Rosaiah to open Brandix Apparel City on Feb. 5

Project to be inaugurated in Vizag will be a boon to cotton and textile industry

Chief Minister also scheduled to lay stone for Coastal Ferro Alloy Unit at Atchutapuram

BIAC venture proposes to provide employment to 25,000 people

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah will inaugurate the Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) at Atchutapuram in Visakhapatnam on February 5.

During a hectic schedule to the port city on February 5 before leaving for New Delhi, the Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Coastal Ferro Alloy Unit in AP Special Economic Zone at Atchutapuram.

In an interaction with senior officials on Sunday after his return from Tirupati, Mr. Rosaiah said that he was sure Brandix project would be a boon to the cotton and textile industry.

He was informed by the officials that BIAC was a 1,000 acre integrated textile and apparel park with all financial and other associated activities, about 50 km. from Visakhapatnam.

Brandix Lanka, which is Sri Lanka’s largest integrated apparel exporter conceived BIAC and manages it. Other global apparel partners from US, Mauritius and UK support the venture. The venture proposes to provide employment for 25,000 people.
Industrialisation drive

A press release from the Chief Minister’s office said, the State Government would go in for a major industrialisation drive with the twin objectives of rapid economic growth and creating significant employment potential. A major programme in this direction with close coordination of top investors, industrialists, Government of India, CII, FICCI and other private players is on the anvil. The new industrial policy will also be revamped to suit this objective and drive of the State Government, the Chief Minister said.

Mr Rosaiah was told that Brandix’s business model encompassed vertical integration and specialisation in key product categories in both ‘woven and knit’ apparel. To achieve its vision, BIAC has created a vertically integrated apparel value chain and to shore up its smooth operation, centralised infrastructure along with common services and facilities were provided at the Park.
Employment

The State Government will go in for a major industrialisation drive with the twin objectives of rapid economic growth and creating significant employment potential, Mr. Rosaiah said.

A major programme in this direction with close coordination from top investors, industrialists, Government of India, CII, FICCI and other private players is on the anvil.

Four more units coming up at Brandix apparel park
Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, July 8

Four more units are being set up in the Brandix apparel park near Atchyuthapuram in Visakhapatnam district by the end of the current financial year, according to Mr Vinu Sudan, Director of Brandix Apparel City.

He told reporters here on Thursday that at present four units were functioning in the park and 5,100 were employed in the units. The number of jobs would double after the completion of the four units. “More importantly, rural women are getting employed in the units. Their skills are getting upgraded. There is a distinct change for the better in their life style,” he said.
He said Brandix had so far invested Rs 200 crore on building up infrastructure in the park and the four functioning units. “The four units under construction are investing roughly Rs. 400 crore and the total investment by the end of the current fiscal would be Rs 800-850 crore," he explained.
In response to a question whether the progress was slow and when the promised 60,000 jobs would be generated in the park, Mr Sudan said 30 units may come up in the next five years in the park, and 60,000 jobs would be a reality by then. “Considering the global recession and the fact that an apparel park had to be built here from the scratch, our progress has been quite remarkable. No other park has achieved the same pace,” he claimed.

He said the State Government had leased Brandix 1,000 acres for the park, of which 250 acres was the non-processing area. Of the rest, 600 acres was set apart for units and the remaining area was used for roads and other requirements.

Mr. Sudan said the Brandix park had been accorded the SEZ status.
