Anyone draw their own maps of fictional cities, states and countries? I like using Windows Paintbrush and make up "lands of make-believe" Is there a forum on here or someplace on the internet for that?

Actually we have a forum where we design skyscrapers, bridges, and more in our own fictional city.

Check out this forum for more details:

Also, here's the thread of the city map, which was created by the forumer MiCH:

I've done map drawings on paper ever since I was like 6 or so! I don't usually do it on a computer though.

The SSCCity thing is interesting but I'm not sure if I can handle it without good 3D drawing skills!

I don't have any skills and I still got a couple of 9/10s so if you just draw a lot, you'll get the tricks and know how to do a basic tower.

An example of sprawl outside one of the imaginary cities I created about 15 years ago.

(edit: LOL - I've already posted about how I used to draw maps in this thread and I forgot I even posted in this thread before! Sorry for the repeat of info)

It's times like these where I wish I had a scanner. :(

Drawing maps was really my original hobby ever since I was 5 or 6. They started off as simple street maps which were soon modelled after the Rand McNally system (the only book that I owned in those days :( ) but later on (especially after discovering these forums) they became boosted with additional features such as more points of interest located, transit, zoning, and even 3D skylines - though I don't do it much anymore.

Nice maps from all of you guys!

Hmm....maybe I should do a city map on the comp - anyone think it's worth a try?

All the time, and have been doing so for years. I eventually turned a few cities into a country, actually an island, composed of six states or provinces and planned all the cities and regions, but kept changing them, so I never settled on one plan. As soon as I finished one map, I would have a new idea and scrap it. I used to like to build these imaginary cities using SimCity (2k, 3k and eventually 4k), but they always looked better in my mind. I even got to the point where I made up fictional histories of these places. I guess you could say I got carried away, but it occupied my mind.

Very interesting. I used to think I was the only one who did this...what Agent Orange said.

Guilty. Been at it since I was a small child. Xing500 that is pretty cool.

LOL - I found only the other day my largest ever creation - it spans 10 A1 sheets of paper and is comparable in size to say London - with thousands of roads (actual drawn - not lines). I actually had problems in that once I finished the map I wanted to expand it - so I ended up creating a land reclaimation in size of Singapore jutting out into the lake I had created for it.

The map had more urban stations than Tokyo. No less than 20 individual light rail schemes: old steam train like rides through the hills; monorail going up and down the lakefront; high density grade seperated trams, no less than 20 mainline rail termini into the city core! High Speed Rail lines that would make the entire world jealous and of course everything from rivers, shopping malls, industrial areas, railway crossing, waste disposal, etc were ALL shown - took me weeks to make and its a treasure in its own right :)

This is one of my drawings from when I was around 6 :)

I draw maps of cities, particularly made up ones. I can draw maps of anything really but they're a bit boring. Infact I think Ill draw one now.
