I think they will be blowing up the ground there since they have stumbled across a very dense solid. Lektor (a Russian forumer) says they still have to dig 9 meters before actuall construction can start.

its not like im getting sceptical about confed complex, but since a half year they are digging in that mud hole and i guess its about 2 meters deeper now but the last time i saw a skyscraper foundation site, their pit was about 20 meters deep (for a 150m tower).
so the question is what are they doing there?

Rudi, at first it is Complex Federation, not confederation. At second, 20 meters is enough for 5 underground storeys. How deep piles I don't know.

uhh, guys how much to tell. they preparing to blow up very hard limestone plat.

see core of city near. they building this structure of future 5 storeys underground mall 2 years. they blowed up this plat almost half year with many unlucky results.

the massive circle is where the huge shoping cnter, casino, theatres and many more.. huge territory.
from the right, the territory that surounded by the black and white barrier is 300m "Parcel 12" project.. they suppose to begin it in September..

working on foundation for skyscraper is always long work. half of all time of construction.

About month ago I saw renderings of future FC Spartak stadium by TV.

Aquapark is another problem. There was financial shady transaction by developer company. Gazprom's moneys, 1bln roubles (about $32mln) gone to nowhere. Now owner of that company on court. Times changed. Present city building by very serious developers. ENKA, Capital Group, Stroymontage. They build hundreds of buildings over all World. All this projects have 100% of money supporting.

How can you be sure that this time all this money will not dissapear just like Gazprom's money did ? you see ? this is the problem in Russia.. i guees people in Russine will never learn that corruption or other ways of stealing money is not good... and then we asking: "why nobody wants to invest into our counrty?" that's the answer: we never know when to stop and now no one trust us.. it's a fact.

about the renderings you saw on TV. i don't trust it.. cause i saw Spartak's stadium renderings 4 years ago..
i saw reconstruction project of Luzhniki's dome.. because of stupid engineering the grass is not growing.. (not enough sun for the grass).

@HD. Many happenned if getting that fact, so ground is very hard there. They will complete pit on 20 october.
Can I remind you - working on pit always is very long work. Allmost every tall towers spend for it at least year, while CF is only 11 months. btw - it will be one of largest underground part of skyscraper building in the world with parking for over 2300 cars on 60 000 sq. m.

pit is 21 meters deep! and about 100x40 meters! 1 year (pit began in november) is actually fast for such ground. you see pit looks like a quarry.

Winter is not a problem. Construction will not be holded.

Even like Moscow don't have a severe weather conditions. Average January temperature in Moscow is -8 by celsius (somewhere about -3 - -4 by feels like).

Construction Begins on Moscow's Newest Attempt at Europe's Tallest Building

MOSCOW Oct 20, 2004 — Although still only in its infancy, construction has begun on the building that is to be Europe's tallest, a shiny younger brother to the dour Stalinist "Seven Sisters" skyscrapers that dominated Moscow's skyline for a half-century.

The first beam was put in place last week for the building called the "Federation," a mixed residential and office project that will consist of two soaring glass-clad buildings linked to an even taller stiletto-like tower, due for completion in 2007. From an observation deck there, visitors will be able to view a city being transformed by a booming economy and a taste for gigantism.

The taller of the two buildings is to top out at 1,115 feet, 249 feet higher than the continent's current champion Moscow's Triumph Palace apartment high-rise. In western Europe, the tallest building is Frankfurt's 850-foot Commerzbank.

With the two curved-wall buildings sloping away from the central tower, the $315 million complex will "call to mind the sails of a brigantine" ship its developer Mirax-City claims.

The popular weekly magazine Vsyo Yasno came up with a different, though equally gushing analogy: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza jointly holding a spear.

The comparison may reflect Moscow's long penchant for hugely ambitious projects that often go awry, a run of bad luck dating back to at least 1737 when the Tsar's Bell, the world's largest, cracked before it could ever be rung.

In the 1930s, dictator Josef Stalin conceived of what would have been the world's tallest building at the time, a Palace of the Soviets topped by a gargantuan statue of Vladimir Lenin that would have outstripped the Empire State Building by 112 feet.

Moscow's main cathedral was dynamited to make way for this pinnacle of official atheism, but the ground proved to be unstable and the grandiose project was abandoned in favor of a swimming pool which itself was destroyed after the fall of the Soviet Union and the cathedral was rebuilt.

In the 1960s, an entire neighborhood was razed to build the Rossiya Hotel, Europe's largest. It became notorious to visitors for its nightmarishly endless corridors and a seemingly limitless supply of vermin and prostitutes. It is now being prepared for destruction.

The 1,762-foot Ostankino television tower in northern Moscow, the world's tallest free-standing structure when it was built in 1967, was a popular tourist attraction until its image was literally blackened by a 26-hour inferno in 2000.

The city's arguably most successful soaring structures are the famed "Seven Sisters," the Gothic-influenced skyscrapers built in the 1940s and 50s. Although many outsiders find their pointy stone spires and turrets uncomfortably reminiscent of a wicked witch's castle, the look struck a chord with Russians. The Triumph Palace and several other residential high-rises that have sprouted in recent years follow the style closely.

"Federation" will be a comparative shrimp to the world's current tallest building: Taipei 101, at 1,670 feet, is nearly 50 percent higher. But Russians appear to be in the mood to play serious catch-up.

The Moscow building is "our late answer to New York's Twin Towers," Vsyo Yasno commented.

I like complex federation because of its design. It would be the tallest and moats beautiful European skyscraper fore long time. Russian must be very proud of it. I cant stand when CF go above the ground and starts rising.

The first concretes were flooded today to the foundation of a complex "Federation". The huge multilevel building promises to become the tallest building in Europe. The whole height of complex will reach 440 meters.

To the foundation of typical building is pawn a symbolical first stone, while to the foundation of a skyscraper which should rise on territory of the International Business Centre "Moscow-City", have been flooded first whole cubic metre of concrete.

The mixed-use office-recreation complex Federation should become the tallest building not only in Russia, but also in Europe. It will consist of two tower 87 and 57 storeys.

"The best minds of humanity, architects who is projected the tallest buildings over all world including Dubai, - the main architect of Moscow Alexander Kuzmin said. Is a mixed-use complex. At the beginning it was supposed to be simply office buildings. But owners have suggested to make the hotel on the top of tallest tower".


Special capsule with a message has been thrown, before powerful pumps have started flooding concrete to a timbering of the base of a skyscraper. It says that a complex "Federation" - the first grandiose project of XXI century, and expressing a hope, that for descendants there will be nothing unusual as they can surpass the predecessors in all.

The whole area of a complex will have 347 thousand square meters, the whole budget - 500 million us dollars. In the towers there will be offices, apartments, hotel, banks, supermarkets, restaurants and trading galleries. The building, according to builders, will have the highest degree of protection from cataclysm.

"We have cleaned undergound places of parking, therefore any variants with the machines filled by an explosive, basically are impossible. Our buildings are made of a monolith, instead of from metal. A limit of fire resistance of a monolith in 4-5 times more, than have metal. Therefore that accident which has taken place in New York, here is impossible", - the head of the construction company Sergey Polonsky asserts.

The complex "Federation" is already the fourth building of a business centre "Moscow-City". Completely it should be constructed by 2010. The height of the largest building of Russia and Europe will reach 440 m. It will built by Russian, Turkish and American companies. The opening of complex "Federation" is planned for 2007.

Корпорация «Mirax Group» завершила заливку самой большой фундаментной плиты в Европе

3 апреля 2005 года в 13:00 корпорация «Mirax Group» завершила заливку бетонной плиты в основание башни «Федерация». Эта плита стала самой большой в Европе и второй в мире по объему после плиты башни «Тайбэй 101» в Тайване.
Площадь плиты составила 2700 м2, объем - 9500 м3. Для сравнения: используя данный объем бетона, можно построить 15 км бетонной дороги, а если его вытянуть в нить с площадью сечения 0,4 мм2, то она дотянется до Луны (!).
Чтобы обеспечить оптимальное качество выполняемых работ при учете сложной ситуации на московских дорогах, процедура заливки началась в преддверии выходных в ночь с 1 на 2 апреля. При этом она должна была уложиться максимум в 48 часов. Однако, благодаря грамотной организации всей процедуры, помощи службы ГИБДД и активному участию управы Пресненского района Москвы, строителям удалось сократить время заливки на 9 часов. Таким образом, продолжительность процедуры составила 39 часов.
При заливке самой большой фундаментальной бетонной плиты в Европе были задействованы 250 миксеров и 8 бетононасосов, подававшие в котлован модифицированный бетон, состав которого был разработан московским НИИ Железобетона совместно с НИИ Строительной физики по заказу компании «Mirax-Сити».
При проведении бетонных работ применялись оригинальные российские технологии, которые уже были проверены на строительстве таких крупных и известных объектов как: центральное ядро Москва-Сити, стадион Локомотив, Ледовый стадион в Крылатском.

The futuristic, glass-clad Federation Tower will house offices, a hotel and luxury apartments along the Moscow river in a western region of the Russian capital.

Its twin, sail-like towers -- the tallest of which will be 340 meters -- are attached to a central 430-meter stiletto-like spire.

In western Europe, the tallest building is Frankfurt's 260-meter Commerzbank tower.

"The pillars would cut through the plane, and that is all," said Sergei Polonsky, president of Mirax Group, describing the building's resilience to a September 11-style attack.

"Regardless of how many planes hit it, it won't fall down," he said, standing in the shadow of one of the partially completed, reinforced concrete pillars ringing the perimeter of tower B, the smaller of the two.

A recent event saw the official presentation of the big name contractors that will work on the Federation project by Mirax.

They include construction manager Turner Construction, a division of the New York headquartered high-rise construction specialists, structural engineers Thornton-Tomasetti, ThyssenKrupp AG's elevators division and Liebherr, who will be providing cranes.

Mirax have worked on a number of upscale apartment and office projects in Moscow.

Federation Tower is emblematic of the construction boom, which has transformed Moscow's skyline in recent years and filled the city's streets with the rumble of building work.

The skyscraper will form the focal point of the sprawling Moscow City development -- a glass and steel assembly of high-rises-in-the-making, designed as Moscow's answer to Wall Street or the City of London.

The tower will be 420 meters high and the tallest building in Europe.

Sergey Tchoban, from architects Tchoban Voss, said that while it may contrast with Moscow's older buildings, the Federation project would blend in with the capital's eclectic style.

"Moscow is a city of silhouettes ... we hope it will complement and enrich the structure of the city's silhouette," Tchoban said.

But for now it's a silhouette in the making -- tower B is just two floors high and swarming with Turkish and Chinese builders.

So far Mirax Group are not saying how much of the building's office space is taken, but Polonsky was confident that as the biggest building in the capital, they would not need to take out ads in the newspapers.

Сегодня, 2 апреля, состоялась торжественная церемония заливки последнего куба бетона каркаса башни «Запад» делового комплекса «Федерация».

Церемония прошла на уникальной площадке – 63 этаже небоскреба на высоте 240 метров. Более 200 гостей стали свидетелями исторического события. Среди почетных гостей на церемонии присутствовали официальные представители Посольства Турции в России, д-р технических наук Семен Каприелов, академик НИИ Строительной физики Н. И. Карпенко, весь руководящий состав корпорации MIRAX GROUP, партнеры строительства небоскреба и представители фирм – подрядчиков и застройщиков зданий в ММДЦ «Москва-Сити».

«Ровно два года назад состоялась беспрецедентная заливка бетона в основание башни «Запад», - отметил в своей приветственной речи заместитель председателя Правления MIRAX GROUP, руководитель строительства комплекса «Федерация» Артур Александров. - Сегодня мы присутствуем на не менее важном и уникальном событии. Заливка последнего куба бетона каркаса башни «Запад» - доказательство современных достижений в области инновационных разработок бетона и своеобразная выставка достижений строительных технологий и мужества духа людей, которые принимают участие в строительстве».

Руководитель проекта компании Ант Япы по монолитным работам башни «Запад» Аргун Кочулу отметил, что проект «Федерация» стал важен не только для России, но и для Турции, как показатель крепких отношений наших стран.

Председатель Совета директоров корпорации MIRAX GROUP Сергей Полонский, говорил на церемонии о будущем комплекса. Так, к примеру, в июне этого года башня «Запад» будет полностью остеклена, а в марте 2008 года будет готова к запуску первая очередь отеля Hyatt и бассейн на 62 этаже небоскреба, который так же отличается приставкой самый – это будет самый высотный бассейн в мире.

Завершением церемонии стал запуск в небо белых голубей.
