This is the Diller Scofidio + Renfro's project for the new Museum of Image & Sound (or just MIS) in the Copacana Beach, Rio, that won a competition with other 6 architects studios. Isay Weinfeld, Shigeru Ban and Daniel Libeskind also participated. Click here for see all the proposed projects. (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=929718)

It's design will cause a huge impact in the "great wall" of Art Deco's buildings that dominate the Copacabana's neighborhood. The MIS is dedicate to all Brazilian sound and image story, such as music, movies or even soup operas. The MIS is an old museum, located in 2 small buildings in the Downtown area. This new building will put the 2 collections together.

It's not just about a brand new museum for Rio. The site where the MIS will rise is nowadays a nightclub called "Help!", that is the mecca of the prostitution in the neighborhood. The club will be destroyed next month and the construction will start in 2010.

I don't think this proposed museum, or any structure in Copacabana, should have a height of less than 100 ft. How tall is the Museum of Image and Sound?

Gorgeous design. 9/10
And I just realized this thread has been dormant for one year. Updates?

Construction site

Passei em frente ao MIS semana passada e tive a impressão de que algo estava para acontecer. Havia um grande buraco, um caminhão, o portão lateral aberto... enfim, aí estão as fotos do terreno que tirei com o celular...

Is the Museum of Image and Sound under construction right now? And another thing: How did the Museum of Image and Sound get a site near Copacabana beach for their new building?

Its a shame they didnt pick Libeskinds design, although this one is pretty good too, but then again deconstructivism usually is.

:okay:
