There are about eight Durga Pujas in New Jersey that I know. This year they all are gearing up for celebration and seat has to be booked in advance by web connection. Some of them attracts so many Indians that township fire department had to intervene. Our neighborhood puja in Plainfield is over 25 years old . I have seen some mixed American-Indian family also participating regularly. But contribution is going up every year just like Kolkata! These pujas are held in township high school and about 3000 people participates. This year we are having singers , guiterist and a drama group from Kolkata. A New York based Indian dance team will also participate consisting of mostly NRI children. Bottom line --first and second generation bangalees are still maintaining there Durga puja tradition so far away from home land! Long live this tradition !:)

Mahindra's Brazilian Feat

Indian utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra just got a shot in the arm when one of its Scorpio pick-ups did the unthinkable - take third place in the production category of the tough Rally dos Sertoes in Brazil, racing against the might of the Mitsubishis, Fords and Chevrolets.

No idea, but might be that he/she would be just out or vehicle break down.. There were couple of policemen talking to someone just by the road side.. so may be that police had pulled him up... by the time I came back it was not there.. so later looks to be the possible reason

Indian themed clothing is quite fashionable out there, saw a pretty good number of Brazilian girls wearing Indian style earrings and bangles... even some wearing bindis!

This whole Indian fad is cos of a telenovella called Caminho das Indias which was ridiculously popular out there (it finished its run in September)... it had its own official magazine and even other tv shows seemed to be dedicated to discussing it

It really popularised Indian culture in Brazil and had much better production values than any of the crap that is shown on Star or Zee etc! Shot on location in Rajasthan and Brazil

Most of the dialogue is Portuguese, but some Hindi words and phrases are included, so a lot of Brazilians know how to say "Theek Hai", "Achha" and various others... but because to the grandma of the family in the show.. "Arre Baba!" has become a bit of a catchphrase out there!

You forgot to mention that this metro interchange station in singapore is named Dhobighaut because in olden days during the british colonial times the area was used by lot of washermen.

Irony is striking because it is named Dhobighaut station but it is among the most modern and funkiest metro interchanges and this photo itself is next to a travelator.

It is anticipated that soaring health costs in the US coupled with a reform in US healthcare policy will drive an increasing number of Americans to look outside the US for healthcare. The Cayman Islands, just an hour or so flight away from Miami, is perfectly poised geographically to embrace the concept of medical tourism. World renowned cardiologist Dr. Devi Shetty’s proposed Narayana Cayman University Medical Center is set to assist the Islands in developing medical tourism as a crucial third leg to its beleaguered economy. Business Editor Lindsey Turnbull reports.

The food in Saravana Bhavan in Decatur, GA was not as good as the ones in Chennai. But still, enjoyed it.

Of course, food is pricey (expected), and, as a student, I'm on a very tight budget.

It hasn't expanded to such a great extent within India. Chennai, Kanchipuram, Vellore and Delhi. None in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune.

Although their global presence is well established.

Sorry for going OT, but here is their complete list of restaurants:

Shetty hospital breaks ground

Dr. Devi Shetty, his partners and local politicians broke ground at the new medical tourism centre on Monday to mark the start of construction at the East End site.

Before an audience of hundreds of invited guests, Dr. Shetty gave an overview of what he expected his proposed lower-cost, high quality hospital in Grand Cayman to deliver, saying his aim was for the facility not to be known as the cheapest hospital, but as the “safest hospital in this part of the world”.
