doh, I apologize. I thought this thread was for highway shots, but I look back and see it's actually for shots from 'interstates'. That shot of Charlotte is from Independence Expressway, not an interstate.

Eh , don't fret . Soon enough it could become a spur of I-85 to I-73 or something odd like that. ;)

As I've driven through every major metropolitan area in the U.S., I'd have to say that Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston, perhaps Los Angeles and Dallas, offer the best views of skylines from expressways in the country.

I like Atlanta's skyline coming into downtown going southbond on I-75. I also like the other lowline clusters from a distance, that's off I-85 heading northeast; those are just as nice.

I'm thinking one day, if I'm actually driving on some giant (tall,) sweeping overpass - I'm just going to park at an angle and block traffic.
Then I'm going to slowly set-up a tripod for a panorama shot of a skyline while I tune-out all the yells and honks of commuters.
Then I'll set up a canvas and paint happy trees with happy clouds - and that skyline.

Portions of the downtown Philadelphia skyline come into view as the freeway nears Oregon Avenue. A set of auxiliary signs are posted for the Philadelphia Convention Center and the Penns Landing area along the Delaware River waterfront. The Penns Landing district is home to a river walk, outdoor concert amphitheatre, and several restaurants and adult entertainment venues. Photo taken 03/23/04.

The Delaware Expressway viaduct elevates on the southwest curve over Frankford Avenue, Allen Street, and Laurel Street. Exit 22 is signed with the control points of Callowhill Street for Independence National Historical Park (Independence Mall), Old City, and Chinatown. The Ben Franklin Bridge and the Vine Street Expressway are not directly connected. A series of surface street maneuvers is required to navigate between Interstate 95 and the bridge via the Callowhill Street off-ramp. Photo taken 04/25/04.

One of the best Interstate views in the country IMO. I-95 going over the HOV lanes at the interchange with the 836 expressway north of Miami. The HOV lanes go up about 75 feet in the air over the interchange and on the way down you have all of Miami in front of you. Check it out (thanks for the pics Aessotariq from UP):

I wish somebody would find a pic or take a pic of I-45 south going into Houston. Great skyline view and you think power once ride up on it. I also like the I-10 east skyline view coming from the western suburbs.

^^ Up until recently NOBODY wanted to go there, but lately, just in the past two years, it has really been taking strides to improve itself. 21 new restaurants have opened there this year alone. It still needs work, but I'd say within the next 5 years you would see it become much more vibrant. Many new proects are being built and even more being proposed or planned.

I was thinking the same. Its amazing how fast that area is changing. It is the area right beside Skydome, just before you enter the downtown core. There are still more towers going up in that location. I hope they get rid of some of those older looking buildings to the right and build some new condos in their place.

Um, This is suppose to be from Highways/interstates/freeways, not just random pictures.
And I hope thats sarcasm about any of us never seeing the skyline before.

Minneapolis is my favorite from the interstate! amazing!
It does look good from 35W or 94.
I think the Chicago skyline from the Kennedy Expressway is the coolest skyline view from a freeway that I've ever seen. Anyone have pictures of that view?

Ummmm... TalB... yeahh see I'm pretty sure none of those photos were from, or even remotely close to freeways. There isn't an Interstate running through the middle of Sheep Meadow in Central Park is there?

That person would survive, b/c there are people who drive pickups in that area, though I won't drive one myself.
