Emirates Palace cost something like $900 million.
I would say about the same price. It depends if they want everything to be done in gold or not.

Ugh! How hideously wasteful!

And what about the "Ladies' and Childrens' Beach" on Ras Al Akhdhar that has been under redevelopment for several years? It was quite a large project, and a lot of work had been done on it already. Is it just going to be demolished?

Disgusting.

Emirates Palace was $3-4billion, 11aed billion+. This will probably be in the $5-8billion dollar range, 16-20aed billion+. That is speculation mind you, but it seems fair enough based on the Palace's price. Staggering sums far surpassing the Burj Dubai.

In civil construction paternity Greek company is actually Archirodon .. CCC is a Palestinian company but registered in Greece.

I am sure it will be a challenging project and why not.

This is beautiful. I wish the UAE would build more in traditional style like this than all these glass Lego blocks, or at least create traditional "old town centers" and then build the towers around them. Highrises look great in pictures, and form a distance, but they don't make for the friendliest of cities.

^^ I hope not they can build thousand of palace in thousand of island in AD but not close to Emirate Palace which is for public used !

Very true. If you look at the overhead render that Bu Maitha (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/member.php?u=119007) provided, you'll see the road the goes to the middle of the Emirates Palace and everything to the left of that is GONE - so all the green area in that render, will be completely private! Looks like it will be all taken, which is pretty ridiculous, since the Emirates Palace took a lot of beautiful property as well. You'd think AD would build some beautiful park space and more beach, but no...

Ugh! How hideously wasteful!

And what about the "Ladies' and Childrens' Beach" on Ras Al Akhdhar that has been under redevelopment for several years? It was quite a large project, and a lot of work had been done on it already. Is it just going to be demolished?

Disgusting.

Yes, wasteful! And gone. The Ladies club on Al Ras Al Akhdar was "taken" in November. They are dismantling and gutting it now. Kinda sad. Why are they building another two holes plus the Etihad Towers on that part of the peninsula - it's going to be pretty crowded, and with only one way in and out...people that live and stay there will be very inconvenienced every time they have to stop the traffic when the Sheikh wants a loaf of bread .

Yet another public amenity is lost to Abu Dhabi residents.

Again, agreed! But there really isn't that much out there to begin with. I run within Al Ras Al Akhdar, and I love it. No traffic, and quiet. But in a few years, probably no more...

It truly is unfortunate that they are taking all that land. The Ladies Club is being dismantled and gutted as we speak. If you look - it appears that all the land to the left of the Emirates Palace will walled off. So you will not even be able to drive down that way like you can now. Here are some pics of the current progress: I posted them yesterday - but for some reason the post was never approved...? :dunno:

Let's try this again...(read: I have my 10 posts finally )

Yet another public amenity is lost to Abu Dhabi residents.

Very true! While there is not much out there to do on Al Ras Al Akhdar, it is a nice quiet area to run, with a decent breeze off the sea.

Very well said .. in fact I would say we have lost one of the principal areas of beach going ... on the Abu Dhabi island.

Well besides the AD Ladies Club, which is being dismantled and gutted right now, and Emirates Palace there is not an accessible beach over there. But yes, another area lost to development. It appears from the rendering (http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8743/presidentialpalace02.jpg) that Bu Maitha (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/member.php?u=119007) posted they are going to restrict access past the second circle which is the EP's main (public) entrance. That's really too bad.

has anybody living in AD seen visible progress?

They are working on that thing day and night. So much earth has been moved already it's amazing.

It is. Although at this phase all you notice is huge mounts of dirt and sand moving around. They have constructed a bunch of cranes on the site.

Your welcome! I think the completion date was set for sometime 2015 actually. They've recently just recently taken all the scaffolding off the central dome and it looks beautiful. They have also leveled and cleaned up the area in the front of the palace so you can really see what looks to be some decent progress. The construction of some of the perimeter buildings are also in advanced stages. I'll try to post some updated pictures soon.

what about the 3 main buildings on the sea side? are they gonna connect the old palace with the new palace?

Looking at the render which to me appears fairly accurate based on construction thus far, everything beyond the Emirates Palace and Khalidiya Palace Hotel & Residences complex looks to be "connected" via a covered roadway that starts just beyond the old traffic roundabout in front of Emirates Palace. Obviously that will change as the render shows as the roundabout is no longer there - replaced by a 3-way stop with traffic lights, and a small turnaround circle just beyond that intersection.

The scaffolding is just about off the main dome! The dark clouds with the rain we've been having lately really provide a stark contrast to the white palace. I think the 3rd and 4th pictures really capture this.

It looks absolutely gorgeous! Obviously very high quality construction, only the best.

This is the final colour, right? The renders on the first page aren't very clear about that.
I personally would prefer a more sand-like colour because it would accentuate the facades textures.

And I think the bright white will hurt the eyes in the Arabian sun:cripes::cool:

^^ Ok, I still think it's better when the president doesn't suffer from migraine when approaching his office.

Does anyone know what's going to happen with the current presidential palace, on the south tip of that piece of land? Palace for the vice-president :D

If you look at the renders it appears it's going to stay as-is.

^^ Yeah I know, I actually mend the function of the building, since I guess it wont be the presidential palace anymore.

They posted some new renders around the new construction wall going up near Khalidiya Palace. They are mostly close-in aerial shots, but I'll take some pics and post them when I get a chance. Here are some recent pics I took of the palace taken at sunset...
