I lived in Nagoya for about 4 months - not very long, but enough time to get to know the city and its people. I must say I love it, though it's said that comparing to Tokyo or Osaka there's nothing interesting to do in Nagoya, but I disagree. I like the city, its atmosphere and its people :)

Nagoya Express way... It's only disadvantage is that you still have to pay ¥750 even if you drive only a short stretch...:bash:

and if you miss your stop you have to go all the way around and pay again!!

Not always, depends where you want to exit the motorway. If you're on the 都心環状線 you can go around and around without exiting and having to pay again.

Well, I do like the exterior design of the office tower (especially the mid-section). As for the residential tower, there goes you're typical boxy Japanese architecture once again.

Oh well. As long as they make up for it with super-modern interior then perhaps the flaws can somewhat be minimized.

If it's in the location I think it's in it will be displacing a lot of seedy businesses. The area has great restaurants and it used to be the busiest area in the city (until the americans took over the area after the war for a base). It's not an amazing building, but it's not horrible.

Mode Gakuen reminds me of Galvatron... When I moved to Nag's 5 years ago it was a much more boring skyline... great to see it spurting up!

Nagoya is a great city...well planned and everything but i just wish for more garden and park in the city thou.

^^ Yeah. Greater Nagoya is, probably, the most sparsely-built-up metropolitan area in Japan after Sapporo which would have made it ideal to have large parks and/or gardens.

JR Tokai to construct Nagoya's tallest building there!

ＪＲ東海が、松坂屋名古屋駅店などが入居している「名古屋ターミナルビル」（名古屋市中村区
名駅１）を取り壊し、オフィスや商業施設、ホテルなどが入居する高層ビルを建設する計画を
進めていることが９日、分かった。隣接する旧名古屋中央郵便局の敷地で、日本郵政グループ
などが計画中の高層ビルとの一体的な開発で、予定地の南にあるＪＲセントラルタワーズ
（高さ２４５メートル）級の超高層ビルの建設も視野に入れている。

ＪＲ東海は２０１０年にも名古屋ターミナルビル解体に取り掛かり、１６年度を目標に新ビルを
完成させる。日本郵政の再開発ビルとともに、年内に基本構想を発表する。計画ではＪＲ東海と
日本郵政がそれぞれ建設する高層ビルを地上通路で南北につなぐ。名古屋ターミナルビルの
１、２階に入っている名古屋市営バスなどの発着ターミナルは新ビルの１階部分に集約する。

２つの新ビルを合わせた敷地面積は計約２万４０００平方メートル、延べ床面積は計
約５０万平方メートルでＪＲセントラルタワーズの約４２万平方メートルを上回る。高さは
設計段階で詰めるが、ＪＲ東海の新ビルは中部地方で最も高いミッドランドスクエア
（２４７メートル）より高層になる可能性もある。

また、松坂屋など現在のターミナルビルのテナントにも基本構想を説明した上で、再入居の
方法などを話し合うとみられる。松坂屋幹部は「名古屋駅前からの店舗撤退は現段階では
計画していない」と話している。

ＪＲ名古屋駅前の再開発では日本郵政グループなどが今年４月、旧名古屋中央郵便局の敷地
約１万２０００平方メートルに高層ビルを建設する方針を表明。その後、隣接地を含む
一体的開発が有効と判断し、ＪＲ東海側に打診していた。日本郵政は１０年に現在の建物を
取り壊し、１２年に新ビルを完成させる予定。

Although this inn is not even in the best-ryokan ranking of Japanese inns, they seem to know every detail to please Westerners' eyes. (resort-like atmosphere with sophisticated Japanesque architecture)
Now more and more Westerners are coming to this inn according to their blog. (For now, they are seeing more Japanese domestic guests but they forecast by 2020 the number of foreign guests will surpass that of Japanese guests.)

Ikeda Mountain is located just North from Ogaki, on Gifu Prefecture. There is a ramp for Hang gliding in this place, a nice place to see Nobi Plains from above :)

Shirakawago is a very famous tourist spot in its own right. Gokayama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gokayama) is a village next to Shirakawago. Administrativley, it's a part of Nanto City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanto,_Toyama), Toyama Prefecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyama_Prefecture), Hokuriku region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokuriku_region), while the village of Shirakawa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirakawa,_Gifu_%28village%29) belongs to Gifu Prefecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gifu_Prefecture), Tokai region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dkai_region). In reality, though, Shirakawa has more economic/cultural ties with Toyama than with central Gifu (or even Takayama).

Gokayama also preserves gassho-zukuri houses. There are actually five settlements (hence go (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E4%BA%94#Japanese)), and I visited Ainokura, the largest among them. Ainokura, however, is still much smaller than Shirakawago, which itself is fairy small. Ainokura preserves 20 or so traditional houses.

30 minutes trip by bus took me to Johana, a small town in southern Toyama Prefecture. Administratively, it's still a part of Nanto City. The town calls herself "the little Kyoto of Etchu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etch%C5%AB_Province) (Toyama)", but is much less famous than Takayama/Furukawa. I didn't find a single "tourist-like" person here.

This day, I first went to Awazu Onsen, 30 minutes ride from Kanazawa on a limited express train.

The onsen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onsen) (hot springs) is nowadays losing its popularity against the rivals such as Wakura Onsen. This place, however, is known for the ryokan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryokan_%28Japanese_inn%29) (Japanese hotel) called Hoshi.

Hoshi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoshi_Ryokan), opened in 718, is the oldest hotel in the world still operating. It is also the oldest continuously operated company in the world still surviving. (It was the second oldest until Kongo-gumi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kong%C5%8D_Gumi), founded in 578, was sold in 2006.)

Roughly 2 km from Awazu Onsen, or 40 minutes on my foot, is the Motorcar Museum of Japan (http://www.hot-ishikawa.jp/f-lang/english/kaga-hakusan-area/muse-detail.html). The museum, founded by a local millionaire, is relatively unknown compared with the official museums by Toyota (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Automobile_Museum) or Honda. (http://world.honda.com/collection-hall/) However, it is this museum that houses the largest collection of cars in Japan.

i think theres a ガンダム expo or something there~ guess thats one of the reason why theres ガンダム in　静岡.. did they moved it from オダイバ。。

Down town is also being shifted to along these transportation corridors to help minimize movement.
