It was difficult for me to establish a Sennar thread. I am just anticipating the images since I been very curious for some time. All I had ever seen from this city is the local dam. It was the capital of the Funj Sultanate too.

This is my first time seeing images of this city, nice to see some ruins are left over as well. Speaking of the Finj of Sinja Sultanate, how far did it's territory expand ? The Funj migrated north into the Sinja area correct, during the 1400-1500's, which area were they originally located prior to Sinja ? Also, this particular area was part of Alodia also ?

The funj originated from around the sudd in southern Sudan.
in the 15th century the funj moved northwards to flee fighting with their rivals the shiluk and lead by Amara dunqus conquered the southern regions of Abdallah jammas(the gatherers) Kingdom founding the sultunate of sennar. The funj where a minority in sennar and constituted the upper class of society over time they adopted the religion of the region(islam) and intermixed with the population.

off course I dont mind, ive seen about every nook and craany of khartoum state, also ive been to shendi, Merowe, rufaa, port sudan, kassala and Gadaref never been to Sinja yet though:)

thanx for welcoming kitayabi, Sinnar is the largest city in Sennar state,it is where the famous Sennar Dam is. While Sinja is the political capital of the state, They are 20 km apart. Other cities in Sennar state are: El-Souki and El-Dindir
