View Full Version : Are these people for real?
Newcastle Guy September 15th, 2009, 09:52 PM A bit of a kerfuffle over Russel Brand's NHS comment at the VMAs:
Link (http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/ggutfeld/2009/09/14/daily-gut-forget-kanye-its-all-russell/#idc-ctools)
I made my own comment because I noticed the comments were disproportionately right-wing.
However, I then got this reply from an especially ignorant Republican:
Hilarious. Here in America we can schedule to see a doctor within 48 hours while you socialist clowns are on your knees begging some bureaucrat for aspirin. Here in America you can have an x-ray the same day you see your doctor. Do you have x-ray machines in Britain? What's the average wait time to see a cardiologist or neurologist? 1 year? Here it's two weeks at most. Here in America we have MRI machines in virtually every hospital unlike the third rate hospitals in western Europe where you're lucky to have an a/c unit in the window. Maybe western Europe should join the 21st century and get central cooling. Oh, that's right, you're backward socialists and don't have money for such things. You better hope you never get cancer in Britain.
Seriously, are these people for real? They seem to think they know exactly what our system is like, without ever having set foot here. I know that sounds a little hypocritical, but I have at least tried to angle my arguments towards defense of our system instead of attacking theirs.
This raised a question with me: why are we so quick to believe everything we've told? I've been asked this question by my aunty recently, I... debate with her a lot :D and most of my arguments are formed with information from the net. It's not just the right-wing Americans, people who read The Sun and take their stories to heart, people who read the Bible and take it literally etc... What makes some of us believe whatever we're told, even if it is bollocks/quite blatantly untrue? It baffles me. Surely people can't be that ignorant?
Noostairz September 15th, 2009, 09:56 PM yes they are for real. an alarming number of americans believe we were all born in barns and transferred (after a lengthy waiting period) to the butchers for circumcision. they pity us backward fools, for we could only dream of their premiums, insecurity and debt. ha! only profit-churning big business can save you, you socialist fools! etc, etc.
russell brand was uncharacteristically funny when he made that NHS comment at the VMA's - kanye west was funnier though.
mic of Orion September 15th, 2009, 10:00 PM over there "Ignorance is bliss" NCG, most rebs (GOP-KKK-NRA) supporters think, alike, sick, ignorant and very uncultured... I can only tell you visit NA Health-care thread, I've been battling some really stupid and ignorant forumers there, its really pointless to even talk how I feel about ppl like that ...

Strange.............................
..................there was me thinking that British and European people were healthier and lived longer than Americans.
There was me also thinking that such AMAZING American healthcare is confined to those that have not been fucked by the 'American way of life'. Those not rich or secure enough are instead left to die of treatable illness.
How very.....third world
Curious indeed.
Nightjar September 15th, 2009, 10:05 PM I'm so jaded and indifferent these days that I scarcely get bothered by anything these days - but this, but this...Holy Crap!!!
F**kin' Americans - The ignorance, arrogance and venality is breathtaking!
ill tonkso September 15th, 2009, 10:08 PM What exactly did Russell Brand and Kan Ye West say? (I missed that one)
nezzybaby September 15th, 2009, 10:09 PM My responses if you're interested, the point about my grandad is true, and slighlty surprising, he's on his last legs.
Hilarious. Here in America we can schedule to see a doctor within 48 hours while you socialist clowns are on your knees begging some bureaucrat for aspirin.
GPs normally give a same day appointment, often within hours of phoning. 48 hours is barbaric, and yes aspirin costs pennies from any chemist, supermarket or newsagent.
Here in America you can have an x-ray the same day you see your doctor. Do you have x-ray machines in Britain? What's the average wait time to see a cardiologist or neurologist? 1 year? Here it's two weeks at most.
x-ray machines are of course in every hospital, and yes we get same day service, normally takes about 3 hours from entering casualty to being x-rayed, though obviously if it's busy you may have to wait as much as 5. 2 weeks is a long time to wait to see a cardiologist, I can't imagine waiting that long then paying through the teeth for it. My grandad was admitted to hospital yesterday, they're already trying to book his apointment to have a pacemaker fitted, how long and how much would that cost in "the land of the free".
Hmm well fortunately we live in cool climates so a/c isn't a massive problem, although all our wards are of course temperature controlled, and yes every hospital has an MRI machine, not to have one would be unthinkable. I wonder what it costs you to get an MRI scan, over here it's free, just like everything else. Poor buggers indeed.
Oh yeah, might be worth checking the cancer survival rates in your "first world" country, and those in our "third world" one, they make interesting reading.
Newcastle Guy September 15th, 2009, 10:12 PM This was my original reply:
Funniest thing I've ever read on the net!
I went to the Doctors last week because I found a lump on my testicle. Phoned at 8:30 in the morning. Saw the GP at 10:45. If you phone early enough you always get an appointment the same day, otherwise you can book one for the next day. If you are especially worried, anyone can go to a hospital to see a Doctor.
My friend broke his finger snowboarding two weeks ago. We went to the hospital and within an hour he'd had an Xray and was told what was wrong.
As I've already said, my grandad had bowel cancer and my uncle (more recently) had pancreatic cancer. They're both still alive.
Best thing about these examples? We didn't get charged a penny!
I don't know if you were trying to be funny and just exaggerating with your Aspirin comment, but we can buy aspirin in a chemist whenever we need it. I expect you were joking, but considering how stupid the rest of your post was, I thought I'd let you know just in case :-)
I hope you were joking with that post, The_Great_Satan. It's one of the most misinformed things I've seen on the net. Nearly as bad as that Republican guy who thought that Stephen Hawking was American. lol. You guys REALLY believe what the Republicans tell you then? You're really that gullible? THAT is hilarious :-) And you wonder why the rest of the world laughs at you... I know you aren't representative of all Americans, most I've met have been VERY nice people, but you really are letting your side down by posting ^^ that, Mr. Satan. Part of me is suspecting your actually from Britain, trying to make Americans look stupid and ignorant. That part of me is thinking 'someone can't possibly be as stupid as this, surely?'
But then i realized that was probably a bad way of going about the argument, so I posted this:
You know what, I'm going to apologize. I don't want to be an arsehole. I just don't want Americans thinking we have some kind of third world health system. We're proud of it, it has worked for us, and it has saved a lot of people. I shouldn't really comment about your system, because I got my information from Michael Moore's 'Sicko', which is about as biased as you can get :-D
We should all just try and learn some FACTS about each others systems before we comment. All I can do is defend mine, because I haven't experienced yours first hand. Like you, I get my information from sources that are VERY biased against the rival system. Just know that our system isn't nearly as bad as you've been led to think, just like I'm sure yours isn't as bad as we across the Pond have been told :-)
Getting them angrier isn't going to help, I don't think. I know the ignorance is annoying, but the best way to spread the truth has to be to take a calmer tone, and not bait them... Maybe. We'll see :) At least I get to take the moral highroad now, if anything :D
I still don't see why we're so quick to believe things which are blatantly crap though.
CharlieP September 15th, 2009, 10:13 PM A bit of a kerfuffle over Russel Brand's NHS comment at the VMAs:
For those of us who've clearly been living on the Moon for the last however many days, what are "the VMAs", and what did the twatmonkey say?
StephenP September 15th, 2009, 10:18 PM The amount of ignorance, prejudice and stereotyping come out of there mouths are awful. I cannot believe what half of them are saying.
It's unbelievable!:bash:
Noostairz September 15th, 2009, 10:19 PM For those of us who've clearly been living on the Moon for the last however many days, what are "the VMAs", and what did the twatmonkey say?
mtv video music awards. while hosting in new york his opening comments went something like: there's a lot of differences between the US and UK - you call it the sidewalk, we call it the pavement, you call it a trashcan, we call it a rubbish bin, you let people die in the streets, we have free healthcare.
cue cheers and boos.
nezzybaby September 15th, 2009, 10:21 PM For those of us who've clearly been living on the Moon for the last however many days, what are "the VMAs", and what did the twatmonkey say?
I remember from my yoof, that the VMAs are MTVs music award show, not sure what it stands for though, probably Video Music Awards, though obviously MVAs would make more sense.
city3456789 September 15th, 2009, 10:25 PM Ok, America may be pretty crazy, but we don't have the market cornered. Does America have Anti-Muslim protests on 9/11 or a racist party elected to a postion in gov't? No.
Erebus555 September 15th, 2009, 10:25 PM VMAs are the Video Music Awards. It was hosted by Russell Brand and he said, “instead of letting people die in the street, we have free health care.”

Pff yes and those are usually the people that eat at Mcdonalds, and before you jump to say "that's the majority of the population" understand that you are making the same mistake as these idots. The European understanding of the Americans is that they arogant fat consumerist pricks and that of American that Europeans are suffering from lack of civilization. Obviousely both are false and all it takes is 3-4 ignorant duchebags to create a generalization for everyone.
I have lived both in US and UK. While in the majority of the cases there is not much difference, the US by far has the most research and developement departments, experimental cures, new medications, newer machines, etc.. All this does come from the private companies and is fueled by the healthcare being a private sector In addition to see a specialist here takes less than a week, in UK I had to wait 3 months. . I am not saying I did not get the same quality of work, just took longer. Most people that argue against free public healthcare take this issues to the extreme because they have hardly ever tested the healthservice elsewhere. If you try and explain that what's better here is the research and developement, some would assume that elsewhere there is no AC. If you make the case that the wait for "specialists" here is less, they assume that that goes for every doctor, and if you explain that new "experimental" medication is available only here, they would assume that there are no aspirins there. Is ignorant and stupid I know, but so is assuming that Americans have issues with "their premiums, insecurity and debt" as you put it.
The cause of this has obviousely been the debate to "socialize" healthcare. Another "great" idea of our retarded president. Since all the state-run departments are running perfectly, why not add another one to it and screw it up even further.

JackSwan September 15th, 2009, 11:35 PM i find some of the comments left by the yankee-swine on that site rather humorous, actually. i know, i know, i’m letting the side down. with little culture worth mentioning and a population rapidly becoming entirely fat and ugly, those perpetually ignorant colonial numbnuts should really try to mature a little by embracing the obvious virtues of socialism, and etc.
and i fought the nva for three hard years from '65, and i can tell you it ain't no laughing matter. damn disrespectful fucking brand, is it? we'd have fragged his ass in the 'nam.
future.architect September 15th, 2009, 11:36 PM this whole nhs debate raises a few questions. the usa spends 18% of its gdp on healthcare but the system is not open to everyone. we spend 8% for a open system but some wait times would be unacceptable for people in the usa and some experimental drugs are not availiable. should we be spending more on the nhs? imagine what it would be like if we spent twice as much money on it?

Talk about the ignorance and foolishness by some of the members of this message board. The desperation for some to find anything on the internet to justify their hatred of a country is pretty messed up.
As for this story----Russell Brand gets on stage and says that Americans are dying in the streets. What the hell do you expect Americans to say about that? If Chris Rock went on stage and said your country was fucked up---you people would be foaming at the mouths. And to compare the situation here to one of the worst healthcare systems in Western Europe? I'm sorry, but pot calling kettle black in my opinion. How am I being a cunt about anything? I am not stereotyping an entire nation, mocking your culture, calling you racists, or anything of that nature. I just implied that NHS has a slew of problems, needs improvements, and should be the focus of those on this thread----rather than what goes on in a country across the ocean that most of you will never live in.
And its true, you guys would be foaming at the mouth if similar comments were directed towards the UK from an American (especially). This thread is an example of that. The difference is you are getting bent out of shape about a blog that is unknown to more than 99% of Americans.

Yeah becuase I stated EVERY AMERICAN
There are Americans that are utterly retarded and so incredibly insular in their views that they completely ignore the advantages of any system bar the systems they experience, even if evidence FACTUAL EVIDENCE shows the 'foreign' systems are better.

You see, no one denies that. I certainly don't. We know there are problems with it. It's just a lot of what I've seen points to the opposite with right-wing Americans, I've seen comments which to me make it look like these people think the health care in the USA is whiter than white, infallible... When most of the proof points the other way. It's like religion, people having blind faith in something without backing it up with anything substantial. I don't know if these people secretly bitch about their system and DO acknowledge it's flaws in private, but somehow I doubt it.
Just so you don't think I'm a hypocrite, my very sentence in the comments section was along the lines of "We have the 18th best health care system in the world, not great by any standards." Not every, but you are with people of a certain political leaning. Even on the right and left---there are differences in opinion on things. They aren't so worried about the advantages and disadvantages of the system so much as they are about who would be running the system. People don't trust Obama and the Democrats---and it is my belief that those opinions of the Democrats are not unfounded. There are of course idiots who won't listen to anything, but people such as these are often not that respected on the right---despite what you may believe.

Few people actually think things here are 100% perfect for everybody. Those that do are ignorant. Assuming that people like this are a majority is just wrong. Most people who oppose these plans are happy with what they have. This is a very individualistic society and you can't expect every American to change their ways---especially when so many have high quailty healthcare. The vast majority do have health insurance. People here forget these things when looking at America when it comes to social programs. Add to this the mistrust of government in this country when it comes to their lives. I do enjoy it when Americans go all apeshit when someone dares to criticise their nation in some way.
As for the national healthcare in the UK and European nations. They are ALL ranked above the United States.
Also consider that British and European people are healthier and live longer than Americans.
There was me also thinking that such AMAZING American healthcare is confined to those that have not been fucked by the 'American way of life'. Those not rich or secure enough are instead left to die of treatable illness.
How very.....third world of the United States, truly the sick patient of the developed world.
Retarded American
Coming from an idiot who lives in a country that has a lottery for healthcare. Who needs a lottery system if it's as wonderful as you claim? The fact is your healthcare sucks.
Your mortality rate from cancer is 4 times greater than ours. Just so you know fool, we know what an inefficient, rationed "healthcare" system you have. I hope you like waiting a year to see a specialist, if you have specialists at all. Maybe we should model our healthcare system after the French where thousands die in the hospitals from heat simply because the French hospitals don't have central air.
A year, not exactly sure where you obtain such bullshit.
I have always received excellent medical care from the NHS. As for the French comment, oh please only a retarded individual lacking any basic levels of intelligence would think of such a comment. Indeed had you pulled your somewhat bloated head out of your McDonalds fattened hole and spent some time reading on that situation would be in a better position to comment.
Cancer rates in the UK are improving year on year. However, maybe we could look at the Land of The Free and examine your falling life expectancy, growing levels of poor health, increasing number of patient deaths from what are treatment and non-live threatening condition in the Europe.
Lets also look at America, a nation that spends more per head on healthcare than ANY nation on Earth yet is ranked 38th in the world for its healthcare standards. A nation were you are more likely to die younger than almost ANY other developed country and more likely to die from a preventable and/or curable illness.
So how about you shove that up your mis-informed hole and perhaps in future you take the time to research your facts and not base your world opinion on what FOX Faux-News tells you.
Retarded American

4) A failed stimulus package. Woops! There goes $700 billion! Sorry kids. That's "Hope/Change" for you!
and 7 million went on to march in Washington, according to the FOX, Padd, wake up and smell the coffee:lol:.
you guys live in alternative reality preached by Fox, Fox tends to preach lies and propaganda come 2010, you guys gonna sink like a titanic...
jmancuso September 18th, 2009, 11:39 PM Showing a few mispelled signs at rallies in an effort to discredit the opposition doesn't change:
1) Obama's plummeting approval ratings.
2) The Democrat's dismal prospects for 2010.

most of these people at those teabag-a-thons are not there because they are worried about government run healthcare or that obama is marching this country into the brink of fiscal oblivion but instead they get to protest a muslim commie kenyan. take a random sampling as to how many think obama is the anti-christ and the results would be horrifically high.
Paddington September 18th, 2009, 11:54 PM Who do you listen to? Jimmy Carter?
Only a small minority of people who oppose Obama are turning out at protests, generally because most conservatives (and even moderates) are law abiding types with 9-5 jobs, and have better things to do than imitate hippy protestors. Opposition to Obama runs deep, opposition to his policies run even deeper. He's a liar and an idiot whose done a lot more damage than good. His own party is holding up his policies in Congress, because they can see the tide has turned so quickly against him.
Why do you like Obama so much, anyway? :dunno:

typical response. you automatically assume i allow jimmy carter or anyone in the liberal establishment to think for me. i don't. i'm not even a liberal nor am i a big fan of obama but i will still call BS when i see it. i opposed the iraq war and voted against W twice but i also though many of his opponents and protesters on the left were crackpots...such as those code-pinkers.

The use of overt racism in FOX reports depicting Obama as stupid Kenyan Muslim and all cleverly disguised and in reference to Obam's health-care policy is so plain to see its just disgusting.
Padd, you are of Indian origin, what do you think what they' think of you deep down, I'll tell you what ppl like Bill O'fucwhat, to them you are only a pawn,. no matter what you do, you will always be seen as a second-class citizen by these White Anglo-Saxon Protestant corporate bastards.
no offense intended...
PresidentBjork September 19th, 2009, 01:20 AM interesting. the OED i have admittedly is 20 years old, but in that it has only one entry for spelt ( the wheat ) .
really? my one is 40 years old and the past tense of spell (verb t.& i.) is noted as (-elt or ~ed) :tongue4:
winrar!

i disagree with this. i don't think bill o'reilly (or anyone on FOX) is a racist nor do i think the majority of FOX viewers wish to re-instate slavery let alone care about paddington's ethnic heritage. a neo-con is a neo-con.

well, you've seen some of the slogans and pamphlets...
I think Padd is deluding himself if he thinks Neo-Cons aren't racist and ignorant as evident by numerous racist slogans and hate messages...
I agree his ethnicity shouldn't be an issue, but if you are honest, neo-cons are deep down racist bigots... less said...
Paddington September 19th, 2009, 02:59 AM I don't consider myself a Neo-Con, BTW. :dunno: Believe it or not, I was never real gung-ho on the Iraq War.
It hasn't escaped me that certain folks out there protesting Obama are racists. But does that mean I should sacrifice my own lifelong social and economic conservatism and start supporting the liberal Democratic party? I think not. I don't agree with any of their left-wing, crazy policies.
BTW, my people were never enslaved, though I'm sure you English probably tried at some point. ;)
Sadly though, a lot of the Indian people (actually most of them) think like you think I should think.  My parents say a lot of their fellow doctor friends gave money to Obama just to stick it to "white Americans", though I fail to see why they feel so much solidarity with some half-anglo/half-Kenyan who grew up partly in a Muslim household in Indonesia and then later in the heavily oriental, Pacific island of Hawaii. What the fuck has that got to do with me? :dunno: Most of these people were totally ignorant about any of the policies Obama supported. They just wanted to see some non-white guy in the White House.
OettingerCroat September 19th, 2009, 10:00 AM BTW, my people were never enslaved, though I'm sure you English probably tried at some point. ;)
uhhh south africa??? do you know what happened to indians just like you in South Africa??????? i mean, AT ALL???
you are officially disqualified from being taken seriously under any circumstances. first you lie and b.s. about living in England, then you claim some kind of knowledge or expertise regarding health care systems and the NHS, now you claim to be indian and don't know that you were used MASSIVELY for slave labour????
El Mariachi September 19th, 2009, 05:02 PM A poor standard of education perhaps?
in my experience, people this stupid usually would not take the time to protest.

you don't even know what your talking about mic.
So, a hundred thousand people show up to protest a half black president----and they are racist? This is funny to me because the only people still continuing to talk about race are the Democrats and other left-wing Obama supporters. You are more focused on race than most of these Republicans, who believe it or not, are more worried about his politics than his skin color. That novelty wore off a long time before the November election for most on the right. Not so for you, apparently. The only people you can find to back up your claims are some scattered jackasses. Wheras, I can point to you, Jimmy Carter, members of the black caucus, and various journalists in media througout the country----still being hung up on skin color and race.
Its a fucked up world when people are being accused of racism because they disagree with a political leader. It sets a bad precedent for the future. Thats not tolerance---its stupid and makes you no better than these accused racists. Speaking of minorities as if they need special treatment implies that they are stupid and less capable than white people like George W. Bush--hence, racism. The only people who think that minorities need special treatment are Democrats and liberals.

Illiteracy (spellchecked) isn't the same thing as stupidity.
I find the amount you know is proportial to your stupidity. I'm not joking. That's my opinion and that's Just The Way It Is. The more you know, the more you know that you know nothing. The wise philosopher Jeremy Clarkson once observed that there are two sides to every story and they're both right.
So we find ourselves outnumbered by strident idiots, happy to voice their nonsensical and ignorant thoughts on everything.
Example: you won't know this guy, but others here will. Jon Gaunt. He's a columnist for a UK tabloid rag and he's as daft as a pile of twigs. When I read his stuff I imagine him wearing a cap with a skull on it. I read his column to wind myself up. Just as I read the Daily Express, the self-proclaimed GREATEST NEWSPAPER IN THE WORLD.
True story.

I'd tend to agree. The same people protesting now would likely be doing the same regardless of the colour of the skin of a democratic president, the right wing/ republican crowd has gone batshit insane over there after 8 years of Bush afterall.
