hello! well i have decided to make a thread for my upcoming models.



the first one to be posted is my latest version of the burj al arab. i added the pieces to connect the helipad to the tower and i also widened the sides of it as well.

Thank you for figuring out it wasn't a lost cause, and for coming up with the basic pattern arrangement... I am working on making the central tower structure, and perhaps modifying the current outer parts to be printed on transparency paper like Rei's Tokyo Tower model... *We'll see how that turns out*

if you are asking what is different, the tiers were expanded 110% horizontally and 90% of 90% of 90% of 90% vertically. the base was reduced by 10% on all sides as well. the base was modified and it is now of part of the master plan of downtown burj dubai.

Am currently making it right now lol!

So here is how it should go:

the base on should be in the position to have the design on the ground "looking" straight at you. Us the direction "up" as the top of it. The smaller teirs should be decending to the top of the page. The highest teirs should be heading toward the bottom left. The middle tiers should be going toward the bottom right. At the top where you put the cylinder on, this should face to the top right. I will post pictures late tonight or early tomorrow so stay posted.

so i found out that the small buildings at the bottom had the sides too long so i reposted them.

ok i finished it and it looks great my damn glue though turned some of it pink unfortunately but other than that it is better than any other burj dubai ive made.

the fourth part to the bottom of the structure is optional. you can cut it out and paste it over the inside part of the crescents and make in angle down from the roof of the plaza to the ground. leave enough space to put the tower onto its footprint!

the top fins should be doubled, thats why i posted 16 fins. it should make 8. follow the stripe up the tower and place the fins there and connect them to the spire at the top as well.

on the sides you notice long white boxes. cut thee out and put in the boxes from the inside so it sinks in there.

oh yes! i measured from the bottom just to the top of part 6 and it cleared the height of the burj by about 3 inches, and that was without the top structure!

so what about the space needle

im going to start it tonight but the rest of the week is booked up so i wouldnt expect it for a couple weeks. but i will make it dont worry!

to give an example of how small it will be, take a look at your lego space needle and cut it into thirds. the 1:1700 version will be as tall as the top part of the space needle, from the top of the grey tubes to the top of the spire!

ok so i plan on posting the space needle by next tuesday or wednesday (sorry, just gotta wait!). i will use the helipad peices from the burj al arab and modify them to make the space needle. the top is changed sometimes for sporting events and such so i will give the option to have a different top on it! and i will make the spire two different ways because they make it into a giant christmas tree during the holidays.

Well I am at my dads and no computer so the project is on hold until Tuesday. But coming along well!

I am making the Nakheel Tower and the black plaza building sides are all out of whack, but somehow the white one doesn't need the last small piece, just move the two curved ones together and it should work. The damned tip of the razor just snaped off so it is hard to cut now, but I have found that you must need to put the "holes" in before securing the cylinders together and the top as well. But other than that the finished one should be 22 inches;)

I am definately not geting a flu shot, EVER! not after what I've read recently on what they put in those things (mercury and a type of detergent are among some of them). To make matters worse, my state doesn't regulate the amount of mercury in anything, so we probably have the highest quantities of it in our shots. On the other hand, if the swine flu gets to be as bad as they predict, then I would get the nasal vaccine (just a spray into the nose, no injections).

the observation deck should have part 1 facing down, part two on top of part one (try to have it hang over the edge a little bit), and part tree should be made into a small cone and put on top of part two (black oultline facing up). the smaller circle piece shold be placed on top of part three and the antenna should follow. any other questions just ask:)

i also want to add that that piece that is triangular-like goes towards the bottom. it was added in the 90's as another restaurant. if you want to make the long white pieces look more realistic then cut out the holes.

assemble with the green thing at th bottom first, then the smaller elevator core, then lower estaurant, then bigger elevator core, then the sides, then the observation deck pieces.

hold up i just fixed the diagram again. that damn lower restaurant is hard to make the right size.

It is actually only about 10cm tall when completedxD! And to think that we over here in Seattle were taught at a young age to think it was tall!

Anyways I am going to start with only building skyscrapers from Seattle. I might make rainier plaza today and please do not ask what model I am making or how long it will take to make it, I will decide all of that and it gets me aggravated when people pull that sh*t!!! So yes I don't mind SUGGESTIONS, but remember I am only doing Seattle at the moment! i will try to get through the smith tower, 2 union square, columbia center, rainier plaza, seattle municipal tower, WaMu tower, fifth and columbia, chase center, 505 madison, heron tower, and pagoda tower.

Cool! Looks actually a little better than mine!

This may be confusing but I will try to explain the building process.

1) start by making the green gift shop and elevator lobby at the bottom.
2) make the first elevator core (the small black bar)
3) make the lower restaurant. It is smart to put a needle through the middle of it to support the next piece.
4) assemble the larger elevator core and slip one end into the needle.
5) add the side supports of the structure (3 white strips). If you want to, cut out the bottom holes to make a more realistic appearence. It is best to see a picture of the actual structure on this part.
6) assemble observation and revolving restaurant in this order:
A)make part 1 and face the colored side down. Glue tops of the white supports and the core to it.
B)part 2 should be placed on top of part 1. Make sure it hangs over part 1 evenly on all sides.
C)assemble part 3 into a small cone by cutting a slit in the top and "rolling" it over the glue tab. Place this on top of part 2, again letting part 2 hang over the edges evenly on all sides.
D) make the top cap and put it on top of part 3 on the circle.
E) cut and fold the aircraft beacon and put it on top of the cap.

You now have the space needle!!

And btw, quang did you get my message? I sent it in Chinese via my iPod translator.

One year ago I had no idea this place existed, I hadnt made a model in 8 months, and my life was pretty boring. Until the night of May 23rd, 2009. I google searched "paper model skyscrapers" and wouldn't ya know, one of Rei's gems was the first result in images. I clicked on it to be directed to Dequals first skyscraper paper model database and i immediately started to save and print every single model on that list. I went back to google to see if there was more, and then i came across Rei's thread, here on ssc. Ever since that moment i have been posting and making models.

a lot has changed since then as you can see. i am now a moderator, a major paper model boom took place and then subsided, and i have a city with exactly 300 buildings. i also have over 2,000 posts, many friends, and a great reputation. yes, i did start right before the major boom, and today it looks like that has declined very rapidly. the three heavy hitters, STR, Rei, and jw117 (you all remember them, right?) are now gone from this hoby, two of them dont even post on this website anymore, and rei drops in from time to time, but they were the trailblazers. today, the major players here are undoubtedly lions and ausie, and we have half a dozen more modelers that make great additions to our cities.

i would like to take this time out and thank evey single person here for showing great hospitality towards me and others. thank you guys so much! and i would also like to thank the modelers that made my city possible, especially you Rei. if it wasnt for you, the boom wouldnt of ever taken place, and i would not be here posting right now. who knows, i probably would have never found this site, and i would have never gottn to job shadow an architect and a contractor (a month or two ago someone in the seattle section helped me). this site has braught so much good to all of us and it is all because of he people we have here. thank all of you again so much!

one year has past and gone, but i will definately be here for many more to come. Cheers to the scale models section, club forums, and the whole ssc!
