Its time we took a trip down memory lane. The stuff we loved in our youth that we really miss and experienced.
Since i was born in the early 80's,my fondest memories are in the 90's when i was in primary.
Security
Back in the late 80's upto mid 90's violent crime was not as widespread as it is.We used to live in Langata and our only defense system?a bottle placed at the door handle to deter would be house breakers.Once the thief turned the door handle, the bottle would break, and th thief would run away.that is such a contrast to the hardened criminals that are in place this days.
Infact,i remember i langata, the obnly crime was house breakins when ownwers were either asleep or away.Cars were rarely stolen, and neighbors who had more than one car would park the extra vehicles outside.
Thus i miss the security of the early days.
The all powerful Moi
Back in the days Moi was the alpha and omega. We believed that Moi had satellite dishes so powerful that he could listen in on our conversations.
Moi travelled all over, today he would be in kapsabet, tomorrow in siaya.stopping at almost all shopping centers and villages.
KBC news always started with news about Moi.His harambees, and tree planting exercise.
You have to agree, though moi messed up our economy, the guy had some swagger.lol
The free government milk
Moi's ambitious venture of supplying free school milk to every primary school in kenya.I have to say, that it was good quality milk.
unfortunatly,it was discontinued.
The nairobi Agricultural show
i remember this used to be one of the big events of the year.families would dress up to go shop and see exhibitions of different products from different companies. As a kid i looked forward to the face painting, and the toys on sale.also the amusement park rides were great.
omo pick a box
one of the most watched shows of the 90's.I remember contestants leaving 10,000 kshs [which was alot in those days],to try their luck at the box, only to find out they won toothpick, toothbrush or a box of omo.
And do you remember the ever changing "upgrades" of omo.sijui Omo,then omo with powerfoam, then omo with powerfoam plus,it seemed like every year omo unleashed a better version of its detergent.leaving users to ponder whether they had been using substandard detergent before the upgrade.
Notable products of the 80's and 90's
1. Big Gee - chewing gum.
2. Ball gum - it used to be around 10cents per gum
3.Patco - dont know if thy are still around.
4.bata bullets
5.Jik
6.Quencher - juice
7.Golden mourn - breakfast cereal.
8.ATari - video game
9. Sega mega - video game, notable games like street fighter and mortal kombat.
