Had to bring these over to the next page. Last night's storm was refreshing. I was stuck on my bike and took shelter under some scaffolding. I would've gotten wet but nahh, not this time. Keep 'em coming!

omg last night i was in a cab and on the news they said big storms hit the tri state area, i was like errrrm its not even raining, but that i went to the roof for a bevvie and a fag and omg then i started, the cool thing was it wasnt raining but i still watched the lightning, then the heavans opened!

one thing ive found from being in the city for a week now, is that no matter how amazing photos are of new york, the real thing is soooo much better!

The pictures are awesome but they don't do NYC justice. Being there in person puts you in awe. Can't wait to get back there.:)

Whoops, didn't notice the repaint work going on to the right. Thats good. If it were all black it'd look much better though, imo. Perhaps with some black iron plates substituting the yellow. It'd be very dark/industrial and "gotham city" like...

RFCG, I see you've managed to capture the entrance to jones alley. Jones alley is actually unique and interesting in that it's the only alley around here that's in an L shape. Good finds everyone, thanks for positng them. That previous building on wall street was alot nicer/charming. It's replacement is still nice and works better with it's surroundings but the previous building had much more impressive details..

Wonderful...I hope they make a separation for bikers in every major avenue, it would be so cool if we can increase the number of cyclists in the city (we already have one of the highest rate of daily cyclists in the nation, but the more the merrier..lol)

I just want to thank each and every one of you who posted pictures in this thread, never in my life have I felt this alive about looking at my home town, I miss it so much (right now I am currently in Japan) I like it, but nothing will EVER beat NYC.

Its been about 3 years since ive set foot in nyc and just seeing these pictures made me feel so good inside I spent hours looking at all these great pictures that were taken by all you wonderful people.


I do have a request for anyone that takes pictures if or whenever you happen to stop by 14th street union square could you please take some pictures of it for me cause that use to be a place me and my friends would meet up at after work and just go about ours business, I miss it so much even though its something simple.

I will post up some pictures that I took forgive me with the quality of the pictures I had a crappy digital camera but ill post up them as soon as I learn how to upload pictures thank you for all your time and efforts into taking these pictures I see here.

Beaver 'House' must be painted black.
otherwise everything is great about the skyline, especially that building near the Chrylser with the the 3 spikes (chanin?) and its only getting better by the day. I like to try and find it and the old RCA building near Citigroup in aerial shots, early and often with tabasco!

When I went in to take a closer look at New York, I noticed almost all buildings are now modelled in 3D!

I've used some of my New York photographs and tried to find the exact same location in Google Earth.

BTW: It´s just Google, so you can make your own aerials. And it´s fairly easy.
Here you go:
- you have to adjust the URL. It can sometimes be quite tricky to find the right paramaters.

Please copy the URL to a text-editor and remove all spaces. Then adjust the parameters:

breite=5000 : the width of the map

lon=-73.98 : Longitude of center of the map
zoom=16 : Zoom-level on a scale from 1 to 19 I think. so you can go a bit closer to Manhattan
typ=sat : Type of the map. sat=satellite hyb=hybrid map=map and rel=topography

the rest is not important.
Afterwards copy it to you browser and enjoy it.

If you like to save it, I know two ways to do it:

- SnagIt: a screen-capture-software which is able to scroll horizontal and vertical. It takes quite a time but works on every Windows-browser. Depending on you machine the software can crash.

- A lot easier if you use Firefox. use the plugin Pearl Crescent Page Saver Basic. With one click you can save the whole window. You only need to crop the frame. http://pearlcrescent.com/products/pagesaver/ (free Basic version)

lol i think even a 7 year old knows the skyline of new york, is just about everywhere amazing indeed! but i dont know just gets a bit boring after looking at shots because is the repetion of what is portrayed so much.

you should!! since I guess you're in the West Coast, East Coast is an eye-opening experience. I live in NYC and the city surprises me every day. There's just so much to do and see here. No wonder it's the greatest city in the U.S :banana:

I keep trying to explain that. It's like if you wanted a BMW M5 more than anything in the world, but the payments may be difficult. You decide to go with a VW Passat or something. I mean it's nice, but you will always regret not fulfilling your dream. I will never be as happy in any college as NYU, but they don't understand. They think it's unsafe, I won't transition from suburbia, I won't like the winter, I will be lonely, and some other things. Well...it's in the village which is really nice and I know you have to watch your surroundings in NYC at all times anywhere, I hate suburbia and love dense and urban and vibrant cities with old architecture and highrises, I like snow, and my friend wants to go to NYU or FIT with me and I have family in Upstate and in the UES and in CT and in Boston and friends in South Ozone Park and some places on Long Island. So I really don't know what they're talking about. Parents are supposed to be happy with what their children want to do. My biggest problem is indecisiveness and I finally made a decision and they do not want to honor it.

Yeah, I live in LA near LAX. I hate it. I have to drive everywhere which has fucked me over way too many times. I already have a $400 ticket and got in a $750 attempted Hit-and-Run so I'm tired of driving already and I'm only 16. And I have to pay for gas, about $1k insurance per year, and I spent $11k on the car itself. I would have so much money if cars weren't necessary here. Also, I'm Jewish and there's more Jews in NYC. I don't like the weather here either. I am one of those people that can't have monotony in any aspect of life and the weather of LA is very monotonous. It was near 100 last weekend and everyone was complaining...well now its in the 60s and foggy which will last till early July when it will then be in the mid 70s for two months and warm up to 80 for a few days and then back into the 60s for several months with barely any rain and I love rain. Now we even have water rationing.

Sorry for my rant on my I want to move to NYC. LOL. Sorry. :)

I know that you are pretty young, and flame away but going to college is one of the first "big, real life decisions" you will ever encounter. I think that sometimes you will have to make decisions in life that will go against the.
wishes of friends and family, but ultimately you have to look out for yourself before pleasing everyone else.

NYC is a great place to go to college because we have great libraries, museums, cultural attractions. There are great opportunities in the summers for internships. I think you should also apply to Columbia, it is a great school too (speaking from experience) and the Jewish community on campus is big and strong. They are expensive schools; but it is WORTH it because the education that you get in these places is top notch. Apply to many scholarships and grants starting now (do a lot of volunteer work and ECs)... and good luck.

I totally agree that going to the big city is worth all the hasle. I am lucky enough to work in Paris about 9 months of the year. Initial hassle but now I can't imagine being without the endless variety, the urban drama, the scale, the sheer vibrancy of The City of Light.

Same with NY and a handful of other places. Worth all the hassle.

New York doesn't taste that great. Not to knock it but dudes...the Hudson just stinks to hell in the summer, doesn't it?

Perhaps some of the stink is part of the appeal? I mean I am not fond of the urine smell in the subways during the summer, but I can't imagine NYC without it lol.

And if we complain about the Hudson, just imagine living back a few hundred years ago when many people used to throw trash and human waste out in the streets. :nuts:

I walked from 51st to 76th and back to 51st(as a warm up) and then at 51st i took one of the free bike rentals, and i rode the bike all the way to the BK Bridge and i came back up to 51st an hour later to give the bike back.
