According to Villa officials, the defensive stalwart left last Wednesday for trials with the Copenhagen-based club for a period of two weeks. “The club granted him the opportunity,” Sula Kato, the club’s coach confirmed. “He will be in Denmark for two weeks and then report back. We hope he passes his trials successfully.” Guma was scheduled to serve a two match league suspension after assaulting a match official in a super league game against Victors FC recently. ^^^^^^ another Ugandan player making the trip to Europe we have sent loads of player abroad this year Saddam juma ,2 proline fc youth player 18 got signed to a Portuguese team and now guma. great. ^^^^^^ Express FC is sh464m richer Wednesday, 8th December, 2010 E-mail article Print article http://www.newvision.co.ug/NP/1291832524zulu.jpg HOT ASSET: Express mid-fielder Ntambi in action before he left for Vietnam where he is going to earn his team good money to join paid ranks By James Bakama EXPRESS Football Club are set to earn big from the sale of players to the far east. The Red Eagles have sealed a $200,000 (sh464m) deal for midfielder Crysestom Ntambi to Vietnamese premier league club Navi Bank FC of Saigon. “The Vietnamese were simply too impressed by Ntambi. They immediately signed after watching him in action,” said Express boss Kavuma Kabenge. The club should earn even more should Edrisa Kaye, Sulaiman Jjingo, Godfrey Kizito and Willy Kavuma pass trials. Kaye is having trials at another Vietnamese top league side Banang FC. Jjingo and Kizito are being tested by Chomburi FC in Thailand while Kavuma is trying out his luck with second division side Hotmin FC. The Ugandans were spotted during an Express tour of the Far East where the team participated in competitions in Vietnam and Thailand. “I appeal to other Ugandan clubs to also exploit such opportunities. The future lies in Asia. It was no accident for Russia and Qatar to be chosen as the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts,” said Kabenge. A similar tour by KCC FC in 2009 ended with Moses Oloya and Asuman Buyinza being signed by Vietnamese sides. Buyinza is reported to be earning $8,000 (sh16m) a month while Oloya gets $7000(sh14m). Posted Thursday, December 16 2010 at 16:41 The female football fan has certainly turned full circle. From the mid 19th Century, when she was so valued as to be admitted free, to now being valued for adding colour and verve to male-dominated sports, it has been a bumpy ride in a continent that is only slowly shedding its patriarchal dominance in ordinary cause of events. However, if recent trends in the region are anything to go by, she is now here to stay, with stadium turnstiles steadily providing evidence of a resurgence of interest. Often a fickle specimen, the female fan has been hard to keep track of: Now you see her, now you don’t. It would, however, be wrong to blame her for her fluctuating presence in African stadiums, given the scale of odds that have been stacked against her, not least societal responsibilities and elements such as hooliganism. The recent World Cup in South Africa may have done wonders for her image, but despite Africa’s relative shorter history of the game, evidence suggests that it has been a strong trend bubbling under the surface for years before. Matches, from Kenya to Botswana to Ghana, now regularly play host to a bevy of colourful and distinctively feminine fans, a far cry from the time when superstitious societies would not let them into football stadiums because they were “bad luck”. A cursory look this year suggests a new upturn in the interest cycle all across Africa. Kenya’s football premier league is the latest attraction for newly won female fans, with games involving the national team and the top two teams proving a magnet for loud — and skimpily dressed — fans. Mismanagement of the game and hooliganism had kept them away for the better part of the last decade. But television and corporate sponsorship money have made the game more glamorous and glitzy — a huge attraction for the country’s female fans — both traditional and urbane. But if Kenya is witnessing a resurgence, the female football fan has been a fixture in Botswana, not least of all as witnessed by their taking over the country’s national stadium for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Their presence could be a factor in the Zebras’ — the national football team — astonishing performance, where they are currently six points clear in a group involving Tunisia, who they have beaten home and away. In Gaborone correspondent hordes of young women are the demographic representation of the typical female fan, with a few soccer moms thrown in. And, unlike many other countries, these are often unaccompanied. They can be found in the rowdier stands such as the famous “Russia” section of the National Stadium in Gaborone, “dancing, singing and hurling insults... just like men”. It is a situation replicated in Malawi, where female fans form a big proportion of callers to popular radio show host Jean Chalungama’s Power FM 101. “In the early 2000s, many matches involving domestic clubs like MTL Wanderers and Bullets FC often ended in violence, with many innocent spectators getting injured and some losing valuables like cell phones or money in the process,” says Football Association of Malawi commercial and media manager Casper Jangale. “This discouraged women and children from going to the stadia to watch football matches.” Jangale estimates the number of women watching high profile matches at the 40,000-seater Kamuzu stadium, the main sports facility, at 25 per cent. Neighbouring Zambia has not been spared the invasion either, where it is trendy to play football, no doubt championed by the fact that both First Lady Thandiwe Banda; and Irene Kunda, the wife of the vice-president, are regularly photographed on pitches playing the game. In its campaign for the London 2012 tournament, the Zambia Under-23 women’s national football team, under the tutelage of female head coach Enala Simbeya, beat the Botswana side 4-1 in Gaborone and 2-1 in Lusaka, attracting praise, especially from women groups. “This victory is important, not only for the team members or the football society, but for the entire sports sector. It demonstrates that it is possible to have an all-female crew and achieve success,” said Matilda Mwaba, executive director of NOWSPAR, an organisation advocating women’s participation in sports. It is a trend that is both under threat and also buoyed by the popular English Premier League. Young women in capitals from Nairobi, Lusaka, Accra, Abidjan to Kinshasa are common fixtures in pubs and sports bars. Many derive their drive and passion from the league, but it is also acting as a pull factor, preventing them from attending live games. Our Ghana correspondent, Francis Kokutse, says female fans in the west African country are torn between attending local football and watching European leagues, with many in supporters clubs. Interestingly, in Nigeria, support among female fans is not as strong as would be expected, given the country’s near-fanatical following of football. In Africa’s most populous nation, worryingly, even female sports writers are an endangered species. But football is not the only sport facing a wave of female enthusiasm. On the Indian Ocean of Madagascar, rugby has arguably a bigger following than football, with as many as 10 female clubs in the capital Antananarivo alone. Further north, East African neighbours Uganda and Kenya also boast a huge following of female rugby fans, with the annual Safaricom national rugby tournament a huge draw for the spectators. Kenya’s international growth in the national sevens game has also seen support among women reach stratospheric levels. However, culture is still a stumbling block to bigger female crowds, especially in the Muslim countries of North Africa. This publication’s Algiers correspondent Laeed Zaghlami says that, while there are no restrictions, the Algerian society is still largely conservative. There has, however, been a marked rise in interest since the country’s qualification for the 2010 World Cup finals. Britain is football’s microcosm of the female football fan, with close to a third of crowds being female. While African sports have a long way to ratchet up such numbers, there can be no denying that the continent’s women are making up ground fast. u.g boy December 27th, 2010, 11:19 PM Player exodus depletes Uganda Cranes E-mail article Print article By Fred Kaweesi, Swalley Kenyi and Norman Katende BOBBY Williamson will need to reconstruct the skeleton of the local-based Cranes team ahead of the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) following the impending departure of several first team players to professional football. The Scot will have to find suitable replacements for attacking players Tony Odur, Sula Matovu, Henry Kisekka, whose moves to Denmark, Ethiopia and Vietnam mean the three will be ineligible for the tournament due in Sudan in February. With Steven Bengo and Godfrey Walusimbi also close to joining English League One side Leyton Orient most likely during the mid-season transfers next month, the Cranes will have just five members left from the first team that helped Uganda qualify for the CHAN tournament. Williamson’s plans of assembling an experienced CHAN quad were not helped by the untimely three-month suspension of Mike Sserumagga. The left-footed midfielder, whose wonder free-kick against Kenya in the return leg of the CHAN qualifiers earned Cranes qualification on the away-goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate, was suspended by Bunamwaya after absconding from duty. Just like Sserumagga, Proline midfielder Matovu who joins Ethiopian champions St George on a six-month loan move, will be missed. According to club secretary William Bakkabulindi, Matovu will under the watchful eyes of Italian coach Guisseppe Dossena, have the chance of playing in the Africa Champions League. “Matovu has attracted many proposals from clubs all over the world but the Proline technical department believes he still needs a lot of guidance and close supervision in order to protect his talent,” Bakkabulindi explained their decision to loan the player to St George. Williamson has opted for URA strikers Hamis ‘Diego’ Kizza and Augustine Nsumba and Caesar Okhuti of Bunamwaya as replacements for Odur, Kisekka and Matovu. “It is good for many players to play professional football. In fact coaches should be able to give them a chance to go for trials and also join the professional ranks. It will help them mature in their game but also boost their income,” Williamson stated after Monday’s training at Nakivubo stadium. This comes after many of the local stars landed deals with foreign clubs yet the Chan championship is only eligible for home-based players. Proline have given their winger Suleiman Matovu alias Malouda the blessings to join Ethiopian giants St. George for a six-month loan move while strikers, Tony Odur - last season’s league top scorer with Bunnamwaya and Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) forward Henry Kisekka left Sunday night for semi-professional trials in Vietnam. “I believe in the depth of this league, so as a technical team we shall look around for talent and assemble a competitive side for Chan,” said Williamson. Uganda stopped Burundi and eliminated arch-foes Kenya to qualify for the event which offers Uganda a chance to play in a continental showpiece for the first time in 33 years. Walusimbi to leave Also on their way out are defender Godfrey Walusimbi (Bunnamwaya) and midfielder Steven Bengo. The pair is scheduled to leave this week for professional trials with English League One side Leyton Orient. “I am aware both players are chasing visas to UK and I can’t stop anyone sourcing for exposure,” the Scot added. Express midfielder Noah Ssemakula is also expected to leave for trials in Vietnam while URA’s winger Dan Wagaluka is set to join St. George at the turn of the New Year. And during yesterday’s training session at Nakivubo, Bobby drafted some new faces into the squad that is preparing for the inaugural Nile Basin tournament in Egypt next month. URA’s duo of midfielder Augustine Nsumba and striker Hamis Kizza plus Bunnamwaya forward Caesar Okhuti were part of the work out. kijana December 28th, 2010, 05:22 PM does anyone know if there are any proposals to build a hall of fame center for kenyan athletes??? or do we have one that exists already? because we have so have and had so many legendary athletes... He had earlier met FUFA CEO Watson AFTER a prolonged spell of uncertainty as to whether Savio Nsereko will ever represent Uganda in major football competitions, the 21-year-old put all doubts to rest after declaring his beloved interests in the Cranes. By FRED KAWEESI AFTER a spell of uncertainty as to whether Savio Nsereko will ever represent Uganda in major soccer competitions, the 21-year-old put all doubts to rest after declaring his beloved interests in the Cranes. In fact, the youngster, who turns out for Italian giants Fiorentina could be considered for the crucial 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau in March, if he decides so. “I talked at length with the FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and it’s up to me now,” Nsereko told the New Vision at Sheraton Hotel on Monday. “I just need sometime to understand a few things here. I have had a very good time since I came around. I really love the weather. I came to see what the future holds and whether there are serious projects that direct to a promising future in football here. “I want to assess the situation before making up my mind. But one thing I can tell you is I am Ugandan, I feel Ugandan and would want to represent my country,” he added. Although Nsereko won the 2008 UEFA European Under-19 soccer championship with Germany and featured for the Germany Under-20 youth team at the 2008–09 and 2009–10 Four Nation tournaments, he is still eligible because he has not featured for the Germany senior side. That the Ugandan parliament also passed a law that provides for dual citizenship makes it even much easier for him. Options for Cranes If Nsereko does eventually join the team, it means coach Bobby Williamson will be blessed with a youngster whose attacking abilities can comfortably play on the left and right of midfield or as a second striker in his preferred 4-3-3 formation. With David Obua often fielded as a central attacking player, Nsereko would most certainly serve the team well on the left-side of midfield, where Steven Bengo and Mike Sserumaga have been inconsistent. “I have closely monitored Ibrahim Sekagya (Red Bull Salzburg) and David Obua (Hearts),” he hinted. “There seems to be plenty of talent here. Players need discipline and guidance to make it to the top. They need to be protected right from the young age brackets.” Life at Fiorentina Nsereko, who was born in Kampala and left the country at the age of two, started his career at 1860 Munich in Germany. He was later signed by Italian side Brescia before joining Premiership outfit West Ham United for £9m in 2009 on a four and a half year contract. He however failed to settle in. “I arrived when I was still young and yet the pressure to lift the club was high. There was so much responsibility and expectation at the time. “Everything is different at Fiorentina, it’s a very competitive team. I have been injured but will be back stronger. “My dream is to play for Arsenal one day. “Thierry Henry was my idol. He was fast, direct and good on the ball and those are attributes I am working on. Nsereko, who comes from a family of five children, is currently on loan back at 1860 Munich. u.g boy January 5th, 2011, 06:46 PM Harambee Stars edge out Sudan by James Wokabi 05 January 2011, 19:15 Harambee Stars registered their first win in four months beating Sudan 1-0 in the opening match of the Nile Basin tournament in Egypt on Wednesday. Combative midfielder Collins Okoth scored the all important goal from the spot on 17th minute to give stand in Coach Zedekiah Otieno a winning start in his reign as coach at the Arab Contractors stadium. Gor Mahia’s Kevin Omondi was brought down and his club-mate stepped up to convert the penalty and pip their heavily fancied opponents. The win brings to a halt a six game winless streak as Stars went into the match on the back of a horrible run having lost five of their last six matches including all three matches at the 2010 Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup. You have to go back to August for the last Stars won a match- a 3-0 win over Ethiopia in a friendly in Addis Ababa. Making his debut as head coach Otieno made several changes introducing Francis Ochieng, Okoth, Eric Masika and Mukaisi into his line up as he faced the fancied Sudanese side. Tusker forward Mukaisi spurned an early opportunity failing top turn in a Chris Litswa freekick. Goalkeeper Francis Ochieng who was making a comeback in the national team after a long hiatus was the busier of the two keepers foiling Hathim Mustafa on 12 minutes. The burly keeper was called upon again ten minutes later pulling off another save to keep out a Karika Mudasir. Eric Masika who was making his debut for Stars rescued the East Africans on the hour mark when he cleared a Mudasir shot off the line with Ochieng beaten. Kisumu Ndogo January 21st, 2011, 07:23 PM LIVERPOOL IN CRISIS Liverpool in crisis! Now struggling giants face nine-point deduction if parent company goes into administration By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 2:17 PM on 8th October 2010 Liverpool seem likely to face a nine point deduction if parent company Kop Holdings goes into administration. If a parent company insolvency is caused by the club's management league rules say a points deduction could be the result. Co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett could well find it difficult to argue that the running of the club has not affected the holding company. There could be trouble ahead: Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks Liverpool could enter administration if a sale to the owners of the Boston Red Sox is not completed by next Friday. If Hicks and Gillett manage to block a takeover of the club by New England Sports Ventures (NESV), their holding company could be put into administration by the Royal Bank of Scotland as a result of their £280m debts. And the BBC are reporting that if that happens the struggling club could be penalised where it hurts most, on the pitch. What's going on? Liverpool have had a terrible start to the season Any points loss would be a huge blow for Liverpool, who have had a dreadful first two months of the season. The Merseysiders have picked up seven points from their first six matches of the Premier League, and are in the relegation zone. As I left the French pub in Lille where I enjoyed the game tonight, I just couldn’t stop thinking about how well we played, about how well Laurent Koscielny played – my man of the match – about how important this win is for the future and of course how proud I am of the lads, which was ultimately what I asked for, yesterday, in the preview. Robin van Persie’s game could be easily compared to Lionel Messi’s. The Argentinean wasted at least three clear chances during the game but managed to create that something special with which the Spaniards took the lead. Robin also wasted chances but was strong enough to recover and go for goal from a tight angle clearly showing how three missed chances did not kill his confidence, clearly showing that he was the man we were missing last season. Also superb were Theo and Jack. I was a little bit disappointed to see Theo abandon the pitch as he was dangerous whenever on the ball and the only one who was causing damage to the Barca back four when they were enjoying plenty of possession in the first half. And Jack, oh well, we already knew how good he is but doing it against Wolves is one thing, doing it against the side considered by many as the best in the world means he’s special indeed. As for Emmanuel Eboue, the player we were all skeptical about before kick-off, well he was as shaky as many predicted but considering who we were facing and considering this was his first game for a long time, we should consider ourselves satisfied although there was some trouble going on on the opposite flank. To conclude, Barcelona should be given credit as well. They came at the Emirates with no fear at all, took full advantage of our risky high line, took the lead and had an onside goal(Messi clearly behind the ball) disallowed for no reason. But, today’s win will indeed go down in the history book of Arsenal Football Club as we however should know that this is just the beginning of a long, difficult journey towards success. Arsenal Interactive, as a final note, will be updated on Friday as I have no access to its database from where I am. It’s a shame I know, not being able to rate the players after such a formidable game but I will do my best to set everything up on Friday evening. Player Ratings Szczesny: 7,5 – Mature and solid performance from our number one who produced important saves especially in the second half. Djourou: 7 – Not as brilliant as his partner at the back but considering the pressure we were under in the first half, Johan did well. Koscielny: 9 – Guilty of failing to play the offside trap properly in the first half allowing Messi through but that was the only mistake of his game. A beast in the defensive department and superb in making that extra step forward to anticipate in midfield. Clichy: 6,5 – I am adding a 0.5 for the assist to Robin for our first goal. Defensively, he was not at his best as Barcelona took full advantage of his weaknesses especially when they went on to score with Gael clearly not realising he was the one to keep Villa onside. Eboue: 6 – Some poor moments, especially in the first half but let’s face it, I was expecting a lot of trouble coming from the left wing. Luckily, we survived. Wilshere: 9 – Almost impossible to find the right words to describe this 19-year old. Saying he’s the future would be foolish because yes he is the future but also the present. Phenomenal. Song: 6,5 – Struggled in midfield but never gave up. Should understand from Koscielny how to anticipate Lionel Messi as he was rightly booked for a nasty challenge. Nasri: 7 – I admit I was worried to see him start but luckily, Samir was sharp and ready for the battle. Started slowly but recovered well and improved as the game went on as he closed his very good performance with the pass for Andrey’s second. Fabregas: 6,5 – Below-par performance from the captain who took a lot of wrong decisions in the first half. But even when not at his best, and we all can understand why tonight, he can still produce magic, like the chip for Robin’s first chance of the game and the long pass to Samir who went on to assist Andrey for our second. Walcott: 7,5 – Impressed. By many – including myself – usually considered as an impact player. But Theo is showing that he can be good from the very first minute of the game. Brilliant run ended with Robin’s effort saved by Valdes in the first part of the game and constant thread down the right. van Persie: 7 – I was worried after he missed the third chance of his game as all of them fell on his left foot. But, as I said in the introduction, the Dutchman was not affected by the misses as he went on to score one of this season’s most important goals. (Subs) Bendtner: 6 – Good performance from the big Dane who came on to add that extra steel to our offensive department. Arshavin: 7 – He came on, he scored, he almost ruined it in the end. I knew Andrey was back and I picked him to shine tonight. I must admit I was a little bit disappointed to see him on the bench but this goal shows that he means business. By Salvatore Landolina Feb 19, 2011 8:14:00 AM Find the best odds and bet on the Premier League. Inter will be making their case for a reformation of the front line in the summer when they plan a double swoop on Arsenal's Robin Van Persie and Andrey Arshavin. Il Corriere dello Sport claims the duo, who combined to raise Arsenal's Champions League hopes against Barcelona in Wednesday's 2-1 win, are back on Inter's radar. Despite investing heavily on Giampaolo Pazzini in the winter, the Nerazzurri are hoping to bolster their attack with experience. Diego Milito's struggle for fitness and form following last season's campaign has led directors to look for a turnaround. And they are ready to offer the Gunners €50 million for both men. Arsene Wenger is famous for keeping his eye trained on young players, meaning that Arshavin, 29, and Van Persie, 27, could leave if the money is right. http://www.goal.com/ Indusriver February 23rd, 2011, 06:11 AM kenya vs pakistan Malaika254 February 23rd, 2011, 03:33 PM Is anyone watching the cricket game? It pits the best of each nation against each other, giving great teams from small leagues and the traditional giants alike a chance to showcase their skills on the biggest stage. Of course, it is always more likely that the giants will emerge victorious, and this year, as the Round of 16 gets underway, I'd con sider Copenhagen, Valencia, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Marseille, Schalke and Tottenham Hotspur to have virtually no chance of winning the competition. Some of those are simply too weak and ripe for early elimination (Roma, Marseille) while others are talented but too inexperienced (Tottenham, Shakhtar). That leaves Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lyon, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea with a legitimate shot at the title. Of course, a small problem emerges: Inter vs. Bayern, Lyon vs. Real Madrid and Arsenal vs. Barcelona are all first round matchups, meaning three of the squads get eliminated right off the bat. From those games, I'd go with Inter, Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Inter pick is rather easy — Bayern has been up and down the whole season, and Inter has been re-energized under new coach Leonardo. Madrid and Barcelona, though, are much tougher picks, especially given their mediocre results in the first legs of the round (Madrid: 1-1 Lyon; Barcelona: 1-2 Arsenal). Coaching here will be key. Madrid manager José Mourinho is a master at doing what is necessary to win, and Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola not only is a first-class tactician, but also has the greatest player in the world, Lionel Messi, at his disposal (not to mention the leadership of defender Carles Puyol and his crazy hair). In the end, that'll be enough for the Spanish sides. So now there's Inter Milan, AC Milan (who will beat Tottenham, even without that headbutting, bat$%@! crazy Gennaro Gattuso), Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea. Of these teams, Chelsea is by far the easiest one to weed out. They will skate past their easy first-round battle with Copenhagen, but after that, the age, slowness and lack of depth of their squad will really show. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them get embarrassed by four or five goals against a team like Barcelona since they've shown about as much consistency this year as the Jabulani World Cup ball. That leaves only the Milan clubs, the Spanish giants and the Red Devils still standing. Yet I believe Inter, AC Milan and Manchester United will all fail for the same reason — an over-reliance on one creative forward who masks age and lack of creativity in the rest of the team. Players like Cambiasso, Zanetti, Gattuso, Seedorf, Giggs and Scholes are stalwarts and great veterans, but they are possession players now — they are no longer the ones who make that marauding run or killer pass through the defense for the key goal. Ibrahimovic, Eto'o and Rooney are brilliant strikers, but even they don't have enough ability to power their teams to the title. So, in my estimation, Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet in the final. Guardiola vs. Mourinho, Messi vs. Ronaldo, Catalonia vs. Madrid — El Clásico would play out on the grandest stage. And unfortunately for Los Merengues, I can't see anything but a repeat of the meetings between these two teams over the last three years — in other words, an emphatic Barcelona victory. Madrid may have Ronaldo and Mourinho, but Barcelona has the better team, and in the end, Messi and Co. will lift the European Cup for the third time in five years. But the board has been rejected by the Julius Ochiel office which was mandated by Football Kenya Limited to continue running the affairs of AFC Leopards until new elections are held mid this season. Sports Minister Paul Otuoma said at a press conference on Wednesday the board will take over the management of the club immediately before organising for fresh election to be conducted within 60 days. The board is composed of 10 members including the five officials under the chairmanship of Gordon Oluoch, who oversaw the botched elections this month. The others are Richard Ekhalie, Joram Ondere, Jacknelson Wamboka, Henry Shihemi, Charles Bukeko, Dan Shikanda, Lydia Obwaka, Fredrick Nasiche and Bernard Wamalwa who will act as legal advisor. Otuoma said the board will pick who to head which position including that of the chairman. But Ochiel vowed not to let this happen saying such an action was a threat to the club’s survival. Ended in chaos “AFC Leopards is a society under the Society’s Act and cannot be directed and supervised by the Sports Ministry. “It is tantamount to government interference which is unacceptable in football,” Ochiel said. Leopards held two inconclusive elections, marred by disputes and violence in January 16 and on February 13 that ended in chaos with different factions claiming victory. This led to the immediate former office headed by Ochiel to last week announce that in the absence of a concluded election they would remain in office pending fresh elections within four months under a new constitution. Their position was backed by Football Kenya Limited, who helped to reconcile the feuding between Ochiel and Robert Asembo, now reinstated as club secretary. But Otuoma dismissed the development saying the failure of the elections “left an untenable vacuum in the club leadership”. Adequate security “After due consultation with the office of the Registrar General my ministry has been given due mandate to form an interim body to oversee the day-to-day management of the club and to oversee its election,” Otuoma said. Otuoma blamed criminal activities within a section of the club who led to the aborted election saying certain aspirants who senses they were going to lose decided to unleash chaos. “We will ensure that the next elections have adequate security,” Otuoma said. Speaking at the same press conference Oluoch, who is also the Sports Commissioner, said they will use the same registry used in the aborted February 13 to conduct elections. “We will not allow any new aspirants to be added to the list and we will be open the registry to the public for viewing,” Oluoch said. He however added that those aspirants who might wish to step down from the race were free to do so. Ochiel accused the Oluoch’s led board of mismanaging the elections and demanded it account the Sh2 million it had collected from Leopard’s members during the electoral process. The decision to award Robin van Persie a second yellow card was almost inexplicable, but that should not disguise the fact that Barcelona was massively superior over the two legs. The Catalans were better for three-quarters of the first game, and for all of the second and while Arsenal can legitimately argue that losing Van Persie was a devastating blow to its morale, and perhaps prevented them adopting a more attacking game in the latter stages,it is also true that Arsene Wenger's men failed to muster a single shot in the second leg, that Lionel Messi had a legitimate goal ruled out in the first game, and that Messi should have had a penalty in the first half of the second leg. Arsenal sat much deeper than it had in the first leg, with Van Persie very much the lone forward as Tomas Rosicky and Samir Nasri played deeper on the flanks. Nasri in particular came to appear, as Samuel Eto'o had against Barcelona in the semifinal last season, almost as an auxiliary fullback. There was a lack of dynamism to Arsenal's play, perhaps in part because the more compressed formation interrupted its usual flow and fluency, in part because Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas were clearly far from fully fit, but mainly because Barcelona drove them back. With Barcelona's fullbacks able to push forward unopposed into midfield, the game tended to be played a long way from their goal, which meant the makeshift center-back pairing of Eric Abidal and Sergio Busquets was barely tested; a shame for Arsenal, because when it did threaten them, they looked far from secure. Barcelona wasn't at its most devastating either, wasteful in attacking positions while the deployment of Javier Mascherano in front of the back four highlighted just how good Busquets is in that position, as though he is the metronome that keeps everybody else in rhythm. The virtues of Mascherano, though, were shown in his superb last-ditch challenge to deny Nicklas Bendtner late on when it seemed Bendtner might steal an implausible away-goals win. The accusation in Marca that Arsenal "betrayed their style" was perhaps harsh in the circumstances, but Arsene Wenger's side was so far below its usual level that the game felt anti-climactic. The injuries probably played their part in that, but Barca must take credit too for the consistency and energy of its pressing. Arsenal wasn't allowed to settle, and this remains the biggest difference between the sides. Barca presses so well that when it does lose the ball, it tends to win it back quickly, and it is so good in possession that it has to press far less than its opponents, allowing it to do so at greater intensity and for far longer. The effect is that opponents become worn out, constantly having to hound Barca, while never being allowed easy possession itself. Jose Mourinho commonly spoke at Chelsea of the need to "rest with the ball;" against Barcelona it's impossible. There can at times be something almost attritional about the way Barca plays, in that it forces opponents into errors, such as the misplaced Fabregas backheel that led to Messi's opening goal, or Laurent Koscielny's clumsy challenge that led to the penalty for the third. Counter-intuitively, there is something highly pragmatic about its short-passing, possession-based approach. The 20-year-old Mugabe, who became the only Ugandan in over 30 years to win the Kenya Open last year, showed it was no fluke when he humbled local hero Allan Cooper by 6-2 6-2 to take home the sh2.5m top cash prize. The hitherto domineering Kenyans were convinced beyond doubt after Cooper fell with relative ease. “I don’t think there is anybody who can beat Mugabe in East Africa. The high altitude in Nairobi also suits his style because the ball is really fast,” tournament referee Patrick Kamuhya told he New Vision by telephone. That Mugabe crushed Cooper in just 55 minutes, mesmerized local spectators who immediately turned to the women’s final that lasted three hours and six minutes. The Ugandan star, who received tips from his manager Cedric Babu by phone shortly before he took to the courts, acknowledged that the game plan paid off. “He is good at rallying so I made my balls short. I didn’t want to use a lot of energy and I was aggressive with no risks,” Mugabe commented. Enroute to the final Mugabe, ejected Kenyan Gilbert Kibet and Rwandan Jean Claude Gasigwa - seven years his senior. The 2-1 victory helped redeem the hosts’ chances. By CHARLES NYENDE - March 27, 2011 Victory put Kenya back on track for a spot in the Nations Cup but face difficult away fixture to Angola on June 4 and without Mariga. Inter Milan’s McDonald Mariga sent a sold-out Nyayo National Stadium into rapture on Saturday with a special, stunning goal late in the second half to hand Kenya a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Angola in their Africa Cup of Nation qualifier. Angola seemed to be in control after an early strike from their deadly striker Manucho before second-half substitute Jamal “Malo” Mohammed stabbed home the equalizer. But the match appeared headed for a disappointing draw, from Kenya’s perspective, before Mariga latched onto a loose ball from the edge of the penalty to almost reap off the net with a powerful half volley. He was soon after sent off with a second yellow card for inappropriately celebrating by removing his shirt. “I did a stupid thing after I scored that goal, but that doesn’t mean that our team won’t do the needful when we play away in Angola,” Mariga said. “I am annoyed with that red card, of course, but the referee wasn’t fair. My first yellow card wasn’t warranted; I just didn’t hear him blow the whistle.” Back on track The victory put Kenya back on track for a spot in the 2012 Nations Cup campaign but they face a difficult away fixture against Angola on June 4 and without Mariga, who got a second yellow card for taking off his shirt in celebration after scoring. Coach Zedekiah “Zico’ Otieno started the match with a new look formation featuring a three-pronged attack line of Dennis Oliech, George “BlackBerry” Odhiambo and Bob Mugalia. But it was Angola who grabbed the initiative, twice coming close inside the first 10 minutes. Mateus Costa dispossessed Joseph Shikokoti but saw his effort cleared from the line by Dennis Onyango in the seventh minute. Aderito Carvalho’s goal-bound free header was saved by an alert Arnold Origi two minutes later as Angola threatened to run riot. Introduction of Jamal, Mugabe The inevitable happened in the 18th minute after Kenya’s back four line was exposed with a through ball by Dljalma Campos for Manucho to finish with aplomb. Kenya looked out of sorts as Mariga tried to play the superman against the composed Angolans. The introduction of Mohammed and Victor Mugabe for Nyaga and colourless Johanne Omollo completely turned Kenya’s game. They restored parity with a swift counter involving Mugabe who threaded along pass for Mariga to send into the box. Angola failed to clear and Mohammed was quick to take advantage on 53 minutes. Mariga settled matters in the 87th minute running onto a rebound on the edge of goal. geBlmiE8qd0 hBw1KdIvAIk www.nation.co.ke Kisumu Ndogo March 27th, 2011, 02:07 AM But those players aren't the Best of Congo. The hard fought win, achieved by an 87th minute blast from the right boot of Inter Milan midfielder, MacDonald Mariga, sparked Kenya’s spluttering campaign to seal a ticket in the Equatorial Guinea/Gabon Nations Cup to life- or did it? First Mariga, who incidentally scored the winning goal when Kenya last tasted victory at a qualifier in a 2-1 beating of Mozambique in the only win at the botched effort to play in last year’s World Cup and Nations Cup on June 20, 2009, got himself needlessly sent off for a second yellow as he celebrated his wonder strike. “It was a stupid thing for me to do. At that moment, I forgot I had the yellow card and I’m very disappointed but I believe there are capable players to replace me in our next match. The referee was however, not fair since the first yellow card he gave me was not deserved,” the midfielder who also grazed the bar with another rasping deflected effort minutes before his goal told reporters. The red card rules out Mariga, who is fast becoming his country’s talisman, out of the Angola away match and his absence will be a huge blow for team. “It is sad that we lost our partner Mariga and it is upon us to perform for him in the next match. He must travel with us for moral support in our next game and I promise to score for him,” team captain, Dennis Oliech, Stars’ other important cog said. Secondly, as Kenyans were celebrating their victory against the unfortunate Palancas Negras who truth be told, deserved at least a point for their polished first half display, neighbours and bitter rivals Uganda were busy beating Guinea Bissau 1-0 away to take command of Group J. Success achieved through a veteran David Obua strike moved the Cranes, who survived a penalty, to seven points, three clear of Stars and after navigating tricky away ties to Bissau and Nairobi where they have picked four points, they now stand favourite to clinch the automatic berth to the Nations Cup in their pool. Eleven group winners will join the co-hosts in the 2012 Nations Cup finals with the other three qualifying as best runner-ups across all 11 groups. At the moment, Kenya is out of the running for this alternative route, with Mali (Group A), Nigeria (Group B), Niger (Group G), Sudan (Group H) and Malawi (Group K) in the hunt for the best pool runner-up slots. Put simply, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s side need to win all their remaining three matches, away to Angola, at home to Guinea Bissau and away to Cranes to achieve the maximum 13 points that could seen them either overhaul Uganda at the top of the group or strongly challenge for the three best runner-up slots open to the 11 groups. “Our focus is now on the next match. I prefer playing away since there is no pressure from home fans booing you. I told you before this game there was no pressure on me, coaching Gor Mahia is tougher than Harambee Stars but the job is not done,” Otieno who took over from Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee told reporters after the Angola game. Stars take on Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an away friendly on Wednesday where Zico needs to figure out how to shape his side without his suspended midfield lynchpin. “Of course, we are very disappointed to miss Mariga but the referee should have applied common sense. Throughout the game, he made bad decisions that have cost us an important player but we have to move on and find ways to go on without him,” the tactician expressed. Saturday’s victory over Angola was much welcome for the beleaguered side but it is by no means enough to book Kenya’s place in the Nations Cup since 2004. Rather, it was an encouraging step in the right direction. Nigeria's Super Eagles confirms Harambee Stars friendly By Oluwashina Okeleji BBC Sports http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/51738000/jpg/_51738879_eagles.jpg The Super Eagles will file out against Kenya on 29 March Nigeria have confirmed they will play Kenya in a friendly match at the Abuja national stadium on 29 March. Original plans for the Super Eagles to face Zambia were shelved after officials expressed concerns about logistical problems. But the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has sealed a deal to play Kenya, much to the delight of the players and coaching staff. "I can confirm that we've struck a deal to bring the Kenyans to Abuja for the friendly," NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire told BBC Sport. "And we are very pleased to get an opponent that will appeal to fans and equally give the technical crew stiff competition." Both sides last met in November 2009 when Nigeria qualified for the 2010 World Cup in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win against the Harambee Stars in Nairobi. The Super Eagles had to win to have any chance of denying Tunisia. They fought back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1, but conceded a 79th-minute equaliser, only for Obafemi Martins to seal an emotional win. After failing to secure friendly games in the United States and in Malta for the team, Nigeria is now expected to face the Kenyans two days after a crucial 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia. Kenya are also expected to arrive Nigeria on Monday 28 March after their own qualifying game against Guinea Bissau in Nairobi. "The logistics have been sorted out by both parties and it was clear that the Kenyans wanted to play us. They are just as excited as we are about the match," Olajire said. "We want Nigeria fans to see the players pit themselves against an opponent that is equally challenging for a ticket to next year's Nations Cup. "This is going to be a great match and a fantastic occasion. I know that [coach] Samson Siasia and the team will put on a show that will make the country proud." It will be the second friendly under new coach Siasia, the team were booed at the Lagos stadium after Sierra Leone scored against the Eagles in a friendly, which ended 2-1 in favour of the home team. Nigeria are trailing group leaders Guinea by three points in their qualifying group. They have three points after two matches, level with Ethiopia. Madagascar are the other team in this qualifying pool with only the eventual group winners guaranteed an automatic berth to next year's Nations Cup to be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The Gunners boss is tired of his bungling custodians, and is ready to take a gamble on the 27-year-old Ugandan goalie. Wenger believes Arsenal would have been odds on favourites to win the English Premiership this season if he had the correct man between the sticks. Rowley used the international soccer break to travel to Bissau and saw first hand as Onyango stopped a second half penalty. Having impressed against Kenya in Nairobi, the Black Aces shot stopper also thwarted a number of raids from Bissau with his excellent game reading. Arsenal first picked interest in Onyango last year, but they have stepped up their interest due to incessant errors by Manuel Almunia, and injuries to Lukas Fabianski as well as Wojciech Szczensy. Gangling Ugandan custodian Onyango has kept three successive clean sheets in 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Mutu yachuma April 1st, 2011, 08:01 PM I bet you are posting from a foreign land. Mutu yachuma April 2nd, 2011, 11:40 PM Sofapaka in a historic win over Ismaily 04-02-2011 SOFAPAKA became the first Kenyan team to eliminate an Egyptian side from continental football in a scintillating match played on Saturday. The Kenyan side beat Egyptian giants Ismaily 4-0 at Nyayo Stadium to advance to the next stage on 4-2 aggregate. Ismaily had arrived in Nairobi with a two goal advantage but goals from midfield maestro Anthony Kimani, striker Bob Mugalia, Titus Mulama and Patrick “Petit” Kagogo, were enough to hand the Kenyan side a pass to the next stage of the competition on a 4-2 victory aggregate. An elated Sofapaka stand-in coach Ezekiel Akwana praised the team’s commitment and ability terming it as “collective responsibility.” Akwana spoke to cafonline after the match. Cafonline: How do you feel after the grueling encounter? Akwana: I thank my players for staying focused throughout the match and playing according to instructions. We needed to beat Ismaily and I thank God that am handing over the team to a new coach after a successful outcome of results including the the Kenyan premier league. Cafonline: You lost the first leg in Cairo but today your team dominated almost the entire match. What was the difference? Akwana: We opted for an attacking game from onset and Ismaily wanted to defend the 2-0 advantage from Cairo. I knew we could make it if we kept playing our game and that is why after going 2-0 ahead we kept pressing for more goals. Credit to my players because they kept fighting on and I thank fans for turning up in large numbers to cheer the team to victory. Cafonline: The victory is very significant because Sofapaka becomes the first Kenyan team to eliminate an Egyptian side from continental football after years of waiting. How do you feel as the coach to have achieved the feat? Akwana: Like I told you before the match, records are always made to be broken and that is what we have achieved today. I knew my team was capable of doing it but not by that big margin. I’m very elated. I dedicate the victory to Kenyans because they always had faith in these team and we will fight to go all the way in the competition. Cafonline: What tactics did you deploy against the team that beat you in the first leg? Akwana: I told my players to attack and get goals but in the second half I realized that the Egyptians were not attacking. It gave my team that impetus to go upfront. I still insist that it was a sweet victory for Kenyans. Cafonline: Do you believe that you have achieved what you wanted as Sofapaka stand-in coach because it was your final match? Akwana: Yes. Of course…yes. I wanted to beat Ismaily and progress to the next round and I have achieved that. Kimanzi is a very good coach. He was very instrumental even for the national team and we all welcome him to the Sofapaka family. I will always work very close with him because we want the team to remain on top as always. Cafonline: Now that your team have qualified. What is the next plan? Akwana: We want to go as far as we can in the competition. We did a lot of mistakes last season and we have learnt from that. We have a good team that can go all the way. Let’s keep it going and we have eyes glued for the final. Mutu yachuma April 2nd, 2011, 11:41 PM Impressive and very impressive by the score. This one deserves :applause: :applause: Mutu yachuma April 2nd, 2011, 11:52 PM Nchanga Rangers 0-2 St Eloi Lupopo. 04-02-2011 Nchanga Rangers return to African inter-club championships after about a decade’s absence was ended right on their home turf as two virtuoso second half strikes blessed the Saints of Lupopo - St Eloi Lupopo - with an impressive 2-0 victory to advance to the next round of the Orange CAF Confederations Cup at Nchanga Stadium in northern Zambia. Carrying a crucial 1-0 lead from the first leg played a fortnight ago in the Congolese city of Lubumbashi which is more famed for the exploits of TP Mazembe, Lupopo took on Rangers and cared less for the chants of the patriotic home fans as they dominated the game. Lupopo’s exploits belied Rangers coach Bruce Mwape’s prediction of a goals’ galore. Instead the visitors employed a tactical and cautious approach, breaking forward at intervals to keep Rangers at bay. After a goal-less first 45 minutes, Tamundle Ziyunga headed in on 56 minutes; converting a Tady Agiti cross which Rangers goal-minder Rabson Muchelenganga had no answer to. The Saints’ drawing of first blood sent the hosts into a rush of near panic as they sought an equaliser which never came. Right on the stroke of full time, Agiti rounded up the day’s proceedings. He disposed Rangers’ defender Moses Mulambi before rounding goalie Muchelenganga to shatter Rangers’ dream of progression. Rangers trainer Bruce Mwape whose confidence and outright win prediction was made known to every listening fan and football follower conceded defeat stressing that that his men did not play. In a post match interview with cafonline.com, Mwape simply summed it up: “We didn’t play well. It wasn’t our day.” Lupopo coach Lazare Milosevic was delighted with his team’s qualification to the penultimate round. He praised his side’s resilience and tactical discipline. “We did well. We knew it would not be easy coming to play here. But we held our positions well and capitalised on the flaws of Rangers. Now we look to the next round,” Milosevic said. Midfielder Nkanu Khumalo scored in additional time to eliminate Uganda’s sole continental ambassadors 2-1 on aggregate following a 1-all draw in the first leg. Just like that game two weeks ago at Nakivubo stadium, Victors were left to rue missed chances including one where substitute Hood Mayanja saw his header cleared off the line by defender Bivala Shila on 58 minutes. Brave performance Forward Yuda Mugalu too had two good opportunities with one saved brilliantly by Motema goalkeeper Vumi Matampi and another hitting the cross bar on 26 and 73 minutes respectively. “We were just not lucky. It was a brave performance because we tried all we could,” coach George ‘Best’ Nsimbe told the media in Kinshasa. Victors managed to keep a clean sheet in the first half thanks to goalkeeper Ali Kimera, who condensed a barrage of shots. Kimera saved brilliantly from Ilongo Ngansanga and rushed off his line to block Trevor Salakiaku’s shot after the Motema striker broke away in an individual effort. The Ugandan ambassadors were expected back last night after a four-day trip that included residing in a hotel next to a noisy discotheque. Victors line-up A. Kimera, R. Lugolobi, H. Kalanzi, I. Sofapaka stands for SOTE (kama) FAMILIA (kwa) PAMOJA KUAFIKIA AZIMIO Sofapaka Football Club grew from the then existing church team of M.A.O.S ministries that was called ‘Consuming Fire’. The church team was started under the inspiration of Pastor Jimmy Carter Ambajo in the year 2002. The main objective at this juncture was to have a sporting activity for the men’s fellowship of M.A.O.S Ministries and also do sports evangelism through the team. The team prominently featured in inter-church tournaments and in 2003 the team was third overall, the winning team being Huruma Boys of Bishop Arthur Kitonga’s Redeemed gospel church. In 2004, under the inspiration guidance and sponsorship of our team president Elly Mboni Kalekwa, Sofapaka Football Club was formed. The philanthropic team president gave the young boys most of whom were street boys a chance of livelihood through football. Training at the Nairobi City Park grounds, the boys committed themselves to the team and the sport. The boys abandoned their detrimental lifestyles of glue sniffing, drug abuse, smoking cigarettes and marijuana. They became serious about football the team got the chance to play in the Nationwide league. Bandari F.C was the team that denied Sofapaka to qualify for the Kenya premier League of 2006. Bandari had only one point more than Sofapaka after the latter drew in its final match. Notwithstanding, the year 2006 was the year that Sofapaka F.C first made it into the history books of Kenyan Football. The team won the much coveted Presidents Cup (formerly known as the Moi Golden Cup) under the experiential coaching of Martin Ndagano. By virtue of winning the Presidents Cup the team was supposed to gain automatic qualification to the Kenya premier League but this wasn’t the case for Sofapaka. Being a church based team hence the slogan ‘Watoto wa Mungu’ the team was not disillusioned they prepared themselves well for the Nationwide League zone B championship. They became more determined to join the topflight Kenya premier League. Consequently the team president acquired the man known for lifting teams into the Premier league, Coach Robert Matano to bring to fruition the teams, vision. Under the diligent and no-nonsense coach and a spirited teamwork from the entire Sofapaka family, God crowned the team’s efforts to become the 2008 Nationwide Zone B champions. This victory saw the team gain promotion to play in the 2009 Kenya Premier League. BUTEMBO21 April 16th, 2011, 07:54 AM Tanzania Daily News (Dar es Salaam) Tanzania: Simba, Mazembe Agree 250 Million Samatta Deal 15 April 2011 SIMBA SC have agreed a 150,000 US dollars (about 225m/-) transfer fee for their striker Mbwana Samatta, who will cross over to the Democratic Republic of Congo's giants TP Mazembe. http://www.wavuti.com/uploads/3/0/7/6/3076464/3924973.jpg?381 The agreement to that effect was reached on Thursday night at the Movenpick Hotel in Dar es Salaam between Simba officials and TP Mazembe representatives. An authoritative source within the Msimbazi street club said out of the amount, Simba will get 100,000 US dollar (about 150m/-), while Samatta will receive 50,000 US dollars (about 75m/-) as transfer fees. "Simba and Mazembe have come to a gentleman's agreement over the transfer of Samatta," said the source. The contract between the player at his new club will be signed in a week time in Lubumbashi after Samatta is through with his assignments with the national U-23 team 'Vijana Stars' currently in Uganda for All Africa Games qualifiers and later Taifa Stars friendly in Mozambique. Under the agreement, Mazembe will pay Samatta 5,000 US dollar (7.5m/-) in wages over the duration of his three-year contract at the Lubumbashi based club, apart from other benefits that would add up his package to 90m/- per year. However, the source said the two clubs are yet to agree on the duration of Samatta's contract. TP Mazembe wants to sign a five-year contract with the player while Simba want it to be for three years. But it was tentatively agreed that the contract will last three years. The revelation comes just two weeks after Mazembe, who are the four times and reigning African Champions dumped Simba out of the Champions League campaigns on 6-3 aggregate. Samata scored one of the goals that Simba snatched at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam and was a real menace to Mazembe's defenders. http://www.wavuti.com/uploads/3/0/7/6/3076464/955863208.jpg?644 Despite consistent claims by both coach Patrick Phiri and Simba top leadership that Samatta would not be sold this summer, the size of Mazembe's bid proved irresistible for the former Premier League champions. The funds are likely to go back into strengthening Phiri's squad for the next season premier league as well as Confederation Cup championships. Simba Chairman Ismail Aden Rage confirmed to the 'Daily News' on Friday that the deal he described as 'magnitude' has been reached. Relevant Links Rage said that Mazembe have also agreed to pay Simba 25 per cent of a deal should the player be sold to a third club. "In fact we have also agreed on Patrick Ochan trial deal at Mazembe and if he succeed our club is poised to get more cash that will be spent on buying new quality players," he said. In another development Rage said Ugandan prolific striker Emmanuel Okwi is set for trials at South Africa's giants Kaizer Chiefs. He dismissed as baseless speculations that the lethal striker is set to follow Coach Sam Timbe - his fellow Ugandan at Yanga. "Okwi has a valid contract with Simba that will keep him here until 2014 but we have just agreed to let him go for trial in South Africa . If he passes that will be a matter of negotiations," he said. BUTEMBO21 April 16th, 2011, 08:13 AM I love business. BUTEMBO21 April 23rd, 2011, 07:58 AM Sofapaka missing trio for Confederation Cup match. The Confederation Cup trophy Kenya's Sofapaka carry on their quest to win the Confederation Cuo Kenyan club Sofapaka must overcome the absence of three stars this weekend if they want to continue Confederation Cup giant-killing run. The goal-shy Nairobi team who have been playing top-flight football for just four seasons stunned former African champions Ismailia of Egypt with a 4-0 home triumph in the second round last month. DR Congo Congo pair Bob Mugalia and Patrick Kagogo were among the scorers, but the latter has been ruled out of the Sunday fixture against Saint Eloi Lupopo in his homeland. Kagogo, fellow midfielder Heritier Ndombele and defender Dodo Kayombo cannot return to the country of their birth because it is prohibited by the refugee status they hold. "As refugees they are eligible to be issued with travel documents to any country with the exception of the country of their birth," explained Sofapaka secretary Jimmy Ambajo. The official said Mugalia could play in southern mining city Lubumbashi as he was a legal Kenyan citizen, which is some consolation for a team also hit by injury concerns. Sofapaka edged Aviacao of Angola on penalties before overturning a two-goal first leg loss to Ismailia as they seek to become the first Kenyan winners of a Pan-African club competition. Nairobi teams Gor Mahia (1979) and Kenya Breweries (1994) came closest to ending the drought by finishing runners-up in the now defunct African Cup Winners Cup. A Lupopo side that uses the same stadium as 2010 FIFA Club World Cup silver medallists TP Mazembe are bolstered by several Zimbabweans and after a first round bye, they won home and away against Nchanga Rangers of Zambia. The match finished 1-0 to the home side after a tense four minutes of stoppage time that was enough to knock-out the Congolese side on the away goals rule after the first leg ended 2-1 in favour of Lupopo in Lubumbashi. “I had to confirm my qualification here because I believe we qualified from Congo. At this you don’t expect to achieve anything easily,” coach Francis Kimanzi who made intelligent second half substitutions that finally delivered the goods said after the match. Victory brought huge relief after a tumultuous week that saw Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa suspend three top officials as well as Wednesday’s bitter Kenyan Premier League (KPL) defeat to bottom side City Stars. Needing only an unanswered lone goal to advance, Sofapaka came up against a stubborn Lupopo side intent on holding out for a barren goal. Baraza spurned the home side’s first opportunity in the 17th when he side footed a close range effort wide from an Anthony Kimani cross and the pair linked again five minutes to half-time but the forward’s finish was turned away by an inspired Kikanda Karuki in Lupopo’s goal. The move was started by Titus Mulama who released Kimani with a sliding pass at the edge of the area and the midfielder delivered a low cross to Baraza who shifted the ball to his favoured left foot before drawing a terrific save from Karuki. A couple of minutes later, it was the turn of Congolese born Kenyan international Bob Mugalia to be denied superbly by the Lupopo keeper. Sofapaka were almost made to pay on the stroke of the breather when Carington Gomba left Mulama sprawled on the wet and slippery Nyayo National Stadium turf and his shot from range was fractionally wide of custodian George Opiyo’s left post. After the break, the Congolese side enjoyed its best spell of the match and Tamudeze Siunga had Opiyo scrambling to tip his 25 yard shot past the post on 53 minutes. Kimanzi threw on Patrick Kagogo and John Onami for Anthony Kimani and John Njoroge to spur his attack. Onami came agonisingly close to breaking the stalemate on 76 minutes when his goal bound close range header brought out the most astounding save of the match from Karuki. Mugalia then failed to score from three yards barely three minutes later after sustained pressure from Sofapaka in the Lupopo box saw the ball ricochet to his path. Kimanzi threw his last trump card by bringing on Thomas Wanyama for Mugalia nine minutes to time and the decision did not sit well with the fans. However, the coach was vindicated when two minutes from time, Kagogo delivered a delightfully weighted cross field ball to Wanyama who sent in a floated delivery through the centre of Lupopo’s stubborn defence. Baraza, 32, brought it under control before beating Karuki with a low finish to send the home fans into raptures and the Congolese players to their knees in despair. Four minutes of extra time went up to only add more anxiety to the home team but there was still time for Humphrey Mieno to miss a glorious opportunity to seal the win when he drove unchecked to the Lupopo box, left Karuki on the turf but miscued the finish. In the end it did not matter as Sofapaka’s march in the second tier of the continent’s elite competition claimed its third victim after Angola’s Aviacao and Egyptian giants Ismaily. Next month, the 2009 KPL winners aiming to be the first local side to reach the final of continental competition since Kenya Breweries (now Tusker FC) in 1994 will feature in the group stage play-offs involving 16 other sides. Winners of the two-legged play-offs will be pooled into two groups to contest for the Confederation Cup. The stars and the palancas negras have not met so many times, with the first notable meeting between the two being the 2006/2007 African Cup qualifiers. In that campaign, Kenya won at home while they lost away. Starting off in the Angolan Capital, the home boys suffered a 3-1 defeat with Boniface Ambani scoring the consolation while Tom Olaba was the man in charge of the stars. In the return leg played in 2007, Harambee Stars managed to grab a win, though just a formality as they had already been knocked out of the Cup of Nations. Patrick Oboya scored first with a screamer, before Angola equalized, then Dennis Oliech’s header secured the game for the stars. A different ball game all together this will be. Both teams have equal chances of qualifying to the African Nations Vup in Gabon and Equitorial Guinea in 2012, but only under one circumstance; a win. After losing 2-1 in the first leg match in Nairobi, Angola will be an injured lion seeking to bounce back and devour on anything its way. Harambee Stars too will not be going to the encounter hands folded as they know too well that a win against the Palancas Negras will put them in a position for qualifying for the Cup of Nations. Only Top teams and the best three finishers will qualify for the competitions next year, and with hopes of being among the best runners up almost dwindling, it is a must win situation for Zedekiah Otieno and his boys. After three rounds of matches, Kenya sits on second position in group J with four points, three behind leaders Uganda who play Guinnea Bissau. A win for the Stars will see them rise to 7 points, and their leadership will highly depend on the Uganda/Guinnea Bissau clash. The three points will further strengthen their quest for a place in the African cup of nations. Angola sit at the bottom of the table with three points, picked up after beating Guinnea Bissau. Looking at the best runners up, Malawi is currently at pole position with seven points though they have played 5 matches, two more than all the other teams. Sudan in group I follows with 7 points, Niger in group G, Mali in A, Nigeria in B and Zambia in C all have six points. Tanzania in group D, Congo in E, and Benin in H all have four points, similar with Kenya. This means that a chance of qualifying among the best three runners up is almost impossible considering the number of teams competing for the spot. It will be a game where Kenya will throw all its weight on to win at all costs. MacDonald Mariga will be out suspended while goalkeeper Arnold Origi is out with an injury. Another blow will be the absence of South African based left back Dennis Odhiambo. All these three played a vital role in the first leg. Mariga who had been largely overshadowed by the Angolans had his moment of brilliance scoring the winning goal, earning a second yellow for stripping off his jersey in celebration. Dennis Odhiambo making his full debut for the national team had a brilliant game at left back, even clearing from the goal line a shot in the first minutes of the match. Arnold Origi was also at the heart of the Stars win, being brilliant between the poles, commanding his defense and making some wonderful saves especially in the dying minutes when Angola were hot on the pursuit. Coach Zedekiah Otieno still believes that the current squad has the ability to cover for the absence of the three, but the mutual consent from all and sandry is the goalkeeping department. Tusker’s Boniface Oluoch and Gor’s Jerim Onyango are the two replacements for Origi while the call up of Tanzania based Jerry Santos is expected to riffle the midfield. Patrick Oboya’s presence too will bolster the stars’ mid. AT left back, Sofapaka’s John Njoroge and Ulinzi’s Collins Kisuya were called up to fill the gap, especially with the most likely replacement Sofapaka’s Abdulatiff Omar out injured. Though the Harambee stars preperations has been off the mark, as always, it is every Kenyan’s hopes that the team will at least grab a win to revive the long lost hopes. A trip to Namibia for a friendly and residential camp was called off in the 11th hour while a friendly against Libya at the Nyayo national Stadium was never to be. Stars probable line up Boniface Oluoch will most likely start in goal ahead of Jerim Onyango. The defense will be the most crucial part of the game. With the Angolans being known for their danger in the air with the likes of Manucho and Flavio, Joseph Shikokoti will most likely start at central defense partnering along with Pascal Ochieng. At right back Osborne Monday might start with the left side most likely featuring John Njoroge, with his experience coming in handy over Kisuya. In midfield, Zedekiah Otieno will most likely start with Jerry Santos playing the defensive midfield role while Victor Mugabe plays the offensive midfield. On the right, Patrick Oboya might start with veteran Titus Mulama playing on the left. Allan Wanga might start in attack, most likely due to the fact that he has played in Angola before, in the 2008/2009 season for Petro Atletico. He will defiantly partner with Captain Dennis Oliech. The most probable substitutions might be George “Blackberry” Odhiambo for Patrick Oboya, Jamal Mohammed for Jerry Santos and Mike Barasa for Allan Wanga. Fielding three foreign based players from Vietnam and one from Simba Sports Club of Tanzania, the Ugandans were too hot to handle with the Kenyan coach Leonard Saleh admitted they had lost to a better side. The visitors took the lead on 31st minute through two goal hero Hamisi Kizia when he scored following a defensive mix-up in Kenyan backline. Kenya responded swiftly when Moses Arita leveled the scores three minutes later after combining well with Paul Were, Humphrey Mieno and Gor Mahia’s Edwin Lavatsa. The hosts’ defence was however ripped apart in a chastening second half as the introduction of Patrick Sepuka, and Geoffrey Kizito saw the Ugandans take total control. Owen Kasule added the second goal directly from a corner in 50th minute. Michael Mutyaba extended his team’s lead with a third goal on 54th minute from the spot after Kenya’s Eugene Asike brought down Mutyaba. Tanzania based Emmanuel Okwi scored the fourth goal on 65th minute after combining well with Moses Oloya to beat Kenyan keeper Caleb Adola in Kenya goal with a rasping shot. Uganda Revenue Authority(URA) striker Hamisi Kizia who is the Ugandan League top scorer with 12 goals put the icing on the cake in the 75th minute nodding the rebound home after Okwi scorcher had hit the upright. Coach Leonard Saleh said there was need for long term preparations adding that 10 day preparation was not enough against a team that has been together in the previous qualifying games. “I had to assemble a new side comprised of KPL players within a span of 10 days .Our preparations were not adequate. I do take full responsibility for the loss. We lost to a better side. We have good players but we don’t have a team. We need a long term preparations for good results.” Uganda coach Bobby Williamson said he was delighted with the win, “We have invested a lot in our youth and that is why Ugandan teams are successful. I’m delighted my players were able to follow my instructions.” The return leg will be played in a fortnight in Kampala. Kenyan U-23 shocked by Uganda Kobs Written By:Collins Anampiu, Posted: Mon, Jun 27, 2011 http://www.kbc.co.ke/images/pictures/kenya-uganda-u23.jpg The loss comes barley three days after the national side harambee stars lost 2-1 to sudan at the same venue The national under 23 soccer team, was Monday beaten 5-1 by Uganda Kobs in their All Africa Games qualifier tie played at the Nyayo National Stadium diminishing any hopes of qualifying for the games which will be held in Maputo Mozambique in September this year. The Kobs went ahead in the 31st minute through striker hamisi Kizia in a cagy opening with a well timed goal, Kenya levelled 2 minutes later through moses Arita. However after the break it all went wrong for Kenya as kobs winger Owen Kasure capitalized on poor defending by the hosts to restore the lead in the 54th minute, Emanuel Okui added the third via penalty after Kenyan defender Eugene Asike was adjudged to have brought down Micheal Mutiaba. The contest was all but lost for Kenya in 74th minute with Kizia adding a fourth and Habib Kuvuma scoring the fifth to put his side firmly in control of the tie ahead of the second leg due in Kampala next month. The result left the fans baying for coach Leonard Saleh's blood. The loss comes barley three days after the national side harambee stars lost 2-1 to sudan at the same venue. Kenya has an uphill task of overturning the deficit away in Kampala in their return leg fixture scheduled for next month. Kenya U23s in Uganda deluge 27 June, 2011 10:03:00BY MUTWIRI MUTUOTA Font size: NAIROBI, Kenya, June 27- Kenya’s shambolic youth football set-up was hung to dry when Uganda Under-23 side romped to an emphatic 5-1 victory on Tuesday in an All Africa Games first-leg qualifier in Nairobi. The delayed match which was washed out on Sunday due to the freak downpour that rocked the Capital left a sour taste in the handful of home fans who braved the chill to watch the sure-footed Ugandans give their team a harsh football lesson. Hamisi Kizza, a thorn to the Kenyan side throughout the match, gave the Ugandan’s the lead on 19 minutes before Moses Arita equalized for the hosts in the 23rd for a 1-1 score line at the break. That is how good it got as after the break; Uganda seized control with two goals in three minutes, the first arriving in the 56th when Owen Kasule headed for 2-1 before Eugene Asike needlessly hacked down Michael Mutabya in the box to concede a penalty. Mutabya rose to chip the ball past Caleb Adola in the Kenya goal and with the host’s challenge wilting, Emma Okisi (67’) and Kizza’s second (79’) completed the rout. Having seen enough, home supporters turned their ire on Football Kenya Limited (FKL) officials present at the final whistle, with most ire directed at Patrick Naggi, who holds the post of Technical Director at the association. Police had to create a buffer between the enraged fans and the officials who included FKL directors Titus Kasuve and Erastus Okul to avoid confrontations turning physical. Kenya’s Under-23 coach, Leonard Saleh minced no words when he admitted the Uganda whitewash served as a stark pointer to the dire straits the country’s youth football structure was in. “We need to build a team, instead of trying to go for a quick fix every time we have to play international youth matches. We have good individual players, Arita (Thika United) and Kevin Kimani (Mathare United) are top scorers for their (Kenyan Premier League) teams,” the distraught tactician stressed. “But we have no team and Uganda showed us the way to go. They have been developing their team, given them exposure and they did not have to do much to beat us,” he added. Bob Williamson, who also handles the senior Uganda Cranes side, stamped the assessment home stating, “We were more organised than them as a team and we came here with a plan. They did not have one and even when they equalised, we kept on playing our game and I’m very pleased with the result.” “I’m pleased my players did as asked and we were the better team out there on the day. I cannot say I came here expecting such a big margin but we came here with an objective,” he went on. The game was played at noon to avoid any other further risk of a washout and vociferous Uganda fans who accompanied their charges were in full song as their team tore the hosts apart. A number of Ugandan journalists reported the pasting in real time on mobile phones as their Kenyan counterparts sat desolate on the cold stands as they watched the All Africa Games dream shredded in a deluge akin to the showers that washed out the game on Sunday. It was Kenya’s second successful home defeat as the senior side lost 2-1 to a largely Under-23 Sudan side on Saturday in the LG Cup. Two goals from Hamis Kiiza and one each from Owen Kasule, Mike mutyaba and Emma okwi ensured that Kenya will now have a steep mountain to climb in the return leg. The visiting Kobs took a 24th minute lead through Hamis Kiiza and five minutes later Moses Arita had leveled for the home side for first half to end 1-1. In the second half the Kobs exhibited more superiority over the Kenyans scoring four more goals. Owen Kasule, Mike Mutyaba, Emma Okwi and another Kiiza score Kobs coaches George Ssimwogerere and George best Nsimbe will have a breather following the big win ahead of the return leg due in Kampala in a fortnight. An emphatic 5-2 aggregate score ensured Kobs progressed at the expense of Tanzania to set up a clash against the eastern neighbours Kenya. Elizabeth Shako hopes to become the first female boss of the Kenyan game when the poll takes place next month. "Kenyans are ready for change and will accept whoever brings change, be it a woman or a man," she told BBC Sport. "I stand as an alternative to the bad leadership that's been there." Kenyan football has been split between two factions since 2004 and the forthcoming elections are part of Fifa's plan to resolve the problems. Also hoping to be crowned on 13 August are Kenya Football Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya and his bitter rival Mohammed Hatimy of Football Kenya Limited. Shako has identified the presence of the "same old failed men" as the major obstacle to reform and progress in Kenyan football. A vital win to revitalize a chance of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equitorial Guinnea is at stake. Stars are in a must win situation if they at least hope to appear in next years’ African tournament. The home boys currently are placed at third in group J with 4 points, in a group led by Uganda with 10 points while Angola follow in second with six. Kenya has lost two matches in its campaign, winning one and drawing the other. In its first match, after shambolic preperations, Kenya succumbed 1-0 to Guinnea Bissau, a goal scored in the 76th minute by Niche. In the second match, Kenya managed to pull strings together and fought to a barren draw with Uganda cranes, with MacDonald Mariga hitting the woodwork twice. The third match was better for the home boys, coming from behind to beat Angola 2-1. Manucho opened scores early in the first half for the Angolans before Jamal Mohammed and MacDonald Mariga came to the rescue for Kenya. In their fourth match, playing against Angola in Luanda, Stars put up a good show before succumbing to another late goal, losing the match 0-1 and Kelvin Ochieng’s clear goal being denied for offside. All the mixed fortunes in Harambee Stars’ campaign have made qualification for the home boys tricky and a mathematical calculation gives them hope of setting foot in the tournament.Ahead of this match, Stars played a friendly match against Botswana, where despite giving a good account of themselves, still succumbed to a late goal, losing the match by a solitary goal. They seemed to be improving ahead of every match which gives hope that on Saturday they will give a masterpiece for the whole orchestra. Head coach Zedekiah Otieno is oozing with confidence that Stars will carry the day. He says that he has watched the team grow from height to height and he knows on Saturday they will rise up to the occasion. However, Stars placed at position 133 in the FIFA rankings and number 35 in Africa, the Stars should be wary of a Guinnea Bissau side placed at position 40 in Africa and 150 in Africa. Bissau have won a single match, against Stars, drawn one and lost two. They boast of nine players playing in European leagues and might just be the spoilers for the group. Their last match was a friendly against Equitorial Guinnea whom they beat 4-1. With a physical and combative side, the best way for Kenya to win the match would be an attack minded play, something that coach Zedekiah Otieno has been handling daily in training. A cohese midfield and a sharp shooting attack line is what he will need in the assignment. MacDonald Mariga will be missing in the squad and coach Zico says that he will find a replacement, with a wide berth of players to chose from. Stars probable line up: Goalkeeper: Arnold Origi, FK Moss, Sweden http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20arnold.jpg Origi has had a season filled with good and bad tidings. An injury kept him away from the match against Angola in Luanda and he has since recovered and ready to battle. In an interview with Kenyanstar earlier on, Origi said that he has fully recovered and is ready to wear the number one gloves for Kenya. Before he broke his metatarsal to stay out for four weeks, Origi had been recovering from a nasty knee injury that kept him out for a whole year. But he says he has put that behind him, and is now focusing on rebuilding his career. He is hawk eyed, flexible and has foot power which gives him an advantage on 1-9 counter attacks. Fullback 2: James Situma, FK Tirana http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20asituma.jpg The ever hard working former Sofapaka captain has had one of his best seasons ever. After a glittery career in the Confederations Cup with Sofapaka, Situma’s star shone brighter as he turned pro, signing for FK Tirana in Albania where he has become a regular. He has pace and power, essential for a defender. His crosses are accurate though at time they tend to have excessive power. His greatest weakness lies in his numerous over laps. Many times he lets his defense get caught off guard when he leaves a gap at his position after mounting an attack forward. However, Coach Zico has trimmed the behavior and he sets to potray a better picture on that. Fullback 3: Dennis Odhiambo, South Africa http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20adeno.jpg He has been the revelation of the year. He earned his first cap for the national team when they played against Angola in Nairobi in March. With Kenya still searching for a natural left footer to sink into the position at that time, Odhiambo was given an opportunity to prove his worth by the coach. Many people who had not watched him play had some doubt in him but after watching him play, that changed in an instant. He made a goal line clearance when the match started and grew in confidence as it progressed. Injury although kept him out of the return match against Angola but he is now back to fitness. He has good pace and a fighting spirit and also possesses good aerial strength. Center-back 4: Antony Kimani, Mathare United http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20amodo.jpg In Mathare United’s hot and cold season, their captain Anton y Kimani has been the most conspicuous among Mathare’s players. He has not only been the anchor of the Mathare defense but has also inspired the team in their worst moments. His strength and vision have possibly earned him a call up to the national team as he pushes Edgar “fighter” Ochieng’ more and more to the bench. He has featured in all the Harambee Stars matches since the Angola away match and seems to have cemented his place at centre back. Last man 5: Pascal Ochieng’, Rangers FC http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20apascal.jpg He is just like good wine, gets better with age. Pascal “Okulo” Ochieng’ is a perfect example of how age comes with better experience. The whole of this season, he has helped his team, Rangers post good results to currently sit at third position on the KPL table. Pascal has been a consistent figure in the team’s back line since the coming in of coach Zico and his play has confirmed just why Zico has faith in him. Pascal has the most intimidating of bodies for a striker and his die-hard fighting spirit is juts the icing on the cake. His tackles are timely and his head power great. Central Defensive midfielder, 6- Victor Mugubi, Celtic http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20mugabe.jpg Another prospect whose career has seen a brighter light this season. Mugubi signed a contract with Scottish giants Celtic FC after a spell with Belgium’s Germinal Berschoft. The lad has great skill that could not pass unnoticed in the European circles with even Aston Villa interested in Mariga’s younger brother. In the first match against Angola in Nairobi, he came in as a sub and immediately changed the flow of the match alongside Jamal Mohammed. Ever since, he has kept a starting place even in the friendlies that Stars have played. Though shy off the field, Mugabe is no joker when it comes to matter business. He is aggressive, hawk eyed and intelligent. He never accepts anyone from the opposition to overshadow him. Attacking midfielder, 8- Jamal Mohammed, Targu Mures. http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20amallo.jpg A free agent at the beginning of the year after a stint in Kuwait, Malo Malo as he is known among his peers from the hood joined the paid ranks in Romania, signing for Top club Taru Mores. His introduction against Angola in Nairobi perharps built him a name and a career in prospect. His deft touches and sweetly measured passes are his trade mark. He knows when and how to attack and his goal scoring mantra is not questionable. He can create as well as go for glory himself. However, he is known to fatigue fast and most probably he will be used in the first half and subbed in the second half, most probably for Jerry Santos. Offensive midfielder- 7 Kelvin Ochieng’- Gor Mahia http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20aa%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20akevo%20modo.jpg The tall midfielkder, Christened Master has had a bright season, starying with Rangers FC where his star caught shine. He has also attended trials in Europe though not successful. After a 6 month stint with Rangers FC where he was a regular helping the club finish the first leg on the peak, Ochieng moved to Gor Mahia where he has also commanded a starting position. He has played in all Stars matches since the Angola away match and is also set to start on Saturday. Offensive midfielder, 11- Titus Mulama- Sofapaka http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20atito.jpg He is also an example of a player getting better with age. His star begun shining once again after joining Sofapaka at the beginning of the season from KCB where he had moved after a long spell with Mathare United. He has greatly improved and become better becoming one of the core players in Francis Kimanzi’s squad. He is a natural left footer, giving him a huge advantage in playing in the position. He has good ability on dead balls and is also hawk eyed when passing. Striker, 9- Mike Barasa- AFC Leopards. http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20abarry.jpg With Moses Arita headed to Albania for professional soccer, Barry is set to be in the running for the KPL golden boot. He currently lies second with 9 goals behind Arita with 10. His love for goal has seen him bag four goals since joining AFC from Ulinzi where he had netted five league goals and three in the Top 8 tournament. His left foot is known to possess magnanimous venom that can sting in any direction and at any time. He has been at the centre of attack for both teams he has played for this season and is hot favorite to start on the attack. Lead striker, 10- Dennis Oliech- AJ Auxerre http://www.kenyanstar.co.ke/images/stories/a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20a%20aoliech.jpg The hardworking National team captain is definitely set to start in attack probably twin striking with Barasa. He is a first team player at Auxerre and in the current squad is the most capped player. He is hard working, a team player and a motivator on and off the pitch. He is Kenya’s leading all time goal scorer but has not seen the back of the net in this year’s campaign. The Ethiopian great failed to finish having experienced apparent stomach problems around the 27km mark. "In the morning my body was not good but, after I started the race, it started reacting very well. I started thinking about the record," said Makau. Last year I had some problems with my soles inside my shoe, but today everything went very well." Gebrselassie, the 38-year-old double Olympic champion at 10,000m, had also been looking to post a fast time and ease the pressure on him to qualify for the Games ahead of strong Ethiopian rivals. But he found himself forced to step off the road midway through the race as Makau, sensing the Ethiopian great was struggling, upped the pace. Gebrselassie set the previous world record time with a mark of 2:03.59 in the third of his four consecutive Berlin victories between 2006 and 2009. However, this year he halted for a full minute as his hopes of a quick time evaporated, then pulled out for good at the 35km mark. "He was still feeling good at 25km but then his lungs started tightening up. He could not breathe - we don't know why," his agent Jos Hermens said. Hermens added that Gebrselassie suffers from asthma and is allowed to take medicine, but had not taken any because he had not had any problems for months. "Maybe this was a mistake, but he felt fine before, his preparation was good," he said. "Qualifying [for London 2012] may be a problem now, we don't really know where to get it." Gebrselassie is now expected to head to Dubai in a bid to ensure he reaches the London Olympics. mwanamwiwa October 5th, 2011, 11:13 PM 2011 Safari Rally YXvYz1KgHuw ZHe_5fN-WOI 9MeinfhK0Ro mwanamwiwa October 6th, 2011, 06:48 PM Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards XU1V7NIZ9AI Sweet revenge. 5Szj8SEx1g0 Malaika254 October 6th, 2011, 09:04 PM The shemejis thrashed sirkal. Me too, but i heard kenya played really badly.Ans if it was not for the keeper we would have been whitewashed 5-0 or more.Oliech also messed up an opportunity to score.Kenya should now head to brazil or Argentina for 6 months training.Play friendlies every weekend. mwanamwiwa October 9th, 2011, 07:46 PM Here (+2), waiting for the drumbeats(Isikuti) to die down.  VR1qkm2gd7o Mistah ILL WILL October 9th, 2011, 09:25 PM This coming Wednesday .....
