One more shot from November 13th. I happen to get lucky enough to capture a circling plane around Manhattan high above the 9/11 Memorial in Weehawken, NJ with the entire skyline in the background. If you look close you can see the new WTC lights in the extreme righthand corner...

Hi, all! I recently made a video tour of Times Square and a portion of Midtown. It takes you into the streets of Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel from Weehawken, NJ and then back into New Jersey across the George Washington Bridge. Along the way, you'll see 42nd Street, the Port Authority, Columbus Circle, Broadway, the Ed Sullivan Theater, Times Square, and the hundreds of LED/electronic billboards and ads. I hope you enjoy!

That was a great ride, thanks for posting the vid. Maybe you can do a Brookyln Bridge - Downtown - WTC - Holland Tunnel- Tour next time, that would be great. :cheers2:

New York City is wonderful in every season of the year, but look how much is awesome in Christmas time...
When I was filming I didn't know that one day I will make some videos, so the quality is not too good...

lol, we call it Christmas. But we also say Happy Holidays because there are numerous other religious holidays that take place around Christmas time.

I disagree with you. I'm not from NY, I'm from Barcelona and I can tell you that this vid make me want to cross the Atlantic ocean and visit this wonderful city.

Thanks for this vid Cosmoboy! Can you do another video of dowtown Manhattan?

I was giving a complement to the video:)

What I said is a common saying here in the US. I was basically saying "this video should definitely make people want to visit NYC"

The city looks great, as usual. It's a pity that the authorities and also the population don't see the importance of having an efficient and modern transportation system.
In my opinion the main problem of NY, is the awful transportation system is has (which pretty much the same case in whole country).

If only NY had a system of sort of underground trains that operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that stopped at important and busy intersections throughout the city, and then had a network of large vans that operated at street level that ferried people along similarly busy corridors but stopped with more frequency.

Troll.

The only country I have not been to in Western Europe is Portugal, I've been to most places more than once, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Munich, Barca, Rome, etc... Travelled on their subways, and they're much slower because they don't have express trains, and a majority don't operate 24 hours a day. Whatever, not worth my time.

At least in Europe people don't pee in the platforms and trains aren't offensive at first sight.

New York's trains are fine, it's the platforms that suck. But the character and iconic status of the NYC subway makes it much more appealing to me than anything in Europe. :)

There is nothing like crossing the Williamsburg Bridge at night by rail, anywhere in the world, except Tokyo.

It's a matter of taste I guess, but between these two, I would rather choose the second one:

Um, the systems in Paris, London and Berlin are also old and dirty. You're telling me Paris has a bad transit system? LOL!

The Paris system is quite a bit slower than that of NYC. London and Berlin have faster trains than NYC locals, but slower trains than NYC expresses. Speed is simply a function of station distance.

NYC has one of the best transit systems on the planet. Yes, there are many, many flaws, but, in Europe, only London and Paris have comparable systems.

And your pics are silly. You just found an old station in NYC and compared to a new station in Europe. The Paris lines are all old and dirty (except for Line 14) and the London lines, while better, are still prettty old and dirty.

And NYC trains are generally much newer than in Paris. Most Paris lines still run the 60's era trains, covered in graffitti and scratchitti. NYC has a few of the older trains on the C, and occasionally on the E, but they're all phased out by 2014. 95% of the trains in NYC don't look like your picture.

I just find it astonishing that you try to defend that NYC subway is quite decent compared to those in Europe. I wonder why there are so many taxis then if the subway is so great. It may be cheap but it is really disguisting, and there's no denying that. Stations are horrible to say the least apart from being old, dirty and completely outdated. I remeber seeing rats and people peeing on some stations, something completely unthinkable at any European transportation system. Also, trains present a complete lack of personality and they seem to have been done to carry animals instead of people.

You criticise Paris metro. I admit it is quite old but it is being refurbished and they are working hard on it. Some lines are incredibly modern and you can find awesome stations along the network. Apart from that it is one of the most rapid transportation systems worldwide.

New York subway can not be compared to any European transportation system of its kind, and it's a real pity because a city like New York deserves much better than that (the only positive feature it presents is that it works 24/7 but it's still a crap because of the poor infrastructure).

Cheers.

Manhattan, great to look at from the air, though somewhat disappointing at ground level:

http://favim.com/orig/201105/21/beautiful-big-apple-city-manhattan-new-york-new-york-city-Favim.com-51321.jpg

You do, however, come across some gems every now and again:

A little GIF I made of this Midtown view from ESB, 1972 and 2010.

Credits to the original images: Eric Hardy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/erichardyuk/4767833413) and mbell1975 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mbell1975/4891014746/)

http://makeagif.com/media/5-13-2012/CuZ91N.gif (http://www.makeagif.com/CuZ91N)

P.S. For sure, there are older pics of the same view that show a more drastic change in the skyline, it's just that these two fit each other perfectly because they were shot at extremely identical angles.

I wonder if that explains why the cladding looked so similar to the ugly old telephone building by the brooklyn bridge.
