Tara River/Canyon (Montenegro)

The Tara River (Serbian: Ријека Тара / Rijeka Tara; Tr. Riyeka Tara) emerges from the confluence of the Opasnica and Veruša Rivers in the Prokletije mountain, part of Dinaric Alps of Montenegro. The total length is 144 km, of which 110 km are in Montenegro, while the final 34 km are in Bosnia and Herzegovina along which form the border between the two countries in several places. The Tara flow from south to north - north-west and converges with the Piva River at the Bosnia and Herzegovina (Serbian Repulik) and Montenegro border between the villages of Šćepan Polje (Montenegro) and Hum (Bosnia and Herzegovina) to form the Drina river.

The Tara River cuts the Tara River Gorge, the deepest canyon in Montenegro and Europe and second deepest in the world after Grand Canyon, at 78 kilometers in length and 1,300 meters at its deepest. The canyon is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a part of Durmitor national park.

Ouimet Canyon, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada: (N 48.79417 and W -88.66694)

(Indian Head Rock Formation can be seen in some of the photos)

From http://www.ontarioparks.com/english/ouim.html

"This sheer-walled canyon shelters rare Arctic-alpine plants along its boulder laden floor, where snow often persists until late spring. From two platforms and a network of boardwalks and trails, view this spectacular gorge and feel the air rising from the depths."

From wiki

"The canyon is believed to have formed when a diabase sill dating from a billion years earlier was split open, either by the weight of advancing glaciers or the large volumes of water released during their retreat. Erosion by wind and rain continued the formation of the canyon. A large rock column known as the Indian Head can be seen from one of the viewing areas."

from cappernomads

"The plant communities of Ouimet Canyon change from boreal or northern forest on the canyon rim to sub-artic tundra on the canyon floor. You would have to travel over 1,000km north to the shores of the Hudson Bay to find some of the plants that live on canyon floor. The high walls and narrow width of the crevasse shade and cool the lower slopes and bottom. Hence, tiny mosses, lichens and liverworts thrive and below these plants the ice that is formed in winter seldom melts. A fascinating place."

Ruinaulta - Rheinschlucht
Ruinaulta is a canyon on the Vorderrhein just upstream of its confluence with the Hinter Rhine at Reichenau, Eastern Switzerland. It is sometimes known as the Rhine Canyon, or Swiss Grand Canyon (more for its size than any resemblance to the Grand Canyon). Protected by cliffs several hundred metres high, the area is forested and a haven for wildlife. It is easily accessible only by the Ruinaulta line of Rhaetian Railways, and is a popular location for rafting.

Fantastic.
But, where is some water?

Glaciers were here, when the Great Lakes were one "superglacial" lake. But now, due to climate change for a million years, they have disappeared.

Brice Canyon, Arizona

You know that the Brice Canyon is actually not a canyon, even it is called one. Anyway a wonderful place.
