Manila-X November 3rd, 2011, 02:26 PM Hindi naman requirement na super-lit ang skyline ng Makati at night. It's an Asian thing, hindi kelangan gumaya.
The world's most famous skyline at night:
Makati is an Asian city!
It is usually Chinese cities that have these super animated skylines. But if you go to Tokyo for example, the city's lighting scheme in skyscrapers are just the usual. The Tokyo Tower though has some descent lighting.
http://getjapanonline.com/wp-content/uploads/wppa/6.jpg
As for NY, you are only showing part of its huge skyline. You missed out its most iconic skyscrapers, The Empire State Building which has some impressive lighting scheme at night especially when there is a special event like X-Mas, Independence Day and so on.
http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/7/2009/09/empire_state.jpg
Even 1 WTC has its own unique lighting scheme as well.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/09/09/article-2035207-0DC87FCD00000578-43_634x862.jpg
And of course, you have the 2 beams to remember the WTC.
http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrdcwsrMQ71qzss4xo1_500.jpg
In fact, NY does not need those animated light effect in skyscraper nor The Symphony of Lights that HK has. Because it is already bright and animated at street level especially in places like Times Square.

As for Makati, lets keep the skyline the way it is though have a little creativity in some scrapers like The Enterprise for example and also RCBC. There is already some nice lighting at street level such as the LED billboards and the neon lights in The P. Burgos area.

tyronne November 4th, 2011, 01:18 AM Yup, I like ABS-CBN's twinkling lights last year, too!
Just thought of it now, I've seen some buildings / structures around Metro Manila that has some nice lighting scheme with some buildings using interchangeable colors.
You have landmarks such as The QC Memorial Circle and the globe in Mall of Asia.

Nakikisali na siguro sa Earth Hour. For me, I'm happy knowing that there's still christmassy to expect in Makati like these lights.
Manila-X November 6th, 2011, 07:14 AM Here is a panoramic shot I took of Metro Manila (including Makati) during Earth Hour. It is a bit dimmer compared to the usual cityscape @ night.

Yeah, it was a great opportunity for me to take photos since there weren't too many people around the Makati CBD. The downside is that I had to walk up and down the underpasses - the escalators weren't working. Oh well, instant exercise.
Makati is definitely a walkable city! I love the paved sidewalks in Ayala Ave!
I agree! I had no problems walking from Chino Roces (Pasong Tamo) to Paseo de Roxas. The sidewalks are wide enough except for a short length along Gil Puyat (Buendia). As shallow as it sounds, I enjoy passing through the underpasses in the Makati CBD since it looks orderly, unlike foot bridges which can be a wee bit unsightly.

derf November 8th, 2011, 09:52 AM Ayala is still not commuter nor pedestrian-friendly. When coming from the MRT and you want to take the bus going to lets say Gil Puyat, You have to walk so far up to the PSE to take the bus. I think it would be better if they make the stop in front of Glorietta as the loading station, and PSE as unloading. Another challenge is to cross from PSE side Ayala Avenue to Glorrietta side of Ayala. You have to cross the underpass two times. Once by crossing Ayala and the other by crossing Makati ave. These two underpasses are not connected for some strange reasons.

Compared to other parts of Metro Manila it is pedestrian friendly. The underpass crossing Ayala and Makati Aves may be a bit of a problem but at least it is there than none.

ironclad17 November 8th, 2011, 04:58 PM AFAIK the land area of Fort Bonifacio is 254-hectares all-in-all..correct me if i'm wrong..
any idea guys on how big is Makati CBD?hehehe..
derf November 8th, 2011, 05:01 PM Compared to other parts of Metro Manila it is pedestrian friendly. The underpass crossing Ayala and Makati Aves may be a bit of a problem but at least it is there than none.
Sabagay it is true that Ayala is ok compared to other parts of MM. But I'd rather that they fix that portion of the underpass because it is a challenge for someone with arthritic knees and back to be going up and down the underpasses twice in crossing just one intersection, especially during times that the escalator going up doesnt work. Patay tayo diyan! Pero overall i have to agree that makati cbd is one of the better places in the philippines. But global city is surely not far behind.

Lucio Tan doesn't have ANY stake in BGC.
BGC is owned by Ayala Land and Greenfield Holdings of the Campos family.
Megaworld is the biggest landowner (more than 90 hectares)in Fort Bonifacio owning a portion of Forbestown, North Boni, Mckinley Hill and Jusmag.
Ayala Land has been the most aggressive in BGC with Avida Cityflex, 34 th st, High Street South and Serendra.
BGC is the most walkable CBD in the Philippines.
Ayala Center and Makati CBD is still the premier CBD in the Philippines.

Ayala Center is more a shopping destination than a CBD.
I still think Makati is the most walkable CBD in Metro Manila. Also the fact it has elevated walkways that stretches from Greenbelt all the way near Rufino Tower. It is continious walking, no need to stop as a crossing and wait till the green man is on. Something The Fort lacks.
Now that is convenience.

try to read this one above.........................................
A lot of money
The Senate is conducting public hearings on the Marcos wealth, revolving around a $13.4-billion Swiss bank account once allegedly kept by Irene Marcos Araneta. Former Solicitor General Francisco Chavez is presenting the evidence.
''Chavez knows what he is talking about,'' said Tagle, adding that the Marcos wealth was so huge that even Marcos' widow Imelda did not know its exact worth.
If Tagle's $10-trillion estimate of the Marcos wealth were true, the Marcoses would be around 111 times richer than ''the richest man in the world,'' Microsoft chief Bill Gates. Forbes Magazine in June estimated Gates' fortune at $90 billion.
Ten trillion dollars is also 56 times more than the combined net worth of the top 50 billionaires in Asia, and almost 1,111 times the combined net worth of four Filipino billionaires who made it to the 1999 list.
The Marcos family was not on that list.
The amount is also equivalent to almost half of the combined GNP of the world's top 10 economies in 1998. It would take approximately 4500 people--counting uninterrupted at a rate of one dollar per second--70 years to count $10 trillion.
see, how much money has imelda marcos and rolex group

Eaton Square November 9th, 2011, 05:44 PM the makati cbd is expanding, so in terms of land area, the makati cbd and the fort have almost the same.

i think that the solution for the 'disappearing' sidewalk is to tax the business establisment owners who are using the sidewalk infront of their offices/restaurants etc as if it's their private parking. tax them for every square meter of the sidewalk they are using as private parking for their customers, the sidewalk afterall is a public domain.

The problem is, there are hundreds of commercial establishments with the same format with having the sidewalks used for parking if not, thousands or millions. In fact almost every commercial establishment in Metro Manila is like this even in some parts of central business districts including Makati.
The commercial establishments that deserved to be taxed are those who are totally occupying sidewalks as in forcing people to walk on the road.
On the other hand, the areas around Tomas Morato in QC have created an semi-impressive plan of having car parks right in front. Behind the barriers are sidewalks where pedestrians can walk through.

The location is more the edge of Makati, CBD wise rather than the heart.
But I'm surprised with the location, the fact there nearby call centres in that area especially one across Makati.
Good thing though it give the employees working there more alternative to food rather than the usual Mc Donalds, KFC, Starbucks, Tokyo Tokyo or Yellow Cab.

1st Phl Cheese Steak Shop opens Nov 21
(The Philippine Star) Updated November 14, 2011 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - The Philadelphia-style cheese steak sandwiches that Filipinos in California came to love will now be served fresh right here in the Philippines as the 30-year-old The Cheese Steak Shop officially opens its first branch in Makati on Nov. 21.
Margaret “Mai” Uy, a scion of a family of businessmen that has interest in various industries in the country, is confident that The Cheese Steak Shop will also be a hit here in the country, which is why she secured the exclusive license to bring The Cheese Steak Shop here.
Uy, then a student in Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, California, got her first taste of cheese steak sandwich at Walnut Creek 22 years ago.
The first Cheese Steak Shop Manila had its dry run on July 11, 2011 at the G/F The E-Hotel Makati, 906 A. Arnaiz St. (formerly Pasay Road ), San Lorenzo Village , Makati City . The official grand opening is scheduled on Nov. 21.

nice Zuellig Tower...
Eaton Square November 14th, 2011, 12:15 PM who would be the locators to the zuellig building?
zuellig building looks majestic!
Jefferyi November 14th, 2011, 09:24 PM the one negative thing i see about this zuellig tower is how it creates such a huge, glaring contrast when seen next to an aesthetically-displeasing building like the peninsula manila.
i really hope their clientele will patronize the future raffles+fairmont hotels more so they will be forced to renovate their ugly and dated appearance with either a glassy or a more classical design. for a hotel that's been in manila all these years, they've had plenty enough of time to realize they didn't exactly have an avant-garde exterior design!
OtAkAw November 15th, 2011, 05:00 AM ^^Manila Pen is 70's period architecture, it adds a nice mix to the CBD. What needs to go is the Atrium Building. Whatever period it came from, it's point blank fugly.

^^ That's right they should facelift Manila Peninsula although they have the most Beautiful Hotel lobby in the Philippines.
Ph Man November 15th, 2011, 05:18 AM Atrium will be a goner...soon. But please don't ask Manila Pen to go. :D As Otakaw said t's a nice piece of 70s architecture. It complements well with the modern international and art deco designs of the office buildings around.
Manila-X November 15th, 2011, 05:21 AM If there is one piece of land worth developing or even constructing a supertall, iconic building is the land right beside The Metrobank HQ, the one cornering Paseo De Roxas and Buendia.
Ph Man November 15th, 2011, 05:23 AM that...according to a signage on site is open to buyers. apparently nobody has bought the lot yet.
Manila-X November 15th, 2011, 06:13 AM Isn't that used to be RJ's property after buying it from PNB?
Ph Man November 15th, 2011, 06:49 AM The whole lot is still on sale according to that signage. Looks like the deal with RJ didn't go through. So we'll expect a different structure to rise up from that lot. Hopefully something nice.
Eaton Square November 15th, 2011, 07:17 AM the peninsula court should be the first to go. it's that diminutive, eyesore of a building between cocobank and first bank, across zuellig building, right at the corner of paseo de roxas and makati ave.
as for the manila pen, all it needs is a recladding and some redesigning of its exterior. actually, for me, it looks like a hospital (eg, philippine heart center), but i am not complaining. it still looks good!
the atrium has to go. last i heard, it's poorly maintained.
wesunsled November 15th, 2011, 08:37 AM the lot owned by PNB and now for sale is, that lot is already with eaton group, nobody intended to buy because they know that by auction or bidding it's always the tan group can buy, which eton has the primary intention to it by building the eton building just like in dalian, china.
they're makin money in bidding papers and auction fee's but in the end it goes to eton group
tan has rich history of manipulation!!!
Eaton Square November 15th, 2011, 12:21 PM i'm keeping my fingers crossed that mr. lucio tan would build his group's corporate office on that corner lot. mr. tan's corner paseo de roxas/buendia avenue lot could be the most expensive piece of land in the country next only to ayala's own corner lot on ayala avenue and makati avenue.

sloanesquare November 24th, 2011, 06:41 AM Murder mystery at One Roxas Triangle
SPY BITS By Babe G. Romualdez (The Philippine Star) Updated November 24, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments
Spy Bits received confidential information about an alleged murder that happened a few weeks ago at One Roxas Triangle, the lofty tower just a few meters away from the Mandarin Hotel. According to Spy Bits sources, a young man whose identity continues to be unknown was bludgeoned to death with a crowbar – but the corpse was only discovered a week after the murder when Roxas Triangle residents started smelling the foul odor coming from the unit where the decomposing body was discovered.
The Makati police is currently on top of the investigation but the alleged murder is reportedly being kept under wraps understandably since One Roxas Triangle is an exclusive condo building for the wealthy and famous. How the murder could have happened in a place where security and privacy are “more than just a promise, it’s a guarantee” continues to baffle investigators. Access is very difficult, and residents are equipped with a laser key system that also serves as an elevator switch that would bring them to their specific floors with a private elevator lobby. Even the utility and other staff go through screening every time they enter or leave the building.
Spy Bits also received reports about unusual things reportedly happening in the building. There’s one story about a wealthy socialite who was having her house renovated and temporarily stayed in her Roxas Triangle unit when she started experiencing “haunting activities,” for instance hearing footsteps entering her living room or the lights suddenly going on. But most disconcerting of all was when she woke up to find her eyebrows completely shaved. Distressed and disturbed, the wealthy socialite reportedly moved to a hotel nearby.
With all these unexplained things reportedly going on, some people are already starting to refer to One Roxas as the “Mystery Triangle.”

Went there to see for myself. It was nice in parts but when everything's all lit up at the same time it's extremely gaudy.

GUNDAM168 November 24th, 2011, 04:10 PM I don't know if it has something to do it with it but I think the Christmas Light Display in Ayala Triangle made the Christmas lights along Ayala Ave. a lot duller this year.

Most likely the victim knew the killer and gave them access to their unit, so all the security wont help in that situation, unlikely anyone would hear anything happening either because of how private the units are.
The second part of the article about the haunting activities is just silly and has nothing to do with a very serious crime.

They're issuing tickets because they're not allowed to park there and wait for passengers at daytime (they're only allowed at night). But they could load and unload passengers there anytime.

:) Don't mess up with these traffic enforcers. If you offer bribe, you would get higher fines.

can't wait to see the Trump, Stratford, Milano, and GE Centuria Medical Center towers at Century City, the Edades in Rockwell, and Acqua residences in Mandaluyong rising pretty soon. arguably, those towers will have a great impact on the metro manila skyline.
