Let me put it this way. If I had posted a pic of the same section back in the 90's, you would withdraw your statement.

I think footpaths are ideal for densely populated areas (cities, towns etc), even in Europe and the Americas they don't have footpaths next to all freeways/highways esp. in scarcely populated areas. Looking at the picture, that must be a rural area...my two cents

soon those trains would be transformed to modern gauge rail,...speaking of trains, what are the possibilities of seeing bullet trains in kenya in the near time future?

Past Vision 2030: 2040-2050

I kid. If Kenya does get HSR one day hopefully they buy shinkansen.

You can clearly see the signs of an uncaring government in this picture. Just look at the footpath that man is walking on and imagine seeing that in western Europe.

It doesn't look that bad. The roads look upkept, the rail line may need to be upgrade seeing as I bet that train doesn't travel that fast. More than likely it's a rural area, and for a rural area you have to admit it doesn't look that bad.....or maybe we're just seeing the good portion of the roads/rail track. :|

One is a newly rehabilitated section while the other was last worked on during the Moi era. Ironically, a few years ago, the unmarked section used to be the best section of that road.

Its a matter of time for that stretch to be marked as well.

This road is so fine/smooth. You feel the joy of travelling. Things like this take poverty in museums and makes countries progress.

Deliveries are made fast, on time and safer.
The Army or National guard can be deployed fast and easily to interven in remote areas or strategic locations.

The Tourism is survivable and dependent on infrastructures like this and boost local tourism.

This infrastructure is the backbone of Agriculture and rural development.

The list is long.

And you can make love to your girl along this road. :naughty: , trust me, your girl will love it. (It's romantic). Just make sure Lions don't get you, likethe Tanzanian who were making love in the bushes.

Your fears are well founded. Sooner or later some of these roads will need some rehabilitation and that work will go to the likes Hayer Bishan Singh and Sons, and that will spell the death of the roads.

Was not is. It was openend last year after being upgraded to bitumen standards by china wu yi within a period of two years. Quite impressive bearing in mind that we are talking of upgrading 100km+ of road. A kenyan contractor would still be on site.

that is right dhuks, a kenyan contractor would be there stating they have exhausted the funds and they are requesting more funds.i think it was the cowboy contractors era.it has cost kenyans billons of dollars of wasted tax money.

BTW Guys and especially Mods,
I think this thread and the thread [EAK] Highways in Kenya at http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=977882have been mixed up. This thread has many shots that belong on the Highways in Kenya section considering that this is an Urban Kenya thread but has many rural highways on it.

Alternatively, we should have them merged so that we just have one thread on highways and roads under the highways and autobahns section.

Its only in kenya whereby a contractor is given a job, delays it and asks the goverment for more money and he's given ...then at end of it amidst delays ,and high cost ,they do a shody job.Ive been watching construction videos. In developed countries ,get a contract...delay the project even by a day you get hefty fines. No negociations no excuses...ati mvua ilinyesha. Its time we did the same.We dont need ministers and media and people having to babysit the cowboy contractors.Once govt gives out the contract ...the more the contractor delays the more he pays/govt gains.Instead of the other way round

i have had it with the whiners and complainers who just want to rant about everything. its not surprising are johnny come lately(pepe, adama royco etc). on the mombasa section, kisumu ndogo post a PROPOSED project and then they are quick to start questioning it or calling it fake. it is a PROPOSED project you muppets!!!!!!

on the nairobi city gallery, it is more complaining due to flooding. breaking news, WE ALREADY KNOW HOW INEFFECTIVE THE NCC IS. So your ranting help NO ONE.

if you have nothing constructive to say then just dont contribute. i do that alot, instead of talking out of the side of my neck and derail the thread i just stay away from contributing.

this KENYA sub forum did not get to be one of the best on SSC Africa through constant aimless complaining. lets stick to what we do best. outsanding contibutions and civil discussions

if all you want to do is complain and yap on about how bad shit is in kenya then please by all means sod off to mashada forums cuz we cant help you around here

and since this post is about complainers, where the heck is the original mr. negativity ewengai?! we miss you around here dude!!!

Yeesih bwana people have all over the forum have been having good hearted debates while showing the beauty of kenya their are still tons of projects that need to be updated that havent been done so in months so you can start to do that so you can lower the inundated responses that people are posting

Folks,

Just back from a visit to Liboi town, located 18kms from the Somali border, and an important staging post for the KDF. Saw for myself the thriving cross-border trade going on, and the entrepreneurial spirit of a people forgotten by their rulers.

I dont want to describe the Class A road (coded A3) connecting the city of Garissa with Liboi. The A3 is a 556km road linking Thika with Liboi. The 180km section from Garissa to Liboi has now the unenviable distinction of being the only unpaved Class A road in Kenya - no brainer for any Kenyan as to why.

Money was borrowed in 1981 by arap Moi's government to tarmac the road from Thika to Liboi (an astounding sum of KSh 1.7bn, more than enough at the then low prices of everything to finish the road). Check out http://debt.marsgroupkenya.org/?Project=230

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7068/7149379503_c89e406038_b.jpg

Check out the two pics belowhttp://farm8.staticflickr.com/7136/7003287904_320fe5fd17_b.jpg

The entire length of the road is exactly like you are seeing above - a distance of 180kms to Garissa. Vision 2030 indeed!

Is this in Isiolo, Dhuks? Great shot!! So we need it like that all the way to the ET-KE border. And I fight for a similar one for Thika-Mandera, Liboi, Eldoret - Lokichogio, SS-KE Border; long range roads really that can improve connectivity across countries. This will also improve business and income for Kenyans. And with more oil being discovered, the sky is the limit!!

these new roads are a dream to drive on. If they are maintained here forth it would be great.

As for speed seems like on the clear stretches 180 is the norm, most we have hit is 285. In the last 10 years only hit 1 cow

Nice photo and road.Love the greenery that is coming up My only concern is, will Kenya drivers obey the law for intersectios with out traffic lights or cops? Or will those intersections like one seen above (under the overpass) be tunred into a traffic gridlock with drivers fighting for the right of way.
