View Full Version : Bus Services that may be gone due to opening of CCL

We all have gone through the NEL and closure/re-routing of services like 82,85,81,111,103,106 etc. Now Circle Line will be opening soon. Any bus services that may be removed? As LTA takes over as Central Bus Network Planner, we shall see if our predictions are true... For a start, I predict that Service 70 will be shortened to just Serangoon Int instead of all the way to Shenton Way because after Sgn its practically following CCL...

BUS 91

Hmmm, Possible bus service to be removed. Then this reminds me, Service 11 can be removed too if you were to take these services in to account.

I can't believe this thread has so little imput.

I'm not too sure about services based along the NEL but just with the NSL alone, I can come up with quite a few services which will probably get modified and/or consolidated, an outright cancellation is highly unlikely.

Yishun- 853
Yio Chu Kang- 13, 70, 76
Ang Mo Kio area- 22, 24, 135, 45
Bishan- 55, 58

From the CCL opening onwards and subsequent consolidations, will officially mark the beginning of an eventual and inevitable significant downsizing of SBS Transit's bus operations...

Most of them here can be modified. 13? I think there is no need for its cancellation or modification. Well, there will still be people taking these routes. Certain routes you pointed out will merely have decreased frequency, or serve for people to go from MRT stns to places without MRT...

93 will either be completely abolished or have a very drastic change in route.

165 and perhaps 855 as well.

i dont think the opening of CCL will bring about many withdrawals and drastic re-routings of bus services like the NSL/EWL/NEL, since its only meant to link suburban areas, and not so much to link housing estates to the city area... most services will only get some re-routing i suppose. as mentioned by many above, services like 28, 45, 58, 73, 93 will probably get amended, and other services may get fleet reduction

Some mention decreased frequency and reduced fleet, I wonder what do they actually mean by that? Will it even be allowed, since PTC had decreed on the frequencies of buses.

And one more thing, DECREASED FREQUENCIES??!! So an average of 35 minute wait or more??!!

HARBORFRONT AREA alot will get affected. especially those from the west such as 10

Some of the changes needed to bus services will have been obvious during the planning stages, but some will become apparent only after traffic patterns start to settle. In general, the public reaction to new rail services is perhaps 90% or even 95% predictable, but never 100% predictable.

For example, CCL3 ridership is currently well below projections.

There is actually such a huge crowd boarding bus 70 from Gulliemard Rd to Shenton Way during the morning peak that buses have to turned back from Shenton Way to start halfway from Gulliemard Rd. But they might tackle this with a Dakota-station-and-premium-service combination to settle this issue.

Yes. Fleet reduction and some re-routing is the best way, at least it maintains the connection.

nononono, if you take away those 2 plus 93, then my house outside left with 74 and 157, which means bus coming in to adam road only comes from bukit timah/ dunearn. should at least keep a service to Farrer.

BYE BYE 93.

and 58 is actually really essential, hitting parts of Ubi y'all haven't even seen. Haha. And not to mention the Kaki Bukit-Bedok Reservoir-Pasir Ris route is a dream come true.

keep at least 93 or 165, 165 is partially innocent, it stops following the CCLroute after a certain point, it should be kept :)

I just looked at the 93 map route. OMG, it's like a CCL bus version. Well, but like i said, not everyone lives infront or near the CCL stations, sometimes bus is an alternate way that reaches your doorstep :)

I think it will still be removed because NUS Shuttle buses will be able to serve from Kent Ridge. That aside, 95 is actually quite a profitable service, and I'm sure there will still be some demand even after CCL4&5 open.

93 will become really unprofitable. Even now at 9pm when some buses plying Farrer are still quite full, 93 is really empty.

And 855 will definitely remain a very popular service for people travelling between the north and Bt Merah area, the only portion that replicates CCL is only between Farrer Road Station and Botanic Gardens Station. Upper Thomson Road is quite a walk from Marymount, and it often remains packed from Bt Merah all the way to Yishun, picking up and dropping off passengers at the same time.

Not so sure about 165, because it replicates the popular Service 7 until Holland V where most the route can be continued on MRT. After Ang Mo Kio it's actually quite similar to route 74, which I think will be axed only after DTL2 is open.

The thing is if they cut too many bus routes.. which forces us to take the mrt (even if the route is similar), is forcing me to make the long walk between the stations and my destinations. and thats the thing i like about such buses, it's always empty, so peaceful :)

True, and also not many places are serve by nearby MRT Stations, see what happen during the 2003 NEL Rationalisation, alot of Bus services got axed and amended which causes a lot of confusion and lost of links, but thankfully there's only 2 of them manage to survive till today, Route 133 and 147.

What they probably can do is to keep the services for a while and monitor the situation. I'm sure there will be a few buses where demand will have a very significant drop at certain portions after 1 month or so. But I agree that route amendments should be kept minimum.

FYI- bus service 13 terminates at around singlap area , near the bedok army camp, and also goes thru several geylang areas so unless ERL is passing there it will still stay on for a while.

bus service 24 goes thru several zones- AMK-hougang-Paya lebar-upper changi area-terminates at airport.still quite a needed service.
