Kayaknya target saya untuk membangun Gatsu bakal terhambat, karena saya mendapatkan kontrak untuk membuat model di kota CALGARY, CANADA... Ngga nyangka ada orang luar yang lihat, tertarik dan mau membayar untuk membuat modelnya di Google Earth. Dia mempunyai 100 gedung yang menunggu dibuatkan modelnya.

Your models is amazing. Really, but If you are not mind can I give some advice to you??
1. Do not use much polygon, better if you use photo texture. It is will reduce file size.
2. Try to use Satellite Imagery texture for the ROOF, It is looks better if we see in Google Earth than if we use sketchup default roof texture.

1. Yep, found that out too. Nicer with more polygons, but better with less.
Harder to texture too, if we have to use photos.
2. Used GE roof for my remake of Stasiun Kota, but it's very blurry, but it's what they want. And I guess it does still look better.
Maybe GE crew will "bawel" about the "gravel roof" texture I found on Google and used for BI Kota building. Hope not though :)

Will use GE imagery for Exim too now...roof from GE aja.

I see some of you often only make the tower, and not the base building.

My building Dasaad Musin was accepted and is in GE, but I noticed that there were "some" errors in it.
So I redid it, and uploaded it, but as it is already "accepted" nothing changes in GE.
I still see the old version in GE.
Anyone know if it just takes time to get updated?

Yes, I often make only the tower. I do this doesn't mean I want to reduce the polygon, but because I don't have the photographs. Those awesome texture was captured from the car, in toll road, and not in traffic jam condition. Of course it was very difficult to get the bottom of the building. Usually they covered by trees, cables, and advertising panels.
I ever walk to get the picture, but I feel not comfortable, because so many people look at me and of course... The Security... May the guess I am a terrorist..

Update matters, just wait about one weeks, usually they will update Indonesia every Thursday.

I have things like that too.
Was in Kota last Saturday, being a "super tourist" with backpack and camera, but I was shooting details, like wall close ups and walls in 3 different segments/shots. Not the average "look at that view!"-photo shoots.
The people were looking at me like "what is that crazy bule tourist doing?"

Maybe the people will understand if there any "Bule" take a picture of their city.
But If a man like me, witch has local face... an ordinary clothes, they will think "What he doing?".. terrorist? thief? rampok? or orang udik yang heran when he saw high rise building in Jakarta.

Hey HMC. I already see your uploads ^^ I think, instead of using a small part of roof texture to be applied on the whole roof, Why don't you use whole texture on the whole roof. Know what I mean? :) By that way, your model will look extremely gorgeous

It's very easy to apply roof texture from satellite imagery. Just "Paint Bucket", "Sample Paint".. Pickup texture in the ground, paint it the roof. Done. It's not more than 5 seconds!
Missaligned problem? Easy. Make sure the bottom of the models is the same with the position of building bottom in the imagery. If you still not accepted, click to "Tell me why its wrong" in your website. You can explain in there.

Please don't misunderstand, I seriously love all of your models, but I have a question related to GE placement criteria, about "misalignment".
Your Plaza EX is very accurate with its textures, but it does not stand on the "footprint" of GE imagery, yet still it is accepted.
That it is accepted is great, because it is beautiful, but what is wrong with the alignment of my Jasa then?
Any suggestions?

Plaza Indonesia? It is different story. It was correct in it's place... But... (i forgot the time because i am not online in PC right now).. Google Earth sift the position of the Satellite Imagery. Thats why almost all building in Thamrin and Sudirman are not correct in its position. And since Ratu Plaza model, my new models based on its new position. Maybe if I have much time, I will revise my old models.
Also for the texture.. my old models used png in small resolution image, but my new model use jpg large resolution. Thats why my new models looks better.
If you still get trouble with your models, you can ask 3dwh forum. The will answer your question. I was did it for my Borobudur and Prambanan model. These models was rejected and they told to me why. I understand, even I give up to fix theme. The model very-very complex.

Like my old house in Belanda can be zoomed in to much more without becoming blurry.

Today I made Manhattan Hotel Tower, and on GE it still looks like a construction site.
Used only pictures from Internet for the textures, malas ke sana. :ohno:
We'll see if they accept it. First try at a skyscraper.

Manhattan Hotel Kuningan sudah dibuat oleh Hafidh. But it have not accept yet by GE. I don't know the problem is.

It said incomplete texturing. First time I uploaded Manhattan, it even had more problems like 'building doesnt exist'. Then I uploaded again several times. but still not accepted. until I gave up with this one.

@HMC good luck with Manhattan, I believe you can do it better than mine. I still newbie when I was making the hotel.

Hari ini saya masih libur dengan "my contract", sy sdh mengirim 4 model. Saatnya kembali ke Jakarta. Cuman bingung foto2 yang saya ambil ngga ada yang perfect. Masalah utama adalah ngga pernah bisa mendapatkan bagian bawahnya gedung. Selalu aja ketutup pohon, mobil, pagar, kabur dsb.. Lagian juga cuman bisa mendapatkan bagian depan doang.
Oh ya pengalaman membuat model diluar negeri.. Enak banget!! Foto udah ok banget!! Kayaknya emang udah niat, foto resolusi tinggi, warna cerah, cuaca bagus, posisi ok, ngga banyak pohon di bagian bawah gedung. Kayaknya foto diambil pada saat musim gugur. Begitu juga dengan satellite imagerinya. Jelas, jarak dekat, dan yang bikin heran... Posisi utara selatannya pas dengan sumbu Axis!! Ngga ada yang miring2 menyesuaikan posisi jalan seperti di Jakarta atau Indonesia. Kayaknya memang tata kotanya Yahoo'd bangets!!

MTA.. Sayang banget ngga phototexture.. Kalo di Google Earth jadi kurang Yahoo'd. MTA Final version...

Your Asuransi Jasa is still have BIG file size. It is will be rejected by GE. Better you check the texture image. Usually I use image size 1000 pixels, in low quality.

me too.. Just finished Menara Jamsostek at 23.00.

Leveling?? This is a routin problem, we must check it in the end of the work. Somethimes our building will sink or float. I always extend the bottom of the building through the ground surface. Sometimes we must make a new ground level (see Bapindo) if the original countour is not like we want and different of height is big.

The easy way?
I copied every little bit of the roof (per "building") from GE.
The problem is that it's not a flat roof, so I cannot just use 1 picture, spread out over the geometry.
I was thinking (that happens sometimes :) ) to maybe texture a flat roof first and then raise the roofs. Will do a test with that when I am done with this one.

do you know the easy way to textured the roof??

Easy..
1. Turn off the terrain in SU. Make a little shape near your roof or the bottom of your roof, copy the texture from the ground.
2. Double click the face of your new texture until only the face selected (without outline).
3. Right click those face. Select Texture - Select Projected (this is the secret). The texture will follow your first texture no matter how the surface is. Can be applied for shape like roof or dooms. easy.. isn't it??

well, the first thing that you do is that when you click the Get
Current View you need to preserve the image that you see in google
earth. i suggest that you create a place mark with the snapshot view.
click Print Screen in the keyboard an insert the image in a Photoshop,
for example.
crop it exactly where the color images is then save it on the computer.


when you now are working in SketchUp and see the Black and white
terrain, double-click it.
right-click and choose "Entity info".
u now see an info window where you can see the pictures that the object
is handling. click on the black and white image.
Click on "Edit" then in the next window that appears click on the
browse-button next to image-name.
Browse yourself to the color-image you earlier on saved in the computer
and voila, u now have the terrain in color.

Have not tried it yet though

If you are rejected, just select option "the texture is like this"..(saya lupa kata-katanya.. intinya seperti itu..). Usually they will accept in next approval session.

Museum replaced? Does Radya also delete his museum? as I know, GE never replace old model as long as the first contributor doesn't delete it, even your model better than him. Example, I was upload Istiqlal.. Then videld also upload 'better' Istiqlal. But GE never replace mine with Videld's.

Really? Ok. It is in one of the "criteria" though.
We'll see, it was fun making it anyway.

Halved the file size :P

Using a more realistic roof, but tiled. Just looks better than GE imagery.

Relax bro.. mine also rejected. I have to upload several times until it approved. Sometimes it take us more time, but the result worth. So far from 8 models just 1 accepted. Looking forward to fix the rest of the models. Especially texturing...

You do not need to revise Stasiun's texture. Just select "the texture is correct" option, and wait. Next week those model will be accepted. Sure.

Many buildings there of interest.
I'd suggest the "new" apartments next to Cawang. They are nice.
And of course the "Chrysler" style building (what's the name? Something Greek)
And, as you are the master of patung (I love your Bundaran HI), go for Pancoran statue...that would be so cool!

Removing power line? I always do that. Not difficult just use STAMP or HEALING. Not only powerline that must be removed, there are also trees, poles, cars, people, advertising panels. I think photoshop is the key to make a building.

^^ Ya ya.. that's what I mean, using PNG is very effective when you making objects such as column, sign etc. What I like from PNG is that it support transparency and it produce less file size rather than 'real' polygon.

That Taman Anggrek only spent me few hours, maybe 2-3 hours. That kind of building is easy to build. Just use same textures for each tower. But TA is very big. I have to make 12 textures for this. But this is easier than Taman Rasuna, the most difficult model to be built, I have to use 23 textures (bcoz they have some 15 towers) :nuts:

On Taman Anggrek, the apartment towers actually has slightly different layout one to the others. But you just can't tell the difference when viewing them from particular (far) distance.

So, to make it easier to build just for viewing it in GE, I believe dochan did a smart method by making all the apartment similar one to another.

This is one of some great 3D models built by dochan.

You said in the comments to my model your file size was too big.
But I couldn't find it in your 3D warehouse.
Maybe we can even make it better together.

I think Dochan made sure he had the differences in the towers.
I used to live in Kedoya and I adore those towers.
They are indeed different.
Some are rotated a bit, but some just have different faces and geometry.
But Dochan's model has that kok. :P
Maybe you are refering to something else that I am missing.

Anyway, you haven't been posting here in a long time i noticed.

Me too, working is really "in the way"...want to model more!
For me, when i get home around 17.00, it's sketchup langsung.
The wife is not too happy with that when she gets home at 18.00 hehehe.
To model something like TA in 3 hours is amazing!
My models take me much longer.
Am now working on the building at the corner where BI Kota is, next to my PT. Skaha.
Already 10 hours, at least. Maybe I am just slow hehehe :booze:

Congratulation for all. Your models are amazing. Many model was accepted. Last time I had updated Bundaran HI, and now its gone. I must revise the terrain and wait until next week. Dochan's Argo Pantes also dissapear. Please check what is 3dwh's comment to those model.

That was true in my case, with Dasaad Musin.
I deleted my old one, as it had lots of Z-problems (don't know why they originally accepted it)

Which one? Mostly, I get from the web. Sometimes not too accurate off course. If the image is not too good, I re-create it with photoshop. Like I did to my tajmahal mosque and wisma dharmala. but, it a bit inconvenient :nuts:

Sometimes I go travel with my motorcycle. Just tell me which building you want to sketch. If I go there I'll get it for you.

BTW, I want to revise the dome of Dian Al-Mahri Mosque, is it possible without taking out from GE?

It rather difficult to sketch. The map is not updated yet. Dunno how to do it :ohno:

Even though the apartments on top of JaCC are interesting , I don't "do" malls out of principle :P
I think they are ruining Jakarta, and they are an eyesore hehehe.

Am having more troubles finding good pictures of things I am building on the net too lately.
Just the front, but then often the angle is too big to make it into a good front side & side walls texture.
Should indeed go out again to shoot some good photos.

Maybe we could have a monthly "Let's Sketchup Jakarta"-Photo shoot Tour" together? :P
Problem is that Jakarta is pretty big, and everyone wants to go somewhere else hehehe.

Agree with you. I just love sketching without any purposes. But Jakarta and Indonesia are too big. Too wasted if everybody build the same building.

Just an idea. It is will be much better if you also make the window leaves.. you can use "make component" and just copy and paste. I thing will be looks live and real, not flat like that.

About the window leaves, that is indeed a good idea.
Although, my hobby has become to keep file size small.
Was thinking it is impossible, as all of them have different angles. But I guess I could do it, it will just take a bit long.
But while typing this, I am thinking "why not?" Will give it a look.

You can speed up your work when you've already found the clue

I used to sketch my model up part by part and then grouped it. In the view menu, I checked "Component Edit> Hide Rest of Model" so I can focused only in one circumstances. That's how I work.

I did the same thing in measurement but I can work faster if I already know the dimension of the building. At least the overal length, width, and height. other detail is not too important.

Placed them on front wall.
Editted original front wall picture with photoshop.
Put in Model.

Took me an hour hehehe.
Gonna take my time to do that for most of the walls.
Maybe not for all. Just outside walls I think, as no one will examine the interiors, I guess.
What do you think?

Moving-moving, one-by-one...takes so much time, while I have so much inspiration for other buildings on Kali Besar :P

Actually I build GI several months ago. But it remain postponed until now. I have finished Menara BCA at that time (Thanks to Videld4 for providing me great shots!).

BTW, this thread has surpassed 700 posts. It's time to move to another thread.

@ HMC : This model is nice, but those lines (especially png) in preview image is bit weird (Eventho lines in GE wont be displayed). I always make sure to uncheck the 'lines' in 'style' menu before hit the upload button. I do this because I don't want my 'secret' to be viewed in public. :P

As for the roof, well, there is an error in my model, from the start.
Malas to fix it, so i just made it like that.

Copy paste is very easy.
1. Select your object
2. Click "Move" toolbar
3. Push "Ctrl" keyboard and move your selected object to the position you desire. It is wil automatically copy and paste in the same time. Release "ctrl" and type the distance if you want.
4. type 3x if you want to copy 3 times or more. This is like "array" in AutoCad.
Easy, isn't it?

If the window like that you only make one component, I think no problem if all windows has same position.
Do you know the "magic" of component?? It is magic!! Sure.
