Haydar Aliyev Cultural Center - Baku, Azerbaijan

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/ganjaganja/1290_rm_baku_001.jpg

Haydar Aliev Cultural Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid, will give a major new venue and landmark building for Baku. Dedicated to the former president of Azerbaijan, the Cultural Centre will house a conference hall, an auditorium, a library, a museum and food and beverage areas. Total build up construction area is 90,071 m2.

The landscape emerges from the ground to merge with the building. This rippling, manifest as earth mounds, fades as it moves away from the main building to radiate like waves. The building itself is also merges into the landscape to become the Cultural Plaza - further blurring the boundary between the building and the ground. These landscape formations also direct the circulation of visitors through the building and Cultural Plaza, where outdoor activities and performances take place.

The Museum faces out into the landscape - participating in the urban fabric of the city developing around the site. Its glass facade is slightly interrupted with the sculptural interplay between the outer skin and the ground. The interior is an extension of the natural topology of the site with the glass façade flooding the Museum in natural light. The ground surface of the Museum begins to fold and merges to the outer skin which allows the new extension to become part of the topography of the site, whilst ramps connect the ground floor with the mezzanine levels above. *

The Conference Hall accommodates 3 auditoriums of different sizes. Its form leans into the Cultural Plaza to create the necessary inclination for the seating.

All three auditoriums and their associated facilities have a direct access to the Plaza. The main entrance is located in the void created by the outer skin being ‘stretched’ between volume of the Museum and the Library tower. A secondary entrance is situated on the north side of the building.

Construction works are held by Dia Holding. Completion pf the building is scheduled to 2010.

Btw: why do you still use Russian surname endings like the one in Aliyev?

Btw: why do you still use Russian surname endings like the one in Aliyev?

We are gradually getting rid of them. Many people changed their surnames in the last few years. The government wants to make this process of changing surnames even an obligation but some people are strictly against it.

It is more than obvious you have some other aims in Azeri-related topics and I have huge doubts that you have ever visited Azerbaijan and even if you did so you must be simply a freak in order to see only negative sides of it. There is no single positive post of those hundreds you left in Azeri-related topics. Isn't it strange? You even tried to humiliate its people and their culture in some other topics... That already says much about your personality!

Don't even try to convince me that you are a usual person who only comments on anything he likes cause I noticed what kind of shit is under your mask a long time ago so leave it to me to clean up the forum.

I know very well that you are trolling in the topics of Azerbaijan in international part of the forum in order to avoid any sanctions and I tried my best until now to explain to you that trolling and leaving non-stop negative comments with political and offensive content is not a good idea. It seems you don't understand this point well so I had to take some further steps. Furthermore, I am responsible or not is not your business. BTW, I'm very glad that the interior of the auditorium is made of wood (or so it seams) which is much better than in renders.

We are gradually getting rid of them. Many people changed their surnames in the last few years. The government wants to make this process of changing surnames even an obligation but some people are strictly against it.

Why are some people opposed to it?

Why are some people opposed to it?
Cause they are used to their current surnames plus they are not so willing to go trough any bureaucatic process in this regard. For instance, I know some families where some people changed their surnames and some still use the old ones.

Thanks
Yeah, I figured there must be cases where in the same family some people changed their name but others didnt.

According to the preliminary version, fire occurred due to non-compliance with fire safety rules during welding operations. The fire did not cause any damage to the inner part. Only 1000 square meters of roof was burned.

The interior is absolutely stunning, but the outside isn't that great. It looks a bit modernist 50s, like something from Brasilia.
