Before you posted photos, I supposed AIG has no lighting at all! What about the front side of AIG ? NO lighting ? ENDOPHINS October 2nd, 2005, 11:29 AM Quote from www.aiggig.com :) AIG Tower stands at 1 Connaught Road Central, commanding harbour views from the site formerly occupied by The Furama Hotel, between The Ritz Carlton and Hutchison House. It will provide some 450,000 square feet of prime office space and is described as a ‘pure’ office building with prestigious street-level entrances and a ‘porte-cochere’ covered drive-in. AIG will be the anchor-tenant in the property, occupying six of the 26 office floors, each of between 13,000 -16,000 square feet. The building is owned and developed by Bayshore Development Group Limited; a consortium formed by affiliates of AIG, CapitaLand and Lai Sun, and is designed by international architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), whose other projects include Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, Sears Tower in Chicago, Canary Wharf in London, and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. SOM’s design of AIG Tower is inspired by two traditional icons of Hong Kong, namely the Chinese junk and the lantern. During the day, the Chinese junk image is represented by the high-rise profile of the building with its sail like form. This allusion also accounts for aspects of the design such as the detailing of the horizontal ‘struts’ on the curtain wall. At night, the lantern image dominates by inspiring a unique lighting concept captured in the curtain wall that gently illuminates the building and reinforces the transparency of its ‘skin’ like a lantern. Vertical fins rise from the curtain wall base facing Murray Road that lead up to the roof where powerful searchlights will project beams of light into the night sky. The overall design stands as a new landmark and icon on Hong Kong’s spectacular skyline. Aboveday October 2nd, 2005, 12:41 PM "the lantern image dominates by inspiring a unique lighting concept captured in the curtain wall that gently illuminates the building and reinforces the transparency of its ‘skin’ like a lantern." thats mean the tower will glowing like this forever....wow Bahraini Spirit October 2nd, 2005, 01:19 PM Cool, I really like it I second that, fits in really well. This elegant, modern tower, with its glimmering lights, has added yet another icon to our skyline. But, the opening of the tower is doubly significant because it also represents a homecoming for the company. Founded in Shanghai in 1919, AIG is one of the very few US companies that can trace its roots back to China. Since then, AIG has grown to become one of the world's leading insurance and financial conglomerates. AIG withdrew from the Mainland market in the 1950s, but returned to its 'home territory' in 1992 to tap the enormous business opportunities arising from China's breathtaking development. In Hong Kong, AIG started business in 1930 – right on the spot we are standing tonight. The business model must have worked well, because in 1968 they moved to the landmark AIA Building on Stubbs Road, a building that still dominates the area today. And now, after almost four decades of growth, the company's flagship building and regional HQ comes back to Central. Like many of the 3800-odd international companies with regional operations in Hong Kong, AIG has been able to take full advantage of our position as the pre-eminent international financial services centre in Asia. Our free capitalist economy, level playing field for business, and sound regulatory framework have nurtured entrepreneurship and myriad business activities. A high concentration of world-class banks, insurers and reinsurers makes Hong Kong a natural choice for conducting region-wide insurance business and operations. Hong Kong also excels in professional services, such as financial planning, asset management, debt financing and capital formation. Last year, Hong Kong was the largest equity fund-raiser in Asia, eclipsing even Tokyo. Just last week, figures showed that Hong Kong was the second largest recipient of foreign direct investment in Asia, and 7th in the world. We have positioned ourselves as the prime location for multinationals to manage their regional and Mainland business operations. We have decades of experience in the Mainland market. Our market operates within a sound and trusted legal system. We have well-established global links, a free flow of capital, a critical mass of foreign investors, and a world-class financial and communications infrastructure. AIG's regional headquarters reinforces Hong Kong's position as an international financial centre and premier insurance hub. We have about 180 insurers operating here - the highest concentration in Asia. They include multinational insurers, professional reinsurers and specialist insurers engaging in captive, mortgage, credit, marine and other business. Hong Kong's total gross premiums reached HK$123 billion (US$16 billion) in 2004. Our insurance penetration is now among one of the highest in the world, sharing the same ranking as the US. More noteworthy is the fact that Hong Kong's insurance industry has maintained double-digit annual growth throughout the past decade. This sustained growth does not only highlight our underlying infrastructural strength and resilience, but also our world-class regulatory system that instils confidence in market development. I am very pleased to see that AIG will continue to use Hong Kong as its regional headquarters to manage your Asia-Pacific business. The opening of the new AIG Tower is a milestone for AIG's operations in Hong Kong and the region. It represents a strong commitment to Hong Kong and a vote of confidence in our future. With the Hong Kong economy performing well, and continued liberalisation of the insurance and financial markets in the Mainland and other emerging economies in the region, AIG is poised for strong and steady growth in the future. I would like to wish AIG all the very best for the future and a hearty welcome home to Central. Thank you. vincent October 7th, 2005, 01:48 AM i dont think they wil litup the tower like this anymore, and the pic was taken by the gov last year, the tower was litup for one night only for taking official pic ......actually the lighting system was installed, but seems nobody is going to turn it on again... :) maybe they want to wait til the tower is full first? Aboveday October 12th, 2005, 12:31 PM maybe they want to wait til the tower is full first? I believe it is already full ... :) philip October 13th, 2005, 09:07 AM Hong Kong looks like one giant neon sign. Rachmaninov October 13th, 2005, 07:09 PM maybe they want to wait til the tower is full first? I believe it might be one of those policies of saving 1.5% energy in government buildings, as proposed by our Chief Executive Donald Tsang. WTH!!? vincent October 15th, 2005, 01:09 AM well, cladding is like a mirror, if you put a green paper in front of it, the "mirror" looks green. If you put a blue paper in front of it, it looks blue. That's refering to this shot which the background is a green mountain. If you take pics from kowloon, the building got reflection of the blue sky. Of couse, it can be light-blue or kind of silver if the weather is cloudy. And that "AIG" is a large screen. Aboveday October 15th, 2005, 12:19 PM great shot Skybean. snoopy October 15th, 2005, 06:06 PM wow.. beautiful building, when i go back to hk i have to buy a lot of memory cards to take lots of pics of the buildings lol. does anyone know how tall it is? sorry if you said it back there earlier... hopefully the new BAC in Toronto will look like this sorta... some_stupid_nut October 15th, 2005, 08:18 PM Wow looks really nice!
