Istanbuls Segemented Garden Tower

Currently under construction is a new tower for the burgeoning Turkish city of Istanbul.

Currently named the Makyol Hotel Project it is located in the heart of the city and will offer expansive views of the river Bosphorus, the design for the tower comes from the drawing boards of architect Emre Arolat, whose work is somewhat prolific in Istanbul. When complete it will stand at 30 storeys, which works out to be approximately 110 metres in height.

Set on an L - Shaped concrete podium base the tower which stands on columns is square in shape and consists of three sections. One side effect of this is that it can be used highlight different uses within the tower.

The segmentation is achieved with the use of large open double height atria which cover two floors at separate heights of the tower. These not only look attractive but add to the residential amenity within the tower by providing relaxing open air spaces for people but also add to the towers green credentials with the feeling of hanging gardens.

Each section also has a different façade scheme, the first, lowest section features small, grid like window casements highlighted by white steel. The middle section is made up of slightly larger casements of irregular size that run in an irregular pattern horizontally again picked out by white steel. The final section features sleek, darkened glazing breaking from the patterns below and is finished with a flat peak featuring a roof garden.

When complete the tower will be home to a hotel with rooms and suites, office spaces, conference rooms, restaurant, bar, health club and a spa just in case anyone runs out of things to do or just wants to relax in somewhere other than the array of gardens.

All being well the tower is expected to be completed by October 2010.

Design is not bad. It will have great views to Bosphorus.

Great design good location I would think more of the condos would be found closer to the high end hotels rather then more of the commercial districts

It looks like a dwarf compare to Sapphire building.

It's a nice development except that I think its location is a little bit strange. If it were closer to the Levent or Sisli clusters, it would be better imho.

Etiler'deki 5 yıldızlı otelin Starwood Hotels & Resorts ile el sıkıştıklarını düzenledikleri basın toplantısı ile açıklayan Makyol İnşaat Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Savaş Çebi, otelin isminin 'Le Meridien İstanbul Etiler' olacağını açıkladı. Anlaşmanın geçerlilik süresi 32 yıl olacak. Yeni bir uluslararası aktörün daha İstanbul'a gelmesinin Türkiye'ye olan inancın somut simgesi olduğunu belirten Çebi, otele 12 farklı otel işletmecisinin talip olduğunu hatırlattı. Bunların 5'inin Türkiye'ye ilk kez girecek olan işletmeciler olduğuna dikkat çeken Çebi, "İstanbul parlıyor. Türkiye, büyüyen ekonomisi ile cazibesini artırıyor. Artık dünyanın en iyileri burada olmayı planlıyor." dedi. Four Seasons, Kempinsky gibi üst segment kategorisinde hizmet veren Starwood Hotels & Resorts, 100'den fazla ülkede binden fazla otel ve tatil köyü işletiyor.

Turizme ağırlık vereceğini açıklayan Makyol üst yöneticisi, turizm yatırımlarının 550 milyon dolara ulaştığını kaydetti. Şirketin Turizm Grup Başkanı Göktuğ Özdemir, bu rakamın 4 yıl içinde 1 milyar doları aşacağını öngördüklerini aktardı. 4,5 milyar dolar yıllık iş hacmine ve 800 milyon dolarlık ciroya sahip şirket yatırımlarını tamamen özkaynaklarından yapıyor. Şu an ise Taksim, Sultanahmet ve Boğaz'da yeni arsa ve işletmeler arıyor. Şirket aynı zamanda Fas, Azerbaycan, Umman, Katar, Cezayir, Irak ve Arnavutluk'taki inşaat çalışmalarını sürdürüyor. Makyol, yurtiçi ve yurtdışında 3 bin kişiyi istihdam ediyor.

Nice building! Now only the trees/plants are still missing. I think this will add much style to the building. Actually I have often seen such visualizations of "green" buildings but rarely any result so far (I can only think of the Hansa Residence Tower in Bangkok).

I think now they start to work for interior of building, such big hotel but good investment since istanbul is growing fastly attracting more tourist and business year by year.
