Japan's onsen culture
An onsen (温泉?) is a term for hot springs in the Japanese language, though the term is often used to describe the bathing facilities and inns around the hot springs. A volcanically active country, Japan has thousands of onsen scattered along its length and breadth. Onsen were traditionally used as public bathing places and today play a central role in directing Japanese domestic tourism.
Onsen come in many types and shapes, including outdoor (露天風呂 or 野天風呂, rotenburo or notenburo?) and indoor baths. Baths may be either public run by a municipality or private (内湯, uchiyu?) often run as part of a hotel, ryokan or Bed and Breakfast (民宿, minshuku?).
Onsen are a central feature of Japanese tourism often found out in the countryside but there a number of popular establishments still found within major cities. They are a major tourist attraction drawing Japanese couples, families or company groups who want to get away from the hectic life of the city to relax. Japanese often talk of the virtues of "naked communion" (裸の付き合い, hadaka no tsukiai?)[1] for breaking down barriers and getting to know people in the relaxed homey atmosphere of a ryokan with an attached onsen. Japanese television channels often feature special programs about local onsens.
The presence of an onsen is often indicated on signs and maps by the symbol ♨ or the kanji, 湯 (yu, meaning "hot water"). Sometimes the simpler hiragana character ゆ (yu) is used, to be understandable to younger children.

The springs are mentioned in the Man'yōshū (written c. 759), and according to legend even Prince Shotoku (574-622) used to partake of the waters....

about 7 hours to Kagoshima by Shinkansen(high-speed railway)
then from kagoshima city to Ibusuki, it take about 1 hour half by local train..

Gujo Bon Dance
Despite only having a central core of only 2 to 3 square kilometers and a population of about 20,000 people,
the town of Gujo Hachiman in Gifu Prefecture has one of the most famous Obon Odori festivals in the country.
The festival, started by the lord of Gujo Hachiman Castle over 400 years ago in an attempt
to encourage all the town's citizens to get together regardless of social level or position, has been designated
a Significant Intangible Cultural Folk Asset by the Japanese government.
The festival runs over 31 nights from mid-July until the first weekend in September, but is best known for the 4 nights of the festival
(called Tetsuya) during the August Obon period, with thousands of revelers dancing through the night until sunrise.
No special costume is needed to participate in the dance. Anyone and everyone can and is encouraged to join in.
If you want to look more authentic, buy or rent a light cotton yukata (casual-style kimono) and a pair of geta (wooden sandal-like clogs)
from a local store.

Those photos of women taking a bath are either from official advertisements, or taken after obtaining permission from the facility managers for the photo shoots.
Some themed facilities such as Oedo Onsen Monogatari above, however, partially allow people to take photos in some non-nudity common areas.
And another thing you should know: You can not wear or bring a towel inside bathtubs!! Those women rolling large towels around their bodies are solely for photo-shooting purposes. Everyone must be fully naked and must take away their towels when entering bathtubs (you must wash your body first before entering the tubs). You may not soak towels in the tubs for sanitary reasons.

Located in the unexplored gorge area that can only be reached by the Sho River Gorge sightseeing boat that departs from a point near Shogawa Komaki Dam,

Standing quietly by the dammed lake, it welcomes visitors with two types of hot springs baths - one located inside and the other outside (an open-air bath),

Post ONE video per entry, and break up your entries of photos to about a dozen per entry, and use multiple entries. If you jam a page full of too many photos and videos you defeat your purpose, and people cancel the slow download instead of viewing what you have posted.

I think Tamagawa(玉川） onsen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamagawa_Hot_Spring), Senboku city, Akita is the best onsen for Balneotherapy.
The Japanese did such a onsen treatment and went out to the onsen as a main reason from ancient.

Beppu is one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Japan. The city is blessed by as many as eight different springs, named Beppu, Kannawa, Myoban, Kankaiji, Hamawaki, Kamegawa, Horita and Shibaseki, each featuring public baths and ryokan with bathing facilities. Together they produce more hot spring water than any other resort in the country.
What sets Beppu apart from other onsen resorts is not only its abundance of thermal waters, but also the wide range of bath types that can be enjoyed there. Asides from conventional hot water baths, Beppu offers sand baths, where bathers are buried in naturally heated sand, steam baths that are heated by the steam of a hot spring and mud baths which are basically muddy hot water baths.

A ryokan (旅館?) is a type of traditional Japanese inn that originated in the Edo period (1603–1868), when such inns served travelers along Japan's highways. They typically feature tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata and talk with the owner.[1]
Ryokan are difficult to find in Tokyo and other large cities because many are expensive compared to hotels, and Japanese people increasingly use hotels for urban tourism. Nonetheless, some major cities do have reasonably priced ryokan, with some costing as little as $40 a night. However, ryokan are more typically located in scenic areas, such as in the mountains or by the sea, and tend to be more expensive.

Hottoyuda Station (ほっとゆだ駅) is a railway station located in Nishiwaga, Iwate Prefecture, Japan
This is a unique hot spring located inside Hotto-Yuda Station, JR Kitakami Line. In the bath area, there is a large clock and a traffic light which indicates when the next train is approaching. The light is green 30 to 45 minutes before the next train, yellow 15 to 30 minutes before the next train, and red when it is less than 15 minutes till the train arrives.
Mirabilite, gypsum, and choloride springs: effective for cuts, burns, various skin conditions, etc.
