A great skyline! And the city itself seems rather nice. Iīve never been there but maybe I should visit it sometime... Anyway, more pics please! :) Raddie March 16th, 2004, 04:13 PM There's lots of construction in Rotterdam at the moment, and the best is yet to come :) Check out the Rotterdam update thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85632 giergel April 10th, 2004, 09:37 PM I don't like Rotterdam, it has all this cheap quickbuilded building, it's all high but it also has to be beautiful. That's what missing in Holland, they only think big. They should think much further then that. I prefer Brussel, they have all WOW building and they are also building more high building so for Brussels, the BEST is yet to come! Elmo April 10th, 2004, 09:45 PM I don't like Rotterdam, it has all this cheap quickbuilded building, it's all high but it also has to be beautiful. I prefer Brussel, they have all WOW building and they are also building more high building so for Brussels, the BEST is yet to come! The only posts of Giergel I've seen so far on this forum, is when he bashes Rotterdam with lots of crap! Have you arguments that proves your statement ("all this cheap quickbuilded building")?? I agree not al highrises in Rotterdam are among the best ever built, but the same goes for Brussels that have loads of ugly highrises. Dziki REX April 11th, 2004, 01:54 PM Really nice. Looks like big American city. If there would be any proposal of 200+ in near future it would be only better. knolleke April 11th, 2004, 03:52 PM i think rotterdam looks like those citys in noth america and canada en brussels and amsterdam are more european citys vinman April 12th, 2004, 12:46 PM Rotterdam is one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in Europe Raddie April 29th, 2004, 10:30 AM Yet another great pic by Marin : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/3102/70Onderonsje_24042004.jpg View from Compagnie construction site, also by Marin http://home.planet.nl/~lesch003/2Compagnie_20042004.jpg TYW May 1st, 2004, 04:48 PM building not tall but still look great!! im_from_zw038 May 2nd, 2004, 01:38 PM THIS PICTURE IS BREATHTAKING IT BEATS A LOT OF AMERICAN CITIES I CAn TELL!!! http://www.oranga.com/pics2/p200404087448-3000b.jpg Kingsken May 2nd, 2004, 09:04 PM Holy Macaroni! that really is a great skyline! :eek2: One of the finest european skylines, only need some more hight, than it should be perfect! @im_from_zw038: I don't think it beats any real big American city giergel May 2nd, 2004, 10:55 PM I agree, It's a good skyline but it will never beat the American skylines. AMS guy August 3rd, 2004, 04:31 PM Rotterdam rocks  and will rock even more when they build the new scraper on the location of Luxor Theater. The building, which seems 2 b on hold right now, will be R'dam tallest. Then the panorama of the city will look really amazing. Right, guyz? My opinion is that Rotterdam looks much better seen from the streets in the centre of the city. Then you see many interesting details of modern architecture and the high quality of the buildings. mlm August 10th, 2004, 02:01 AM I visited Rotterdam lately and it's a lovely city:) You'll find my photos in this thread (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=1917714). Raddie August 10th, 2004, 11:20 AM Damn, you are one fantastic photographer! Rotterdam and Dutch is like Istanbul and Asimov. Please let people be proud of their city. You don't have to look if you don't want to! Saentown October 1st, 2004, 03:45 PM The roads are good! I'm not gonna say the roads in Belgium are better than the Dutch roads, I think they are even. But let's stop the crap about the roads. To be honnest: I think Brussels sucks(I really really think my own capitol sucks) not the centre of the city, cause that still is nice. Just look at the ugly skyline. But still there are some good buildings like the madou plaza, the galaxy towers, the zuidertoren and the new martini tower, all the rest is ugly, old and ugly. Roterdam is like about 1000 times better. To Elmo:I think the reason because you almost bounce of the road are the springs of your car :) Hahaha You'ree joking. By the way, have also a house in Belgium. But after the French and the Swiss, Holland have the best roads in Europe. Although I think you could easily convince people that this picture has been taken in Pyong Yang: http://img126.exs.cx/img126/2884/1358.jpg A bit depressing, i.m.o. Rotterdam always looks the best when the sun shines. Petr December 17th, 2004, 12:48 AM Seems Rotterdam has one of the most impressive skylines in Europe! For sure It has good photographers. ;) markus1234 December 18th, 2004, 06:17 PM great photos !,wonderful architecture !,but (i'm sorry ...) there is no "real" skylyne... look at this ,maybe you will understand what i mean.. http://mitglied.lycos.de/hotttt/rot.jpg (rotterdam needs 3-5 140m+ highrises and 1-2 180+m buildings ,then you can call it a skyline) Raddie December 18th, 2004, 09:33 PM Well, then we come down again to a discussion which has already been done a thousand times here. I think we all agree Rotterdam needs more tall towers, but on the other side the skyline is pretty big and is citywide. Boschdijk December 19th, 2004, 11:29 AM Rotterdam has already an overall density, something what in my mind is very important to a city. Now Rotterdam is ready for the next step supertall skyscrapers! If you have just one supertall tower and no density it all the would be dwarfed and that offcourse, is not what we want. Raddie December 20th, 2004, 08:16 PM Very cool pictures of the city centre here http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=160474 Raddie December 20th, 2004, 11:30 PM The Coolsingel is a nice urban street with a lot of towers around it, I don't really agree it should be a lively boulevard with lots of things to do. It's just one of the main roads in Rotterdam but I don't think it would be a really cosy place for cafes with all the noise of the cars and trams. Sure, Rotterdam needs more 'horeca' but I don't think it really should be around the Coolsingel. On static pictures such streets may look boring but in real life with all the passing cars and trams I don't have the idea it should be anything else. Such streets are the charm of citylife for me, and if I want to drink a beer or go shopping I'd rather do it in a bit more quiet environment (which is actually one of the pros of Rotterdam, wide shopping streets). Most of the towers look like commieblocks. Even the brand new ones. The city needs more quality instead of quantity. Raddie December 30th, 2004, 06:34 PM I understand your point. It's probably because most of the towers are residential which are usually more conservative than office towers. Raddie December 30th, 2004, 09:15 PM I said usually. And more conservative doesn't mean it isn't quality. Tony Montana January 15th, 2005, 10:30 PM I am not a big fan of Rotterdams Skyline. Most of the towers look like commieblocks. Even the brand new ones. The city needs more quality instead of quantity. Quality? Many people only like buildings dat look expensive (with big reflecting windows). Those people usealy don't like the skyline of Rotterdam. You have to look longer to this skyline to get used to it. And after a while you see this skyline is realy different from other cities and most of the times less cheap just because the lack of big reflecting buildings. Also, there are a lot of beautiful 1950's/functionalist buildings in Rotterdam, for example around that famous cafe with the North Korean art (the name escapes me). And I have to say each time I was more impressed. I espacially liked that big, white suspension bridge I dont know its name-very impressive. I drive through whole Netherlands manny times and I love it. I like architecture and technology. I thing Dutch are technolocigaly most advanced nation in Europe. Higways are also very good but Germans ARE better. But looking to cities I think Dutch are most interesting. I like your big-wide windows on solo houses-so strange. Anyway I was "arguing" with my friend, some day. Cause I was claiming Rotterdam is the biggest port in Europe and he said I must be crazy, that Rotterdam is like 5th 0r 6th and that Hamburg is by far biggest port. So you tell me who was right. Cause I think for some time Rotterdam was even biggest in the world. Cheers! renco December 11th, 2006, 09:24 AM ^^ I don't have any data but you're right.Rotterdam's the biggest port in the world. Raddie December 11th, 2006, 07:08 PM Rotterdam is by far the biggest port of Europe, it used to be the biggest in the world too but it has been surpassed by Shanghai a few years ago. |
