:lol: Sorry, but having been to both China and NYC it is my view the NYC skyline is #1. I like Hong Kong's skyline (I would rank it #3 or #4 ... Chicago; is #2) Remember skyscraper architecture began in these two cities, and they can still boast of lovely early examples of highrises.:cheer:

In The Netherlands we have a girl/woman called Bridget Maasland. She has done a lot of programme's on Dutch tv. Before this she did 'How do I become a lady from 'Het Gooi'(Very rich part of The Netherlands)'. Now she does a new program: 'How do I become a New York lady'.

I'm thinking of moving to NYC sometime. I can't afford Manhattan, so I was think of places in NJ. I found several places in West NY, NJ. Is that a good area. I know Hoboken is nice. Englewood Cliffs? JC? Other areas across the river from Manhattan?

i mean im no nyc expert here but im guessing if you wanna live that urban lifestyle, ide shoot for brooklyn or queens. they r part of the actual city and are a little bit cheaper, i could be wrong tho.

anyone got pics from the snow u guys got? i love seeing NYC in snow. NYC is the only place i would live that gets cus i think its beautiful when you compare it to the bright lights of the city.

Baltimore has actually gotten more snow than that. I remember it was February 16,2003.We got a total of 27.2 inches.Schools were out for a week and it was crazy.Snow was definitely over knee deep. I was actually surprised to find out the northern cities like Philadelphia,New York, and Boston had received less snow than we did that day.It was incredible.And yes,27.2 inches of snow IN THE CITY.Not Suburbs.New York had gotten like 22-24 inches that day.That Noreaster just wouldn't budge.It just stayed on top of us and barely moved.But I don't ever recall a time where we were under a Blizzard warning like Boston and New York always have.Major Snowstorms that I've remembered were I think 96' somewhere near there and 03'.Seems like we have major snowstorms down here every 7 years or so.But Baltimore hasnt really received much snow recently.03's the most recent snowstorm.

WOW!!!! I'm from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and we've NEVER had nearly that much snow. We're lucky if we have snow by christmas. And we did this christmas! it was nice. but yeah, it rarely get's below -5 C or about 23 or 24 F. The snow always comes and then melts right away :(

Don't believe those snow pictures, it happens so rare that you have a higher chance of spotting a every month than seeing that kind of blizzard once a year.

Reeeeaally awesome this thread. It took me two days of my holiday to browse all 57 pages.

I'm looking for some special kind of photos. Somehow I like the view "through" the streets.
RFC has some shots from Jersey with the Intrepid and he looks nearly into two streets...
I know its difficult to do these images because there are no bridges or stuff like this...but maybe you have some more e.g. from Grand Central Terminal downtown or Metlife upwards or a helicopter..

Sometimes in TV series or movies you catch a few seconds looking straight down on buildings and city streets of Manhattan, maybe the movement with the tops of buildings scraping by gives it the edge?....always thought they look pretty cool.....anyone got a helicopter and a camera?????PS....mentioning the Intrepid??? where is it.....I went on a Circle LIne cruise last sept. and am sure it wasn't where I thought it should be?

I will admit that NYC is more structurally beautiful than LA. And, I appreciate that the forumers on this board from NYC don't constantly bash LA like those on City Data do. It's threads like this that make SSC better than CD, and the fact that everyone here gets along. :)

When I was last year in NY I missed the Intrepid too. I walked two times the Blocks on the Hudson River an didn't see her.(My travel guide (3 months old) told me she had to be there).
When I took the Staten Island Ferry I saw her in an Dock somewhere in the West. Around Christmans there was a docu in German TV where they showed how the Intrepid was freed from the mud in Hudson River and brought away for maintenance...

Thanks for the info on the Intrepid.....imagine it would need maintenance, been there for a long time now. Although it makes for a good museum I noticed in a photo they had a Concorde after it's retirement. I saw one at Dulles Airport just out of Washington DC( Smithsonian Annex Museum )...OK...???Hazy Centre??? Imagine under cover is the best option for preservation of historic aircraft. Where are all these aircraft now.....this thread is not for these questions I guess but one question leads to another? :ohno:

It was / is an ex US Navy Aircraft Carrier permantly moored on the Hudson River between the old Trans Atlantic Piers and the Circle Line Pier. As a museum itself and for assorted aircraft....in later years included a Concorde.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, there is only one is Queens - City Bank tower right by the Queensboro bridge. :)

Agreed! I was in New York last week (first time) and I went up the Empire State (3 times!) and the Top of the Rock and the views from both are just stunning. We went up the Rock on a great warm and clear day and I was blown away, especially with the view of the Empire State. What was even better was that even though it was the afternoon there were no queues for tickets or the lifts! I think a night time visit to the Top of the Rock is in order on my next trip to New York which i'll definitely be booking soon, I can't believe how much I miss the place.

Eh...that would be nice, but it wouldn't happen. There's too many nice low-mid rise buildings. Some people I know from Manhattan really like the low-rise areas because it still has an urban feel, but isn't as overpowering as some other areas of Manhattan. Don't know if that's true or not, just what I heard from some people.

A couple of reasons. First, for my profession in film production there is nothing going on here regardless of what many people may think. They are no post production facilities here. Second, I can't stand driving, especially with the Miamians. We have no type of mass transit system. Three, even though I was born and raised here, I have mad love for Miami, I hate it. It is like no one has any place to be. I can't deal with that. Fourth, a lot of people here can be very ignorant and do not know what is going on. Probably still feeling the effects of the polished club scene. Fifth, there are very few original bar bars, or classic places to just hang out. Everything is so polished as I said before. My whole family is either from NJ, NYC or Boston. So, That is the reason for the move. Going to go to NYU and let Miami grow a little bit as a city. (People are confused about Miami, but we are not a metropolis but just a big city.) We have some growing up to do.
