Some sources say that they will completely renovate current stadium. While the others report that they will demolish old stadium and built the one on the same place. What is the true?

Capital78, in the old project, the stadium would be remodelled using 1/4 from the old stadium, but now, the Fonte Nova stadium will be demolished and built the one on the same place.

Wow, great stadium!

Has Brazil found gold in the Amazonas and oil along it's shores?
A WC with a line-up of new stadiums in 2014 and a Olympics in 2016!

Were does all the money come from?

Actually, brazilian citizens pay the bigger tolls in the whole world. And brazilian economy is the 5th better in the world. Hey,I almost forgot: brazilian oil stock is the bigger one in american continent. So...I think NOW you know where this money come from.:)

Besides it,there'll be a lot of private investments. Brazil is much more capable than you think.

And we've also found huge pre-salt layers in the brazilian coast some kilometers below that will put Brasil feet to feet with Saudi Arabia in therms of oil in the next 5 years.

It depends on which structure to be built. For WC 2014 some stadiums will be builted with each Brazilian states money that will host WC and some of them with BNDES (a Brazilian state development bank). For OG mainly Brazilian federal money and BNDES money.

well, Brazil is the in average the 10th largest economy in the world since the 60s (it was already 8th, and also when the currency devaluated against the dollar, GDP Nominal got lower and we fell to 12th position)

Salvador is a city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Salvador is also known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing population and countless popular outdoor parties, including its street carnival. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the country and in the New World; for a long time, it was also known as Bahia, and appears under that name (or as Salvador da Bahia, Salvador of Bahia so as to differentiate it from other Brazilian cities of the same name) on many maps and books from before the mid-20th century. Salvador is the third most populous Brazilian city, after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and it is the ninth most populous city in Latin America, after Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and Caracas.

The city of Salvador is notable in Brazil for its cuisine, music and architecture, and its metropolitan area is the wealthiest in Brazil's Northeast, its poorest region. Over 80% of the population of metropolitan region of Salvador has Black African ancestry and yet residential segregation by race in Salvador is comprable to major U.S. cities like New York and Chicago. Nonetheless, the African influence in many cultural aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro-Brazilian culture and this reflects in turn a curious situation in which African-associated cultural practices are celebreted, but Black Bahians face major discrimination. The historical center of Salvador, frequently called the Pelourinho, is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

The old stadium is falling into disrepair and that stand collapse meant that it apparently suffers from concrete cancer. It would probably be better if the new stadium had a 60,000 capacity instead of a 50,000 capacity. And what is that gap in the stands at the southern end of the stadium with a bridge? You'd probably be left with some room to expand in the new stadium.

Also, is the gymnasium also going to be demolished for the new stadium?

Salvador doesnt need a 60,000 stadium. 50.000 will just fit for the city.

That gap is to garantee the beautiful view of the dam. It wont be used to a future expansion. The new stadium was just aproved if they keep that gap.

Yes, the Gym will also be demolished.

A question about the original stadium: In the 1950s and 1960s, the old stadium sat 35,000. What did the stadium look like then compared to its current situation, which camer to existance in 1971?

^^That gap is kept to preserve the view of some lake to the south, should have just expanded the lower tier of the old stadium to cover that open end.

And it looks like they had imploded the dome roof of the gymnasium.

And where those people would live? Brazil won the right to be the host but we still have many problems to solve that wont be solved until 2014, our favelas and poor houses are one of then, we shouldn´t hide the problem.

Seriously, kick people out of their homes because you don't like them? What is this? A 19th century Russian pogrom of the Jews?

ABSOLUTELY keep the homes, I think they will look great as a backdrop for the stadium, and they provide a terrific overall context for a stadium located in a residential neighborhood. You want the experience to be authentic, for better or worse, and the condition of the homes surrounding the stadium is the least of the issues facing Brazil in 2014.

The whole point of imploding it is so that it takes less time then trying to tear up concrete with an excavator, and by blowing it up, it makes it easier to clean up the rubble, i promise, engineers aren't as stupid as you might think.. besides blowing up stuff is fun

People gotta understand that a brazilian WC will be played in Brazilian cities, not in tokyo or dubai.. and brazilians cities do have poverty and problems!! It is true you gonna find beautiful and modern places, the best stadiums, nice transportation and hotels, an unique atmosphere, plus people whom love soccer and are ready to embrace foreing visitors, but don't go to brazil in 2014 if you are not expecting to see poverty like in those houses around the stadium..

Yes, this was accorded on the beggening of this year! "Barradão" stadium will be used just for train, and the two biggest soccer teams (Bahia and Vitória) play just in Fonte Nova, how was done until 1994, whem the Manoel Barradas Stadium (Barradão) was constructed.

If they keep going with convention demolition means, there might not be any pieces of the stadium left for the big implosion. Aside from that, implosion preparations are going smoothly.

DemolitionDave

It's not any faster or any easier. It's just the opposite. I am an engineer. A demolition engineer in fact.

Why do you think more major stadiums have been demolished by conventional methods then by implosion?

Just use the USA as an example. Out of all the stadiums demolished only 4 have been imploded.

There is a reason for that.

kNuHfHWaK3o

Once the camera units were all in place, the crew moved out of the arena and took position on the other side of the safety perimeter.

And a siren meant to signal the five-minute warning for the implosion continued to go off as the stadium came down – you can hear it as Ian Herring films the demolition with his Lumix:

QIS0y7Wuwu0

But the overall mission – to capture the first ever implosion in stereo for international broadcast – was an explosive success.

All camera systems were rolling when the arena came down, including several kill cams positioned inside the stadium to capture unprecedented 3D footage ultra close .

Then the crew hustled to get post-Blowdown interviews and dig kill cam footage out of the massive debris pile – success!

Next they took a bit of time to relax before tackling one epic gear pack-up.

They'll make their way back to Vancouver, Canada tomorrow.

Now we're adrift in the quasi calm before another stereo storm …

Once the footage arrives back, our post production journey into the third dimension begins.

What a ride.

Why don't they build the new stadium totally rectangular? I feel like Brazillians like something round or oval when it comes to football stadium. Is it thought of traditional beauty in Brazil?

On the Arena Fonte Nova case is because of tradition.

They are rebuilding it to just look like the old stadium

Is it winter during the WC in Brazil? What is the average temperature during the period?

Alexpilsen
June 13th, 2011, 06:55 PM
Depends where you'll be...

All are aproximatelly

Recife - Salvador - Natal - Fortaleza = Average 20°C and 25°C

Manaus - Cuiabá = Average 17ºC and 25ºC

Brasilia = Average 10ºC and 22°C

Sao Paulo - Belo Horizonte = Average 9ºC and 18ºC

Rio de Janeiro = Average 17ºC and 26ºC

Curitiba - Porto Alegre = Average 4°C and 16ºC ;)

Curitiba and Porto Alegre sometimes less than this. This year for example is colder than last year.

Those figures aren't quite right, as what you've taken is the daily average, or mean, as the high, which isn't what you want. The mean just rounds up selected figures throughout the day and night and gives the average figure, rather than the one experienced.

What you want to know (and what weather forecasts give you on TV, internet, etc) is the daily high, the temp reached during the afternoon, and low for the night. In The 4 north East Cities the high is around 27/28c and low 21c during June and July, so you're looking at afternoon temps probably between 26-30c, but from what I remember being there for a month was there remarkably little variation between days compared to the SE and South of Brazil. It was pretty much always 27/28 as a high.

Rio has an average high of 25/26c during the Winter, but I remember days of 30c and some of 21c, so basically anything between 20-30c as a high.

Sao Paulo was the same, but lower highs. 16-24c.

I think an important point is that there should be little rain during this period, apart from Recife.....
