thanks hopefully I will be contributing more now am back home. Arkawit is in the red sea hills. It has a mist eco system where moisture evaporating from the red Sea clings on to the hills, turning the barren rock green.

Wow really nice pictures amjad what a great city

It's really cool to see different parts of Sudan, when I go, I only go to Khartoum,Omdurman, and Bahri, but once I went to Dongola for two weeks.

أركويت .. الفردوس المهمل في شرق السودان

تولي ولاية البحر الأحمر اهتماماً كبيراً بمصيف أركويت الواقع ضمن سلسلة جبال على ارتفاع ثلاثة آلاف متر فوق مستوى البحر، بعد عقود من الإهمال. وتمثل المنطقة، 200 كلم جنوبي بورتسودان، فردوساً لشرق السودان ذو الصيف القاسي.

وتعتبر أركويت التي تبعد كيلومترات معدودة عن ساحل البحر الأحمر المنطقة الأعلى من حيث الارتفاع، ما أكسبها طقساً معتدلاً طوال السنة وهو ما جعلها منطقة جذب سياحي.

وحسب حامد بشير أحد أعيان منطقة أركويت، للشروق، فإن الجمال الذي تتمتع به المنطقة اكتشفه الإنجليز إبان استعمارهم للسودان، حيث وجدوها مناسبة كمصيف بنوا فيه فنادق وقصراً رئاسياً.

وزار الإنجليز أركويت لأول مرة عند إنشائهم لخط السكة الحديد بين مدينتي هيا وبورتسودان، فأعجبوا بها فأنشأوا بها طرقاً مسفلتة وبنوا بها ثكنات للجيش واستراحة لحكمدار السودان.

طبيعة ساحرة


السلطات بدأت تولي أركويت العناية اللازمة ويؤكد شريف المليك معتمد محلية سنكات التي يتبع لها مصيف أركويت لقناة الشروق، أن العوامل الطبيعية مثل اعتدال طقس المنطقة في الصيف وجمال شتائها الضبابي جعل منها منطقة جاذبة تهوى إليها أفئدة السواح بجانب طبيعتها الجبلية المتفردة.

وتنتشر في المنطقة أشجار الزقوم والصبار، كما تضم ضريح أمير الشرق عثمان دقنة، أحد القادة الأسطوريين إبان الثورة المهدية، بجانب جبل الست الذي تدور حوله العديد من الحكايات.

ويقول حامد بشير أحد أعيان أركويت إن زوجة الحاكم العام للسودان إبان حقبة الاستعمار الإنجليزي اعتادت الجلوس أعلى جبل الست لشرب قهوة الصباح والاستمتاع بشروق الشمس، وكأنها تخرج من مياه البحر.
