View Full Version : Dallas Cowboys New Dome - Question
Carolina Blue September 21st, 2009, 04:03 AM I've seen this place on national TV twice now, for night games. One question, is there not a plan to light up the top of this thing???? Seems like a huge oversight to me. I'd think the top would look really nice lit up. This rendering below suggests perhaps it was always meant to be dark...

dollaztx September 21st, 2009, 06:40 PM Haven't heard anything. I guess it could use some lighting.
Bobdreamz September 21st, 2009, 06:46 PM I heard the price tag was $1.2 billion for the stadium. Who paid for it? Also isn't Arlington like a semi rural suburb of Dallas?

Arlington is technically a suburb of Fort Worth, but the city lies in the middle between Ft. Worth and Dallas. Arlington is not rural. The people of the city are paying for half of the stadium in taxes. Also, regarding the lighting. I don't think there was an intention to have lighting come out of the top like that. I think that was more like an artistic point of view of whomever rendered that pic, kinda like saying "hey look how bright it is."
Bobdreamz September 21st, 2009, 10:17 PM that's an insane of amount of money to be paying in taxes for a suburb! Miami just broke ground on the Marlins stadium and the entire county is paying for it in loans. I s arlington wealthy?

Arlington is nowhere near rural...it sits between Dallas and Fort Worth with a population of 375,000 - which is not all that far below Miami.

The stadium roof has no plans to be lit because then the night shots would take away from the open roof shot that you got to see last night.

Arlington is paying for 1/4 (365 Million) of the stadium. Jerry Jones paid for the other 3/4 out of his own pocket.
So far Arlington has already seen a boost in Sales all around the stadium and it is bringing much needed road improvements to the area.
I was at the game last night... AWESOME!!!!

No, what I was talking about is not represented in that rendering. I was talking about lighting the actual roof; where its dark at the top. I think the Super Dome used to have lights that lit up its roof top. But I can understand as one poster said about not lighting the roof given its a retractable stadium. However IMO something just looks off when you see it a night on TV.

Far from it, Arlington is an overgrown bedroom suburb of almost 370,000, largest city in the US without mass transportation because it's trailer trash citizens don't want a "minority mover" in their city limits. North and South Arlington are decent typical suburblike areas while the central part has it's share of big city problems ie urban blight and crime. Unlike many of Dallas' suburbs, Arlington has no major business center so besides entertainment, it does not have much to offer.
Edit: upon further inspection, Arlington is the largest city in the WORLD without mass transport.
Dale September 22nd, 2009, 03:35 AM Last night proved that with $1.2 billion you can build a big enough stadium for the Cowboys to lay an egg in it on opening night.
TU 'cane September 22nd, 2009, 03:46 AM ...
The city of Arlington barely passed a tax that will be with them for another 10 years at least to pay $375 million of it. Papa Jerry promised to foot the rest of the bill. And as for the hole not being lit up, there's a big o' star that shines on top of the video board.

No, The Giants are panicking more then us. We gave them 4 turn overs and they only won by 2 points. And their running game sucked.
Allot of teams dont win the official opener. Colts took 3 home games before they got a win in the new one last year.

The roof is a copy of the Texas Stadium roof back in Irving. At night all you see is black but in the middle of it is this bright hole and you see the Star and the field and the beam of light shooting out.

Tony Romo destroyed the Cowboys Sunday Night. Beat them all by himself.

I agree. The Giants didn't beat the Cowboys, Tony did.
Cannonized September 22nd, 2009, 10:28 PM Lighting a 14 acre convex surface is pretty much impossible. The only way they would have been able to do that is if they made the roof out of some translucent material and light it up from the inside.
TU 'cane September 23rd, 2009, 03:30 AM Well and it's not as if it's a permanently opened roof like Texas Stadium. Imo there's no need for lighting even if that rendering suggested so.
Ganis September 23rd, 2009, 05:50 AM rendering never suggested it.
Sean in New Orleans September 23rd, 2009, 06:06 AM It is BY FAR the most fabulous NFL stadium...it is truly ahead of its' time. But, I still don't like the big television screen that is in the way and is not that fan friendly, IMO. As stated, I LOVE electronics (and the most advanced) in any stadium for a sports experience, but, that thing is too big to be over the field and I think it will lose its WOW factor pretty quick. They've already had footballs hit that thing with punts and the NFL had a group of individuals at the Giants game to monitor "the situation," of footballs hitting the bottom of the screen. Love the huge TV, but, hate the location. It should be on the sidelines not above the action. But, that stadium is incredible....no doubts. That is a gem for football fans in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Seriously. I don't like the parking, though. I believe in layered parking and providing more green space, a park, or a huge FAN ZONE for tailgating other than doing it on a concrete parking lot.
Hia-leah JDM September 23rd, 2009, 09:11 AM It sure is fabulous.
Ganis September 24th, 2009, 06:10 AM It sure is fabulous.
could not have said it better my self.
Also there is a reason for the screen where it is (so you dont have to look alllll the way across the stadium to see the re-plays) and I was at the game, no punts came close and It made watching the punts fun.
Velvetj September 25th, 2009, 03:40 AM That Stadium is FANTASTIC and cannot be denied! Gotta love that "high quality/the best/X factor " spirit of things done in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area.
Manitopiaaa September 27th, 2009, 09:18 PM This stadium is amazing!!! What a monstrosity. Congrats!
Ganis September 27th, 2009, 11:34 PM ok, finally got around to uploading some of my pics. My camera went dead right as i went in to the stadium so i need to get the rest of my pics off my friends camera.
