View Full Version : Which primo and High School did you attend?
ernestombayo7 July 26th, 2009, 06:49 AM As for me,i attended 3 primary schools. We used to stay in Langata so my first primo was Langata barracks, then moved to Langata Junior then to Malezi Preparatory.I had most fun in Malezi. And i got my first Suspension from School in Malezi in class 7 for sneaking out to play bano(marbles), after lunch break.
Damn did i get a thorough beating from my dad!
I went to Highway Secondary for like 2 weeks. And i was having a blast, timing all the best number 23 mathrees in the morning, checking out fly college chics in town. Then my clever Grandad gave my dad a "splendid" idea.I should be whisked away to boarding school.I ended up in St.mary's School Yala in Siaya.
i hated the school during my first year in form 1.The food was bad,and i really hated the fact that 80% of the kids apart from the ones from Nairobi had strong Luo accents! But by the time i cleared i had the best time in my life in that school.I made life long friends till now,and it taught me to appreciate people. And ofcourse i met and interacted with one of the best rugby players in Kenya.Leslie Mangu,Derrick Wamalwa,Lavin Asego,Teddy Omondi who was my cube mate and many others who made it to the Kenyan teams.
So that's my story,whats yours?
desert burner July 26th, 2009, 09:34 AM i attended komor primary in mandera town which is 7 minutes walk to the boarder to the somali side. and i completed 8 years there and joined mandera secondary in form one but only stayed there for the first semester life as horrible because they was massive bullying in those years.
i ran away and joined ruiru high school oh my god life was hell again because i was day school all my life, and damn the weather was harsh, i come from extremely hot place and those days rain all the time in ruiru and freezing at night and no going out for 2 months until mid term and closing:lol: it was really bothering me but i used to jumped from the fence and we caught we used complain vehemently that our home is mandera it takes 10 days going and 10 days coming when they want to suspend us, but when it comes for midterm we the first to go out while we stay nairobi and extend the mid term with i week more and say to go upto mandera:lol: it was really nice experience.
i think i have 1000 experience but is not enough to discuss here. but i can say they some schools that were not suppose to operate like equator its next to tannery in thika. damn the bad smell and also kahawa high i so the boarding girls and boys mixing at the wee hours in men's dormitory it was also unhygiene. but i can not forget ST valentine the ladies were too generous. guyz stand up for st valentine:cheers::applause:

nairoberry December 7th, 2009, 01:06 AM dude i think i remember you
wow!!! small world, aint it?
maasai1 December 25th, 2009, 05:26 PM for me, kairuni pr school (chogoria, meru), kangaru high school (embu) -most memorable days, then kenyatta university. best days were high school days, except for 'monolisation' (i was made to make a 'phone call' using a very smelly shoe!!)
mikeotechi January 9th, 2010, 09:28 PM Am of the Older School: Literally
I trekked for 7 Solid Years to School Barefeet in the muddy and sticky soils of Kakamega
Matioli Primary School
Was boarding School a relief! But not before my feet got drawn on a carton so that the right pair of shoes could be bought for me at the only Bata in Kakamega.
Onto Nakuru High School in the Rift Valley. Even though boys from the same province would naturally flock together;especially to prevent the menacing Monolisation, the best lessons learnt in such environments was appreciating people from environments different from ours. Nakuru High School in the early eighties was a Melting pot of Boys and Girls from all over Kenya, and I do suppose one of the few mixed Boarding Schools.
Then Moi Forces Academy which had an obvious tinge of Eliticism & Class: Not of the Boys in the School, but their backgrounds.

I think Kenyans have come from far. Shoes are things people take for granted.
Kenguy January 10th, 2010, 06:56 AM Schools I attended:
Mt Kenya Academy-where I learnt about life the "soft" way. (primo)
Nyeri High School- where I learnt life's lessons the "hard" way. (Form 1-4)
Makini school- where I did my IB (Form 5 & 6)
That wraps up my primo and high school.

Yap.Kenguy, that's my real indellible world for you.
That from that I have traversed the world from Nairobi to London, from New York,Washington D.C onto Orlando. From Entebbe to Jo'burg,Arusha to Mundri(South Sudan).
For me, its an indication of great human possibilities. When I sit at my laptop in Nairobi and have a Live Chat with Kisumu Ndogo tacked all the way in Kansas City,U.S.A,I just feel great and look forward to achieve great things.
Have you seen a barefeet Primary School child? That was me hardly 3 decades ago.

That's a great Resume Mike, It was great communicating with you. About the technology I hope with landing of the Internet Cables at the Coast more and more Kenyans will be able to access the technology in large numbers and reduced cost.^^

Kinyakankick September 5th, 2012, 11:45 PM Hey i found this thread somewhere in the kenyan archives and thought of reviving it since some of our are new here... I first attended githunguri primary school and damn i hated it because of the dog-like beating. In class 7 i went to st. Paul & thomas academy in maragua and we used to have a lot of hunger for girls since it was only boys. Then i went to kiambu high school, kuhandwa kaa kawa nikiwa mono bt i loved it all the same, it made me grow up.
Sarjent September 6th, 2012, 10:53 AM I changed schools a couple of times. Did my primary edu. at City Primary (1-5)/Kirinyaga township Primary (6-8). Secondary edu. at Kaheti Boys H S (Form 1... couldn't hack the cold weather and many beatings in the name of monolization. This was on hell of an experience i will never forget and wouldn't wish for anyone)/ St. Teresa's Boys HS Nairobi (Form 2-4).
Adm.Adama September 6th, 2012, 09:21 PM Well i was a young boy when i left kenya but i remember the school i attended..
I first started school at St. Shepard's Nursery school somewhere in nairobi(i keenly don't remember the location)
Then My mother got me admitted to St. Hannah's Primary school( best private school i ever attended i stayed there for either 1 or 2 years)
Green Cottage in Kahawa was the last and final school i attended in kenya( my father decided to enroll me here after he had removed me from i believe at the time one of Kenya's best private schools and he put me in a village school the culture shock was too much for me to bear since the teachers would beat me randomly on my hand, butt, legs, face etc.. i had my father come and talk with the teachers to stop abusing me but they continued and my mother was furious for that whole year.. Then i boarded a plane and came to america)
Mistah ILL WILL September 6th, 2012, 09:53 PM For primary school I went to Our Lady of Mercy (South B). Best times of my childhood. Played chobo ngoto which later upgraded to chobo uwa. Closing days were the best because if you had a "Wanted" tag on you ... kwisha kabisa. People would bragg about closing with you.
After primary, my father believed day schools were "the devil" hence I was shipped to the land of Ingokho (Musingu High) with all my stuff packed in a mabati sanduku bought at "machakos airport" .... This was my worst nightmare. I thought I had scocer skillz until I met some form 5 and 6 jamaaz whom I called "omundu strong".
They had legs built for soccer. I therefore gladly took my place in Rugby and Basketball and I was glad coz I was able to hang out with "the us guys". I played rugby for all the years of my High school and we featured twice in the nationals losing to Njoro High on my final year. The food was horrible and bullying was rampant. I got traumatized but I managed to survive till I cleared high school. Drinking cham during drama and music festivals was the norm. The life in Kakamega prepared me for life and I can now boast of being able to adopt to any environment.:cheers::cheers:
Adm.Adama September 6th, 2012, 10:15 PM ^^ Do they have reunions so when you go back to see all of you're classmates and teammates u tell them you become a somebody our here in america...
Kinyakankick September 6th, 2012, 10:25 PM Mzee here in kenya once you are out of high school if you dont meet in the streets of nairobi, then the only chance is heaven or worse in hell
Mistah ILL WILL September 6th, 2012, 10:30 PM Mzee here in kenya once you are out of high school if you dont meet in the streets of nairobi, then the only chance is heaven or worse in hell

Mistah ILL WILL September 7th, 2012, 02:31 AM Right now am just at home changing diapers and trying to keep my lousy job. america is brutal especially once you start expanding the family. Day care ina ni nyorosha with 2 kids.
samounde September 7th, 2012, 09:33 AM I went to many schools. First Lions Nursery School in Section 58, Nakuru. I was meant to go to std. 1 thea but I was taken to Victonell Primary in Milimani estate, Nakuru. Then in std 2-6 (1st term) I went to Mustard Seed School in Kiamunyi estate, Nakuru. Then I was shipped to a boarding school in Gilgil called Gilgil Hills Academy(worst school av ever been to coz of being beaten almost daily from class 6 to class 8) I then went to Alliance High School (best school ever)
sweetmama October 12th, 2012, 10:19 AM Went to at all saints cathedral nursery then to st georges primo. After I was done with primo, i got admitted to ngara high. My mom changed her mind about that and I was quickly shipped to Kamahuha high school without prior knowledge. She bought me a big ugly mabati box and a panga among other things. I was so miserable there...i mean...I was a city kid not used to chotaring my own maji or eating githeri with weavils.
Anyway, i ended up in another school in embu called kiriari secondary. I lasted only 2 terms when i realised it was a labor camp. I ran away and went back home in 2nd term of form 2. To make a long story short, I finished high school in our lady of mercy. I liked it there :)
donddon October 12th, 2012, 11:01 PM Well school started at prisons nursery school in Kerugoya (No my parents were not jailed-I guess it was close to home, they taught at Kerugoya Boys). Went on to Gakoigo primary school Kerugoya from class 1-3. I remember begging my parents to let me go to school without shoes coz the boys I walked with to school did not have them and walked faster. Of course they refused and I ended up hiding them in the morning and picking them up from the bushes in the evening, never lost a pair. :)
From Class 3-8 went to Consolata primary school in Nyeri and on to Kagumo High School.
Statiq October 13th, 2012, 07:50 PM Makupa Kindergarten- Mombasa
Ruaraka Academy(primo)- Nairobi
Upper Hill School- Nairobi
@Adm.Adama St. Hanna's & Green Cottage were two of my schools rival schools back in the day lol
muhana October 13th, 2012, 09:51 PM Loreto Convent Valley Road for twelve years (primary and secondary). :)

Kerugoya Boys was next to my primo (boarding school) and i can remember Gakoigo not exactly neighboring but not so far either.
donddon October 15th, 2012, 06:20 PM Kerugoya Boys was next to my primo (boarding school) and i can remember Gakoigo not exactly neighboring but not so far either.
...Thats why I had to hide my shoes in the morning, I just couldnt walk fast enough with the big boys.
I dont seem to remember a boarding primary neighboring the high school, but this was in 1988 when we left Kerugoya.
Sarjent October 16th, 2012, 09:25 AM ^^
the boarding school came in around 1990
CaspertheDj October 16th, 2012, 11:51 AM Harambee Primary & Highway Sec. - South B (Frog jumps were the order of the day when you were late for school. remember vividly punishment of hugging an acacia tree full of "mathigiriri" for 2 hours... playing golf aka cutting tough grass with a blunt slasher :-(
Rongai October 16th, 2012, 07:15 PM I went to St Francis Xavier nursery school in Packlands.I think they have moved now. Then to City Primary from standard one to three.Catholic Parochial Primary from standard four to eight.Loreto Convent Valley Road for form one and first term of form two. Then my parents decided to enroll me to Kianda High School. apparently i was having too much fun,and not working as hard as my big brother in Strathmore.I preferred Valley Road to Kianda though.Kianda you are just reading ,reading ,reading, no swimming ,tennis or art like in Valley road,my favorite activities. On the flip side Kianda does teach you to be disciplined and serious about life, and makes you dream big,Valley Road is still my favorite.
nairoberry October 18th, 2012, 10:00 PM chogoria jr academy! class 4 - 8 goodtimes!!!
brayo October 18th, 2012, 11:05 PM Brookfield Academy then Alliance High School. Best days of my life!
KaiserSoze October 20th, 2012, 03:01 AM I attended Harambee primary school in the city from class 1 to 5.
My parents then shipped my black ass outta Nai to Kericho Boys boarding primary school from class 6 to 8.
I then went to Kabianga Boys High School (in Kericho again!) from form 1 to 4. I have to say, those were the worst four years of my life! I was homesick 24/7 and I used to keep a calendar where I checked off the days till 'closing day'! Taking those matatus to the bus station on closing day for my ride back to the city were the highlights of my existence.
But looking back now, I'm glad I went there, because I learned how to be self dependent.
Mistah ILL WILL October 20th, 2012, 03:09 AM ^^
Word my man. Boarding life is brutal. Kwanza huko ocha ..... To make it worse kericho !!! I worked for James Finlay's and I know how plotless the town is. Kabianga made you the man you are. Strong bro. Nuff respect.
