BATU GAJAH: Rail commuters can look forward to enjoying improved services in the first quarter of this year when KTM Berhad introduces the first set of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) six-car trains, to its Komuter service.

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said more EMU trains would be added to the Komuter's service fleet in batches by middle of the year.

He said the new additions are expected to improve the ridership and use of public transport.

The new trains will operate on the Seremban-Rawang-Seremban, Batu Caves-Port Klang-Batu Caves, Rawang-Tanjung Malim-Rawang and Seremban-Sungai Gadut-Seremban routes.

Ticket prices are expected to rise slightly.

Syed Hamid said the decision on the increased fair was in consideration of the refurbishment and maintenance cost of the new trains.

He also said the ticket prices would reflect the improved services, which would include shorter waiting duration from 30-minute intervals to 15 minutes during peak hours.

KTMB president Dr Aminuddin Adnan said the new EMU trains would have additional features such as onboard closed-circuit television cameras, two dedicated female-only coaches, trained captains to assist commuters and three doors on each coach for transitional ease of passengers.

He added that there would also be designated areas for the disabled on each coach of the trains.

Each train could accommodate up to 1,000 passengers on a single trip compared to the 300 on the current trains.

Aminuddin said once the entire fleet of new trains was fully operational, KTMB would overhaul the old trains to improve their conditions for better services in the future.

Significant improvements to the KTM Komuter service are one of the initiatives under the GTP's Urban Public Transport NKRA to improve the quality of public transport in the city in a bid to encourage a higher public transport ridership.

KTM commuters to enjoy improved services

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is in the process of upgrading its services to better serve passengers daily, said Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal (pic).

Responding to the GTP’s Urban Public Transport NKRA lab indication of the need to improve its services, he said KTMB decided to increase its trains’ passenger capacity with additional six-car train sets, which are twice the length of its current three-car trains sets used for the Komuter service.

Mohd Nur Ismal said in May 2010 KTMB had made an acquisition of 38 six-car train sets to improve its services and capacity to accommodate the increase in ridership for the Komuter lines, which would address issues such as service delays caused by insufficient trains.

He said Komuter passengers could expect improved services by the end of the first quarter this year after KTMB introduces the first six-car train set for the service.

Each train can accommodate up to 1,000 passengers per trip, 700 more than the older trains’ 300-passenger capacity.

He said all 38 trains were expected to be operational by July and would reduce waiting time for train arrival intervals to about 10 minutes during peak periods.

Wow, what a waste, and those type of EMUs are only good for ETS kind of service in the first place, not the commuter kind of thing where you need people to get in and out quick.

10 new trains for KTM Komuter by end March

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 10 new six-car trains will be added to KTMB's Komuter train fleet by the end of March.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the new trains were needed to ease congestion on the current trains, which he said were running over-capacity.

This is in tandem with work to build more than 6,000 new parking lots at 18 LRT and KTM Komuter stations in the Klang Valley to encourage migration to public transport.

Kong was speaking at a cheque presentation ceremony here Thursday to PKNS for RM3mil, to build 532 new parking lots at the Shah Alam Komuter station.

Hopefully on 8th March onwards, with 4 SCS on operational, everyone will have the chance to try the new train... Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the new trains would alleviate the congestion on-board the current trains, which were running beyond capacity.

He said the new trains would be able to transport 1,000 passengers at any one time.

The additional trains scheduled for the KTM Komuter service is in tandem with work to build over 6,000 new parking bays across 18 Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KTM Komuter stations in Klang Valley to better facilitate commuters with private vehicles.

He said this exercise would contribute to the Government’s aspiration to increase public transport ridership in the Klang Valley to 25% by the end of the year.

Kong also said his ministry was looking into providing incentives to passengers who use the KTM Komuter, particularly the handicapped, senior citizens and students to lighten their burden of transportation cost.

The initiatives to improve the commuter experience on the LRT and KTM Komuter services fall under the GTP’s Urban Public Transport NKRA, which aims to increase the ridership of public transport in the Klang Valley.

End of this week, 4 sets.

Then, every month until June 2012, they will add (if I am not mistaken) 8 sets.

10 minutes operation might be possible once most sets are in service.

Right now, they have 16 sets in Malaysia, 4 out of which had completed their testing, so these 4 sets to enter service end of this week.

That is exactly how the current trains feel like 17 years ago!!

One can only wonder how the SCS trains will feel like in 2029.

KUALA LUMPUR: Longer and more spacious trains will ply the Port Klang-Sentul and Seremban-Rawang routes from this weekend to serve some 98,000 commuters.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will start with four of the 38 six-car units costing a total RM1.89bil.

The rest will be introduced in stages by June.

When all the new trains hit the track, waiting time will be reduced from half an hour to just 10 minutes.

KTMB corporate communications senior manager Mohd Fazil Ismail expects immediate improvement to the service, given that each train can hold 1,100 passengers, compared to the 400-passenger capacity of the present three-car units.

The trains, made by China's Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive company and costing close RM50mil each, would drastically reduce overcrowding in KTM trains along the popular routes, he said during a media tour of the sophisticated coaches.

“Some passengers have complained being made to wait for the next train due to overcrowding. We hope to avoid such situations in the future,” he said, adding that KTMB received an average of two to three written complaints a day.

About 70,000 commuters take KTM trains to and from work during the morning and evening peak hours. A further 28,000 passengers travel from 10am to 4.30pm.

The six-car units incorporate several passenger-friendly features, including an LCD screen notification system, plug points to charge electronic devices, and a two-way intercom between passengers and drivers for emergencies. There are also the women-only coaches.

“Our voice automated announcement and LCD notification system are especially helpful to disabled passengers, alerting them of arrivals at a station,” he said.

Each unit can accommodate more standing passengers with its three-row handrail. An open space concept enables passengers to move from coach to coach.

Mohd Fazil said the train also had security features allowing doors to be opened manually and windows to be broken in case of emergen-cies.

“Each coach has three CCTV cameras for the driver to monitor what's going on. There are also ladders for emergencies,” he said.

He said KTMB had been planning to get the new trains since May 2010 in line with the National Key Result Area objective of improving urban public transportation.

Mohd Fazil said the Government had allocated RM2bil to improve KTM services.

The remaining RM110mil would be used to switch to a token-based ticketing system to be introduced in May.

Around 11 am yesterday, preview ride for the media.

I can say this train rides better than the existing ones. Interior space also feel more spacious and the white colour of the interior also looking good.

Govt targets 600,000 for daily peak-hour use

KUALA LUMPUR: Under the National Key Result Area (NKRA) policy, the Government wants the use of public transport in the Klang Valley to reach 25% or 600,000 passengers during peak hours, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the initiative to enhance the national public transport (NKRA-UPT) had begun two years ago, and for the comfort of the people, the Barisan Nasional government had invested RM1.9bil to acquire 38 sets of sophisticated MyKomuter trains which would be absorbed into the KTMB services in stages.

Muhyiddin said this initiative would not stop at the Klang Valley but would be extended throughout the country.

"To date, the Malaysian government has received 16 sets of MyKomuter from China, where four of them had already undergone stringent safety tests under the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) while the remaining 12 trains are undergoing tests and commissioning," he said in his speech when launching the MyKomuter set which began operations from KL Sentral Thursday.

All these trains had passed the stringent standards set by the international commissioning agency, namely the TUV (Technical Inspection Association), he said.

Members of the public using the MyKomuter service would receive free coupons to board the train worth RM2 which could be used for a six-month period, he said.

KTMB will also provide a 50% discount for the purchase of weekly tickets, and free transport for students wearing uniforms, the handicapped, and senior citizens for six months.

"Continuous efforts by the Transport Ministry, particularly the NKRA Unit and the KTMB in raising the quality of public amenities, especially the railway, reflects the continued concern of the Government on the importance of public transport in the country," he said.

He said that the use of KTM Komuter during peak hours had reached 1.4 times the passenger capacity limit as the commuter coach could only carry 150 passengers but now it had to carry 200 passengers at any given time.

"This causes discomfort to the passengers and also resulted in several other problems cropping up including maintenance, delays in scheduling and the cancellation of services. As a result, consumers chose to opt for their private vehicles as the mode of transport for daily tasks especially during the peak hours between 7am and 9am," he said. - Bernama

i remember years ago when i was in high school, i rode a train from Butterworth to KL. Just after depart from Butterworth platform, before the Sungai Prai Bridge, the train will pass through slum area (next to Penang Port Bulk Terminal). The slum kids were throwing rocks, the rocks from the trackbed itself so you can imagine how big it is.

I believe it also happens in other place. I remember ETS train was also not spared, took ETS from IPH to KLS and i remember one of the coaches got their window cracked.

^^ i don't think we should bring the whole education stuff and politic blablabla into this argument since i do believe if the parent know to teach their kids well, No such thing as vandalism happen. This happen when parent are putting the responsible of educating their own kids to the teacher at school when the fact that they are the one who should have done it. I live near KTM track since i was small (now no longer), we do play near the track but never once throw rock to the train. :)

There should have CCTV installed for front and rear view of the train, just like many other countries did.

Do you know that Taiwanese public bus has installed CCTV not only inside (for passenger to alight and depart), also front and rear (ok, looks normal). But, these buses do have CCTV installed at side (at top rear), so that bus driver can judge better if has any people stand beside or has left the bus thoroughly.

This side CCTV has once being used to capture an accident that a van has slight body crashed, and has used the video recorded as evidence.

So, this concept should have been used to our trains & buses. Particularly buses, whereby many cases involved bus ramp over or drag the passenger to injury or death.

UALA LUMPUR: Pengguna komuter bakal menikmati perkhidmatan yang lebih berkualiti apabila empat set tren yang mengandungi enam gerabak (SCS) bagi setiap set mula beroperasi hujung minggu ini sebagai permulaan.

Pengurus Kanan Unit Komunikasi Korporat KTM Berhad (KTMB), Mohd Fazil Ismail berkata setiap tren itu mampu membawa sehingga 1,100 pengguna bagi perjalanan sehala berbanding 400 orang sekarang.

"Isu utama rungutan pengguna terhadap perkhidmatan KTM Komuter ialah masalah kelewatan serta tempoh menunggu yang lama. Kita percaya melalui pengenalan Tren SCS ini semua masalah tersebut akan dapat diatasi," katanya.

KTMB akan memiliki 38 set Tren SCS dan kini telah menerima 16 set. Baki 22 set lagi akan diperoleh secara berperingkat sehingga Jun ini.

Petugas media hari ini dibawa menaiki Tren SCS dari stesen KL Sentral ke Kajang dan kembali semula ke KL Sentral.

Mohd Fazil berkata keseluruhan 38 set Tren SCS tersebut bernilai RM1.894 bilion dengan setiap set bernilai RM49 juta.

Perkhidmatan Tren SCS dijangka dirasmikan oleh Timbalan Perdana Menteri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Khamis ini, yang merupakan sebahagian daripada Bidang Keberhasilan Utama Nasional (NKRA) bagi meningkatkan kualiti perkhidmatan pengangkutan awam bandar.

Beliau berkata KTMB turut merancang melaksanakan jadual ketibaan setiap 10 minit pada waktu puncak apabila kesemua 38 set Tren SCS digunakan.

"Sasaran kita ialah untuk mengurangkan tempoh menunggu selama 10 minit mulai Jun ini. Jumlah penumpang juga dijangka meningkat sehingga 200,000 sehari," katanya.

Mohd Fazil berkata Tren SCS buatan syarikat Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company (ZELC) dari China itu memiliki beberapa ciri istimewa seperti ruang tempat duduk dan berdiri yang lebih selesa, tiga baris ruang pemegang untuk pengguna berdiri serta ruang kepada golongan orang kelainan upaya (OKU) yang lebih luas dan selesa.

Katanya Tren SCS juga dipasang tiga unit kamera litar tertutup pada setiap koc, tangga untuk turun jika berlaku kecemasan serta sistem pengudaraan yang lebih baik. - BERNAMA

i think the older cards needed to be activated at the ticket counter (prasaranas counters nt ktm), thats what happened with my card but the newer cards straight boleh pakai if im not mistaken :)

Actually, the regular TnG card can be used on RapidKL bus, I did this many times.

The difference is, currently, you cannot reload your TnG card on bus.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Media Shoppe Bhd has turned down an award from Hopetech Sdn Bhd to jointly set up an automatic fare collection system for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd’s commuter stations.

The company said, in a stock exchange filing yesterday, that it was not feasible for it to take on the project as funding was not available within the required time frame of delivery.

New gates already are at some station but not installed because networking and other utility works not even prepared at stations.

With the April deadline looming, and the company unpaid staffs already so desperately looking for new jobs, I wonder when will KTM step in and make sense of this troubled project ?

Some of the these Class 92 SCS looks as if they are in need of a good wash. It's better if they practice the good habit of washing their trains more often before some of the dirt harden and forever stain the trains.

Mumbai MMR commuter trains are washed daily like those automatic car washers at pump stations...but you dont admire the rakes tho:nuts:.

I think Malaysia should ban those kind of flimsy wire fencing along the KTM tracks, should move to the solid and harder wire fence.

I think they have handed over part of the maintenance facility at sentul to CSR which they are currently in the process of upgrading, not sure about the washing machine.

Most of the KTM ticketing machines @ KL Sentral are not working. Really shocking. The platforms are quite dark and not well ventilated. KTM has a really bad management team.

KERETAPI Tanah Melayu (KTM) Berhad president Dr Aminuddin Adnan has pledged to increase the Komuter train frequency, reduce crowding, create safer coaches with auxilliary police force presence and even have an express train service for certain destinations.

“We are on a quest to create higher standards that are consistent with train stations in progressive nations. Our aim is to increase the frequency of train services from every 30 minutes to just 10. Our plans are unfolding in stages.

“Now, we have 11 sets of six-car electric trains from Shanghai, China, that are running well.

“This is part of the 38 new sets of trains for KTM Komuter, which is funded by the Government Transformation Programme’s (GTP) Urban Public Transport National Key Results Area (NKRA),” he said.

Dr Aminuddin said the NKRA initiative would improve the quality of the service.

He said KTM was also studying the possibility of introducing an express service from Port Klang to KL Sentral if there was demand. “For example, the all-women coaches received good support with 60% female.

“At the moment we are working out the time frame where by June we would be able to achieve the 10-minute target once we receive all the trains,” he said after accompanying Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin on a Komuter train ride.

Nong Chik boarded the Komuter train at the Pantai Dalam station and alighted at the Bank Negara station and walked to his office in Jalan Raja Laut.

“People using the trains are happy that the new six-car coaches from China have helped to reduce crowding.

“When all the new trains hit the track, waiting time will be reduced from half an hour to just 10 minutes and this will encourage more people to use the Komuter,” he said.

Nong Chik said the additional coaches had improved service.

“The trains will reduce overcrowding in KTM trains along the popular routes and our aim is to reduce the number of cars coming into the city, thus cutting down on carbon footprint,” he said.

Govt plan to change KTMB management is fresh attempt to revive firm

KERETAPI Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) was in the limelight again last week as speculation was rife that the Government was considering changing the top management of the bleeding national railway corporation.

While the candidates rumoured to be replacing the current president showed fresh attempts to revive KTMB, the problems that have been plaguing the financial performance of the corporation were stale and bland.

In other words, the turnaround effort to steer KTMB back on track with reasonable profit or at the very least selfsustainable to cover its operating cost has been way too long overdue.

Over the years, many of that turnaround efforts have been proven futile as apparent in KTMB's latest publicly available financial statement as at December 2009.

While the magic recipe to return KTMB to the black has yet to be found, history has proven that it was not impossible for KTMB to be profitable.

It was reported that the company managed to rake in net profits of between RM9mil and RM15mil from 1993 to 1995. But after that, it began to post losses from RM116.mil in 2007, RM84.6mil in 2008 and RM92.6mil in 2009.

The losses were attributable to high operational cost while maintaining a relatively low fare, and a steep decline in its biggest revenue contributor of freight business.

One of the reasons for its declining freight business was insufficient train capacity of the State Railway of Thailand to support KTMB's cross-border services.

KTMB also did not have enough electric multiple sets to support its commuter train services.

KTMB associate KL Sentral Sdn Bhd also saw a 70% decline in revenue in 2009.

As a result of this, as at 2009, KTMB's loans stood more than RM1bil while expenses was reported to be about RM200mil a year.

Aminuddin has been planning to restructure KTMB with a number of initiati ves.

In terms of turnaround programme, KTMB has launched a symbolic target of RM1 net profit in January 2009 for the year ended Dec 31 under a new managing director, then Datuk Abdul Radzak Abdul Malek.

Abdul Radzak was previously heading KTMB's freight unit that was performing quite well then.

But Abdul Radzak's contract was ended early less than a year after his appointment to be replaced with the current president, Dr Aminuddin Adnan, who was then Express Rail Link chief executive.

Aminuddin, in 2009, has set up an even higher net profit target than his predescessor at RM1mil for that year.

StarBiz, in an interview with Aminuddin in October 2011, learnt that Aminuddin was planning to restructure KTMB with a number of new initiatives.

These include to separate the infrastructure, operations and maintenance of KTMB into different entities as has been successfully done in other countries' state railway corporations.

According to Aminuddin, the corporate restructuring was to look at a new business model that could make the new entities viable and sustainable.

Some of KTMB's services that were social in nature would be identified and the funding structure reviewed accordingly.

For more viable commercial services, new tariffs or fares need to be introduced together with improved level of services to ensure the sustainability of the respected business units.

However, while the restructuring was still taking its baby steps and, at one point, a consultant was to about be appointed, a proposal came from MMC Corp Bhd to take over the operations of KTMB.

Thus, the corporate restructuring had to be put on hold to give way to MMC to do its due diligence for the takeover proposal.

Although the move by MMC has raised many eyebrows as to why it was interested in the ailing railway corporation, according to some experts, the timing was right for a buyout for KTMB.

The completion of KTMB's double-tracking project in a few years is expected to be the catalyst for the viability of KTMB's operations and return to profitability.

The final stretch of the double-tracking project from Gemas to Johor Baru is expected to be completed in 2016.

KTMB is also expanding its fleet with the introduction of electric train services with six-car train sets costing a total of RM1.89bil.

But the attempt to privatise KTMB saw some oppositions from the Railway Union of Malaya that is against private party taking over the railway company.

At the end of the day, whether it's a change of management or privatisation of KTMB, what really matters is that KTMB should be self-sustainable with improved and reliable services.

The exercise, of course, should be done after taking into consideration the livelihood and welfare of its 5,500 employees.

In a gesture of goodwill, the Japanese government has distributed its train coaches to Asean countries, with Thailand receiving 126 of them.

More than 70 electric train coaches were handed over to Indonesia.

“The coaches are a gift from Japan,” said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) president Dr Aminuddin Adnan.

KTMB paid for sea cargo transportation costs and adjustments made to the coaches’ undercarriage in order to make them suitable for railway tracks in the country.”

The train coaches, now named Harimau Malaya (Malayan Tigers) were unveiled at the Wakaf Baru railway station recently.

Dr Aminuddin said that KTMB spent “close to RM6.5 million” to make the 14 coaches available in the country.

“The investment is expected to be recouped within five years, and we are confident the coaches can continue operating for at least another 10 years.

“These coaches are expected to boost the railway services in the east coast sector from Tumpat to Singapore. These blue coaches will officially come into service in early 2012,” he said.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said although all the equipment has arrived, there was a problem with installation.

"Yes, it is behind schedule. The equipment has been delivered, but there is an installation problem. Maybe the contractor has to increase manpower in installation," he said, adding that the new system would probably take off in July.

The new RM85.88mil system was supposed to replace the old ticketing system last month, but to date, the project was only 72% complete, said contractor Hopetech Sdn Bhd general manager Hasrat Nazarudin Abdul Rahman.

Kong said the system would be installed at all 53 KTM Komuter stations, adding that the Government would not incur extra cost due to the delay.

When asked if the contractor would be penalised for late delivery, he said it "depends on the final report" after work is completed.

Kong was speaking to reporters after visiting the Padang Jawa KTM Komuter station here Thursday.

Two other contractors tasked with upgrading disabled, parking and pedestrian facilities at various stations, with contracts worth RM1.2mil and RM15.8mil respectively, told the minister that their projects were on schedule and almost completed.

Kong said he has also asked for the canopies at stations to be extended to accomodate the new six-car KTM Komuter trains.

"The new trains are too long, and the current canopy only covers about half the train. We will extend the canopies, as well as seats in the waiting area and ensure there is adequate lighting," he said.

The move would be of convenience to passengers during rainy weather as well as improve the security of those travelling at night, he said.

MMC Corp Bhd expects to complete due diligence on Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) by between July and August this year, its group managing director Datuk Hasni Harun said.

The due diligence is for MMC to participate in the proposed privatisation of the national rail company. “We have appointed consultants.

We are at 30 per cent of the (due diligence) exercise now. There are still 70 per cent to complete before we can forward our privatisation proposal to the government,” Hasni told Business Times.

KTMB is currently incurring losses averaging RM200 million a year and Hasni said MMC’s proposal will be aimed primarily at turning around the rail company.

Acceptance of the proposal will, however, be the sole prerogative of the government.

“We feel we have a business model for the government to consider,” he said. Earlier reports said that MMC, a construction and infrasructure company, plans to pump in as much as RM1 billion to take control of KTMB’s operations.

This is not the first attempt by MMC to take over the rail company’s operations.

The company, together with Gamuda Bhd, was eyeing to privatise KTMB and take over its assets in 2003.

The consortium had held preliminary discussions with the government but nothing materialised.

“We are submitting the privatisation proposal because we feel we can do it. Obviously, we will propose pragmatic financial model and business model for KTMB to move forward,” Hasni said.

Reports put KTMB's accumulative net losses at RM1.45 billion up to 2008 and was unable to finance its operational costs and pay debts.

The rail operator's deep losses since it was corporatised in 1992 has been blamed on high operating costs. It made a net profit of between RM9 million and RM15 million from 1993 to 1995 before falling into the red again in the following years.

Hasni also clarified that MMC was not immediately looking at buying over Penang Port, as claimed in recent reports.

"It (taking over Penang Port) has nothing to do with MMC. The submission of proposal was made by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary through Seaport Terminal, not MMC," he explained. :lol:

He said Penang Port was a big unit, handling one million TEUs (twenty-equivalent units) of containers but there was also a ferry business in its operations that has been incurring losses.

"As a listed entity, we would not want to acquire businesses that need to turn around first. We may buy later, but only the port business. We are not going to buy Penang Port as it is today because its ferry business is losing money," Hasni said.

ON TRACK: Listing of Gas Malaysia, Malakoff will raise sufficient funds for it to take over national railway operator, say analysts

MMC Corp Bhd is raising funds for its planned takeover of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) through the listing of its subsidiaries, analysts said.

Business Times reported last December that MMC, a construction, power and port group, was planning to pump up to RM1 billion to take control of the national railway operations.

MMC has began due diligence on the proposed KTMB privatisation and expects to complete it between July and August.

KTMB is currently incurring losses averaging RM200 million a year.

MMC is targeting to list Gas Malaysia Bhd on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia in the current quarter and raise RM750 million.

It also plans to relist Malakoff Corp Bhd in the first half of next year.

M&A Securities Sdn Bhd said Gas Malaysia's listing was likely to raise funds for MMC's proposed acquisition of KTMB.

"This is similar to the purpose of relisting Malakoff," it said in its latest research note.

MMC group managing director Datuk Hasni Harun had said the proposed initial public offering for Malakoff, MMC's flagship power utility company, was going to be "very big".

On the rationale of listing its subsidiaries, Hasni said MMC was focused on strengthening its business capabilities.

M&A Securities has recommended a "buy" call on MMC, with a new fair value of RM3.47.

This is based on expectations that the MMC-Gamuda Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) joint venture will win more MY Rapid Transit (MRT) tunnelling jobs from MRT 2 and MRT 3, which are expected to be tendered out in 2013 for around RM12 billion.

MMC-Gamuda KVMRT last month won the RM8.28 billion tunnelling job for MRT 1 and expects to start work by January next year.

MMC was up one sen yesterday to close at RM2.74.
