Superbowls don't really showcase cities. I mean, its not a city-centric event these days. Look at Houston. But its cool nonetheless. Its good for Florida's cities, JAX then Miami. An Olympics, now that would be something.

Yes Vanman, I 'm guessing what he means is MIAMI is in its way to matching or even Doubling in 4 years the amount of High-Rise Condos in a Downtown area, and I work and live here in Miami, and to tell you the truth , its going to happen, Because the Condos here are already sold out even before construction begins. ITS AMAZING !!!

ChuckScraperMiami#1

According to the Latest FLORIDA TREND MAG., MIAMI is the CITY to have over 5,000 CONDOS Available, Added over the Next 2 years ONLY. NOT counting the TOWERS planned After SuperBowl 2007, wow!

The same thing is happening up here in Vancouver. literally thousands of units are being pre sold well before construction. The concord pacific development of False Creek will add a total of 15, 000 units downtown which was originaly thought to take up to 20 years to build but now will take less than ten because of ridiculous demand.New cranes are going up everywhere, even in the suburbs, where thousands more high rise units are either under construction or approved.

ChuckScraperMiami#1
September 21st, 2004, 04:53 AM
VanMan, :) ITS AMAZING !!, theres Construction starting in many parts of the City of Miami, Pounding noises, drilling and hammering noises from sunrise to sunset, and I know theres going to be about 25 TOWER CRANES rising all over the city by this time next year, and thats only in the City of Miami alone. ITS Exciting to see so many people at work, and the Traffic is congestic of the workers going to work. I-95 is always crowded with Trucks delivering material to the construction sites.I see 8 ( eight )-500 foot PLUS CONDO TOWERS going up just next year alone , just in the City of Miami.

' SKYSCRAPERS TO DOMINATE RIVER ENTRY TO DOWNTOWN MIAMI ', Thats the Headline on top of PAGE 18 of the ' MIAMI TODAY ', ( September, 23 rd. Issue ), In 2005 , DOWNTOWN MIAMI WILL BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION, Like NEVER BEFORE, The Entire Area Will be FULL of Construction Cranes And Traffic will be a Disaster with Trucks Blocking Traffic next to the Tower sites. BUT when all is done, MIAMI will be a Changed New looking CITY !!! THE DDA Statistics Estimate the Figures at 2,721 condo units, 450 rental units, 300 condo-hotel units, 236,503 square feet of retail space, and 120,862 square feet of commercial space. And that is just the Heart of Central Downtown ONLY, NOT Counting the BRICKELL AREA or THE UPTOWN - OMNI AREA, which Could TRIPLE THAT AMOUNT !!!, WOW ! Awesome.

somebody show this guy some really pictures of miamis skyline... its sad that la is like three times the size of miami, and we have a better skyline and soon better public transportation...

la has a few pretty tall buildings, and thats it... miami has a few pretty tall, and then a shitload of mediumly tall, thats wat makes a real downtown, the mediums in between the super talls, thats wat downtown la is lacking, at least from what i see in this picture

i have a picture that shows some crazy density of miami, but i cant figure out how to post pictures... can any1 help me out wit that?

one miami has 450 each = 900
met 1 has 450
dupont has about 600 in one tower and 400 in the other =1000

thats about 2350 in that area alone
not counting met 2 and met 3

someone add up
lofts 1 downtown
carbonell
brickell on the river
jade
brickellbay tower and park place
marybrickell village tower
and tell me how much we have there under construcution now.

and then add the PAC area

not to mention that met 1, dupont, and one miami are all ont he same street, thats almost 3000 units (not people, units! so probably even more people) on one street, not to mention when met 3 goes up, thatll b another probably more than 500 unis, the density here is gonna b crazy, talk about urban living

a few thousand people. living and workin on one block!

RX :) , I did some Math here, and if you add all the Condos going up on Coral Way Outside Coral Gables City Limits which is MIAMI City Limits, MIDTOWN TOWERS, Miami Design District Towers, you missed and all the Edgewater condos Such as BLUE CONDOS Tower, Onyx, Onyx 2, ICE, ICE 2, Platiumun Tower, STAR LOFTS Tower, ROSEBELLA Tower, THE OPERA TOWER, 18oo CLUB Tower, THE QUAUNTUM Towers, Ten Museum Park Tower, 900 Biscayne Tower, Marina Blue Tower, MARQUIS Tower, CITE Towers, IVY TOWERS, Plaza on Brickell Towers, Downtown LOFTs 2 Tower, and of Course the Everglades on the Bay Towers, with the Neo Vertika Tower, Infinity Tower, Axis Towers, AVENUE TOWERS, Park Place Towers, Emerald Tower, Sail on brickell Tower, Latitiude Tower, Beacon at Brickell Village Tower, I left out about 20 more, but I just added so far, LOL. Its OVER 15,000 UNITS :) and thats only the Next 4 years of CONSTRUCTION in MIAMI ALONE, Not counting the Rest of the County, Such as Sunny Isles Beach, DADELAND, also known as KENDALL, Coral Gables, COCONUT Grove, AVENTURA, SOUTH BEACH, NORTH BEACH, North Bay Village, North Miami's Biscayne Landings, which will have over 1,200 Units in 10 - 25 Story towers. THE FUTURE of MIAMI-DADE County :) will have more Condos Than Single family Homes, I PREDICT. any Comments?

btw, here's the actual one miami website: one miami (http://www.onemiami.net)

This is the most exhilarating view of all, especially when the cruise ships are in and the "crazy" ultralite pilot hovers over the glistening bay. I make sure to take all first time visitors to Miami to experience this view and if we have time, to enjoy a cocktail at the Rusty Pelican.

November 11th, 2004, 08:15 PM
I agree. The Rusty Pelican restaurant is definitely the best restaurant for the best view of the Miami skyline. If I was rich, I would eat there every day, just for the view. By the way, am I the only one who gets a little frustrated everytime they show a picture of Miami on TV or in a magazine and it's like 10 years old, without even the 4 seasons tower showing up anywhere. It seems like the same old picture is used over and over. Hopefully in a few years after some of these new buildings are built, some TV producer or some magazine editor will say "hmm, this picture doesn't really look like Miami anymore...Time for a new one!" And at that point hopefully the view from the Rusty Pelican or the Rickenbacker will be used, since it is really the best angle.

south florida dave
November 16th, 2004, 06:09 AM
the name ada gives me nightmares. i went to private catholic school as a kid (holy rosary down in perrine if anyone's heard of it) & one of the nuns was named sister ada. the nuns there were like the sisters of mercy. scared the shit out of me sometimes. so i don't care how well built 1390 ada is, i'll never be able to look at her without thinking of horrible, militant soul-sucking nuns. now that i've got that off of my chest...

seriously though, i just wanna run in & snap a pic. i don't wanna deal too much with the sales staff if i can help it.

so where's the sales office at roark?

What I find really amazing is that we are all so consumed with the massive towers being built in Miami and we have failed to realize that the Port of Miami is currently undergoing a huge renovation at what I believe to be the Carnival Cruise Lines Terminal. From what I could see last night as I sped by on the Macarthur Causeway the entire terminal had been demolished or removed and a small portable crane was already on site. I hope the new terminal if that what it really is, comes out as beautiful if not better than the royal Caribbean terminal just west of it. This is crucial for this city considering how many tourists pass through there annually and hopefully decide to come back to visit us. If anyone can find any info please let us know...

i wasn't even aware the port was being renovated. it's easy to lose sight of something like that with all the hi-rise talk grabbing everyone's attention.

glad they're taking care of the port cause parts of it really need help. & the port is, afterall, a major part of the life blood of miami.

Answering my own questions, I found this online:

The infrastructure that will be required to meet projected increases in cargo and cruise during the next 20 to 30 years is being addressed in a capital improvement program that includes 37 projects and over $250 million.

In 2003, two new parking garages were constructed and completed to accommodate the increase number of drive-in cruise passengers. Among the projects scheduled for completion in 2004 are: two new cruise terminals and the remodeling of two existing ones; a new cruise entry gate; two new parking garages; construction of a new cargo shed; two new wharves; a new cargo and security gate facility; and a new refrigerated container yard.

Here are our new cranes en route to the Port of Miami (POM)

http://www.cranemgt.com/index_files/zpmc-changxing%20000_2980.jpg

http://www.cranemgt.com/index_files/zpmc-changxing%20048c.jpg

"The new cranes 11-12 have shipped from ZPMC fully erected on 2-Nov-2004. The cranes were commissioned and tested at ZPMC Changxing Base where also most of the punchlist items were corrected with exception of those that must be addressed in Miami. As a result of unexpected maritime conditions, the cranes are now expected to arrive in Miami by early January 2005. Thereafter, they are scheduled to go through final commissioning, testing and certification to soon after commence work on vessels within two months.”

"The electrification of the Port’s gantry cranes commenced in July 2004. The civil works commenced first while the crane work being performed by ECC (East Coast Cranes) began a month later. All work to include the installation of the cable trench and electrical feeders at Wharf 5 has been completed. The work is well underway on Wharf 3 and part of Wharf 4. This work includes strengthening of the crane rail support beam, electrical pit, cable trench, electrical underground feeders and new fenders. The construction of the new electrical vault/switch gear room is complete and the underground feeders to the electrical pits is in progress.”

"Along with the new cranes on the Zhenhua 4, we are taking delivery of four (4) new operator cabins for cranes 7-10, two (2) sets of trolley wheels for cranes 8 and 10, four (4) new 50LT Twin-lift 20/40/45 Spreaders, an Over-height Adaptor, and, a 75LT Cargo Beam with three (3) 65LT Twin-lift 20/40/45 Spreader for the new cranes"

wow, the cranes are fully built when they ship them?! that's really something. i'd have never guessed that's how they travel. it's pretty trippy to see those huge cranes loaded onto that ship, or those ships if there's more.

toucano, do you know where the cranes are coming from?

GO, CRANES: The Port of Miami is making way for the arrival of two Chinese heavyweights next month. Each of the two cranes, manufactured by Zhenhua Port Machinery of Shanghai, can handle ships 22 containers wide and has a reach of 213 feet. The Super-post-panamax is fully electrical and powered by 13,200 volts with diesel backup.
