View Full Version : Norway: Fjords and Glaciers

Hi all,

having returned to the unbearable summer heat of Dubai I live on the memories of our trip to Norway. For three weeks my wife, the toddler, a friend of mine and I traveled the southern half of the country with a caravan. It was our second visit, but it will certainly not have been our last trip to this great country with its stunning landscapes!

Here are some images, enjoy! :)

We went all over the "upper southern half" of the country and spent time at places such as Austerdalen, Sognefjord, Leirdalen (Jotunheimen National Park), Geiranger Fjord, Trollstigen, Atlantikvegen, Briksdalen, Kjenndalen, Nigardsbreen (last three are all valleys surrounding the stunning glaciers of Jostedalsbreen National Park).

I tried to enter the route in maps.google, but at some places it suggests the most stupid route you can imagine... I'll work on it, once I get it done I'll post it.

Many lovely pictures, yes, Norway is quite great - along with certain other countries such as Switzerland and a few others it would not be an understatement that Norway qualifies for the finals in "Europes best scenery and nature."

Lofoten also is a world class destination of scenery and nature! There has been talk of starting oil exploitation in the ocean not too far from Lofoten and that should NOT happen - the nature is just too valuable up there!

The pictures remind a bit to Switzerland! . . . (but Norway looks more impressive)

As i can see you were driving all the way . . wasn´t too dificult? did you rent the motor home? if so, how expensive it was?

Hi all,

as promised here is a selection of my pictures from this year's trip to Norway. As my wife was pregnant we took it easy and did not make long hikes to glaciers and the like. But, as you can see, the wild nature of Norway is everywhere around you. Even places which are accessible to our heavy mobile home "truck" do offer solitude... Just park next to a torrential subglacial river, set up a campfire and enjoy the scenery... that's how I sometimes ended up staying up late until three or four in the morning :)

Hope you guys enjoy! It will definitely not be the last time that I visited this wonderful country.

I'm not exactly sure if this is on topic, but it's really great, I saw it today on Fifth Gear.

The Atlantic Road in Norway is one of the most breathtaking stretches of tarmac in the world, joining together tiny islands with a series of spectacular bridges. Looking more like a rollercoaster than a road, its lethal twists make it the perfect place to test a brand new hot hatch from Citroen, the DS3 Racing. Jonny Smith puts the car through its paces as he cuts through the amazing Norwegian scenery.

Hey :)

Thanks for the video! The driving itself might not be very exciting, that stretch of road surely is! I've been there twice, but only drove on it with a mobile home
However, there are many picknick places and rest areas along the atlantic road and both times we've stayed overnight enjoying the spectacular atmosphere. You feel like in the middle of the North Atlantic. Where, in a sense, you actually are :)

Cheers,
Basti
