View Full Version : 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 or 7x7??
RobinHood March 10th, 2004, 07:30 PM I'm a little confused. Do you really need to zone 4x4 squares of zones in order to get tall buildings??
I always zone 7x7, if you count the roads, so it's a road, 7 squares of zoned land and then another road. How do you guys do it??
LSyd March 10th, 2004, 07:51 PM hold CTRL while you're zoning.
I've noticed that some of the buildings will build on land bigger than their minimum, and when they do, they put fountains and other decorations, or what looks like parking lots, on the extra space.
it can be cool looking.

RobinHood March 10th, 2004, 08:13 PM Um, that's not my question :p
LSyd March 10th, 2004, 08:23 PM i answered your question (i think.)
the biggest buildings won't zone on anything less than a 4x4.
ex. Lind Entertainment, Waco Co., Ong Condos.

RobinHood March 10th, 2004, 09:28 PM Oh I see what you mean now. So bigger than 4x4 is alright?? Cause I had a couple pretty tall buildings..
London™ March 11th, 2004, 03:04 AM I usually zone 4*5 lots so I can place a subway station and a bus stop right beside skyscrapers. It gives you shorten commute time and less traffic. :D

I do exactly the same thing, not only will you get a shorter commute time but the areas around the station will develop faster. Sometimes I'll even add a few parks, the open paved area is perfect, just to spice things up a bit.
RobinHood March 11th, 2004, 03:54 PM I do 7 x 7 and leave a space open. Maybe I should change that to leaving 3 spaces open.
jp7358 March 11th, 2004, 04:04 PM Do you put anyhting in the open space?
RobinHood March 11th, 2004, 06:49 PM well I leave room for a subway station/bus stop/open paved area/whatever
jp7358 March 11th, 2004, 06:51 PM Yeah that'll work, a few spaces would be a good idea.
LSyd March 11th, 2004, 07:50 PM oh, for block sizes? I usually do them wide one way, so that the grid will have access for the individual zones in that block.
so width usually ranges from 5-8, so I can put in a park or school and transit buildings.
of course, this changes with buildings like the University of Country Club.

Fabio March 14th, 2004, 08:28 AM when I want the really big talls to show up, first I make the land area very expensive and then I zone 4x4, because untill now I noted that it is much easier to the giant ones to appear on 4x4.
:okay:
gundamdude July 27th, 2004, 10:53 PM I normaly do 4x4 and I sometimes do 5x5.
Vote for Bush 04!!!!
DuskTrooper July 28th, 2004, 01:45 AM There ARE NO 7x7 buildings ( growable ) b/c the game has a limit for 6x6.
Style™ July 28th, 2004, 01:52 AM 6x6 for me usually. If I go larger I put it in around a wider road. :)
BuffCity July 19th, 2005, 07:34 AM but do all buildings need a street on every side of them? even the highest density ones? I don't think so.
I still go with blocks of 4x8, 4x10, 4x12 they always fill and look the most realistic.

Do you hold CTL while zoning like that? or do you do 2 or 3 4x4 blocks side by side?
BuffCity July 20th, 2005, 07:38 PM no hotkeys for me...I usually build tighter blocks toward the city center...then stick with the standard 4x(10,12) blocks in the residential areas (med/low)
Indyman July 23rd, 2005, 09:49 PM 5x5 in the downtown so you can have stage eights come up and have room to but a subway or bus station.
