Will get some up soon though! Nice one.:okay: bobalania October 30th, 2009, 05:20 PM :) I'll post them here, and probably create a thread for M'Boro Skyline etc. once i've got some decent ones. lms October 30th, 2009, 11:17 PM When i get time i will get some pics on here bobalania October 31st, 2009, 03:46 PM ^ Thanks Ims, its finding the best view to get the whole skyline in, or a good idea of it. As also with the naked eye, you get the Industrial and all the bridges skyline in as well which makes it much better, but you can't usually see these on camera. Could do with getting a panorama shot. :) hollow man November 2nd, 2009, 12:07 AM Come on where's all the pics!?!?! I want to see em !!! bobalania November 2nd, 2009, 11:25 AM ^ Yep will get some up a) when i get chance to go out (only 17 so cant drive yet, and live quite a way away) b) when i have a good enough camera and c) when i find the best view point thats accessible, as the best views are from the tees fly over or on the a 66 through the Boro for the skyline, so obviously quite hard to get those. We need to get some up with some blue sky. These photos are brilliant, but don't give the true representation of Middlesbrough's whole skyline, although give a good idea i suppose. Need to get forsakenarchitecture's photos up here too. :) lms November 17th, 2009, 04:49 PM These were just to get the ball rolling ,Im going to try and get out to take a load of photos around Middlesbrough in the next couple of weeks to put on this thread .Bob maybe you could get some of Stockton and the surrounding area. bobalania November 17th, 2009, 05:47 PM Great! Get as many of the Skyline as possible! :D We need to show people it! :P Yes, i will do, next time i'm at the Infinity Bridge i'll grab a better camera and get some from there. Stockton's skyline looks half decent from some aspects. forsakenarchitecture November 17th, 2009, 07:06 PM Great! Get as many of the Skyline as possible! :D We need to show people it! :P Here's a panoramic view of the town centre from Gurney House: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2665/4112130125_a13cf575c6_o.jpg bobalania November 18th, 2009, 11:54 AM WOW! Great. What camera did you use? Would it be possible for you to copy those photos you posted in the full summary of projects thread up here too? You can just copy the text if you go into edit post and then just re post it here if you know what i mean. :P Thanks. :) forsakenarchitecture November 18th, 2009, 01:20 PM It's a friends Nikon D60 with standard kit lens. I've been saving my pennies and hopefully I'll get my hands on a Nikon D300 within two weeks and I'll be back in action. Thanks, glad you like it. First time I've stitched together a panoramic shot and it doesn't quite link on the right but shows the nice view from up there. Oh, and yes I'll put the other photos in here :) Nice shots from the river there lms, I've not seen any photos from the river itself before! forsakenarchitecture November 18th, 2009, 01:24 PM Views of Middlesbrough from the roof of Gurney House: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2794/4100500595_cb9ddd0df2_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2784/4100501073_f0d491d344_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2536/4100500813_795c531db6_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2766/4101472948_5fec2946e9_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2756/4101472720_ed01aac92c_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2773/4101473174_d8c6438e06_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2671/4101473402_3473ae5008_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2635/4100718421_d3cb21647b_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2722/4101472466_00dac5c055_o.jpg (September 2009) bobalania November 18th, 2009, 02:24 PM Thanks for that, btw, don't think you answered in other thread - how did you get on Gurney House? Sorry if you have and I've missed it. :P We must get some up of other areas in Teesside, as its becoming a middlesbrough Photography thread rather than a Teesside photography thread. TownPlanningNE November 18th, 2009, 03:15 PM Some really good photographs there forsakenarchitecture! When was the A66 built that cuts through them buildings? I mean the part in the centre that has buildings very close on either side? Has it always been a main road or was it an actual street at some point? bobalania November 18th, 2009, 03:30 PM hmmm..,. i'll try and find that out, Ims might know? I'm not sure when it was built, i guess in the 70s. I was just once a normal road i think and buildings were knocked down to make way for it. Will check, and i think theres a couple of photos before it was built. When driving through there it does give quite a unique view as your driving at the same height as the top floor of some buildings and close to a couple of high rises. TownPlanningNE November 18th, 2009, 03:32 PM I have actually passed through there a couple of times over the last week and I was impressed as to how 'city like' it felt, especially with the rest of the skyline in the background and this raised motorway cutting through the streets. I thought it must have just been a normal road at one point, or even have buildings there once. bobalania November 18th, 2009, 03:49 PM aha, it is, its one of the best views you get form there, but its hard to get photos on there to show people what its really like. I'm almost certain there were buildings there before that have been knocked down to make way for the A66. lms November 19th, 2009, 02:05 AM The elevated A66 was built in the mid 1980s smashing its way through the commercial heart of Middlesbrough leading to the destruction of several architecturally important buildings at the Bottom of Marton Road including the massive Royal Exchange ,Star and Garter Hotel, Masonic Hall etc and totally changing the look of Exchange Place. bobalania November 19th, 2009, 06:13 PM Thanks for explaining that. Yeah, it must have spoilt Middlesbrough a lot, shame i wasn't there to see it before. :( Same goes for Stockton when they built castlegate and the swallow and knocked all those lovely buildings down. lms November 19th, 2009, 09:20 PM Thanks for explaining that. Yeah, it must have spoilt Middlesbrough a lot, shame i wasn't there to see it before. :( Same goes for Stockton when they built castlegate and the swallow and knocked all those lovely buildings down. Unfortunately alot of the time they replace fantastic old buildings with not very well thought out new buildings that only have a life of 30 - 40 yrs then they are deemed unfashionable and out of date bobalania November 20th, 2009, 12:18 AM Yes, its obviously all about money now and there is no passion in good architectural buildings that will actually improve the look of the area and make people proud of it. This is one of the main reasons why i want to get into this sort of thing, to bring back some quality to our area and some thought going in to the town(s). hollow man November 20th, 2009, 08:05 PM Very nice photos, keep em coming!! :) bobalania November 20th, 2009, 09:00 PM I'll have to get some of our Infintiy Bridge photos up here! Here's two shots of Redcar Wharf and the Corus site. While Corus will be mothballed, Redcar Wharf will remain in operation. http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/832/19625913qh.jpg http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2848/dsc4448.jpg There are now two remaining ore-unloaders. Ore-Unloader No.1 was carefully dismantled in 2008. Details of the demolition from Thompsons of Prudhoe (http://www.thompsonsofprudhoe.com/N26-Ore-Unloader-No1--Corus-UK-Redcar-Wharf.html): Ore Un-loader No.1 - Corus UK, Redcar Wharf In 1969 the British Steel Corporation constructed a major ore terminal near the mouth of the River Tees. Opened in 1973, the terminal was equipped with two conventional grab-type Ore-Unloaders capable of handling iron ore, coal and concentrates. Ore Un-loader No.1, supplied to a William Arrol design, was capable of a 2000 tonnes per hour discharge rate. It operated until 1995 when the refurbishment of the adjacent Ore Un-loader No.3 (which had been added subsequently) rendered it surplus to requirements. Unloader No.1 was parked in the stops at the end of its tracks, isolated and left in place until 2008 when a rise in the world scrap prices gave the opportunity to recover the cost of its disposal. Thompsons were awarded the contract to dismantle the structure. The Ore-Unloader weighed approximately 1500 tonnes and stood at a height of 66m. The structure was dismantled into sections using oxy/propane hot cutting equipment. The sections, each weighing approximately 65t, were lifted from their resting position via the aid of a 1000 tonne crane and transferred into a processing area at ground level. All access stairways to the structure had been previously removed for safety reasons and the only access available to operatives was via a 135ft MEWP (manual elevated working platform) and two man-baskets suspended via 100 tonne cranes. Prior to commencement of work each day Thompsons Site Management met with Corus' appointed Management Team to discuss the proposed work and to plan and agree the lifting procedures. Each section of the structure had to be removed with extreme care, due to the presence of three live conveyors located directly beneath the Unloader (which were used to discharge iron ore and coal removed from ships berthed along the dockside). The demolition team consisted of a team of eight Demolition Operatives and their Site Supervisor (who worked directly alongside the team). In addition two 360o demolition specification excavator machines, a Caterpillar 750 (equipped with pulveriser) and a Hitatchi 600 (equipped with hydraulic sheers) handled the scrap. The contract ran for a five week period, 7 days per week. The demolition works were conducted under a possession period due to ship movements (delivery to the Wharf) and demolitions progressed through adverse weather conditions (October to November on the river mouth!). The Corus Group were pleased with the operatives work and the removal of the hazardous structure. The whole project was completed without accident or incident and the Group Safety Manager commended the team. bobalania February 14th, 2010, 03:42 PM Great bit of info. there, some good photos. Bob you can get access from over the road from the Flatts Lane country park or the last right hand turn on the road out of Eston to Redcar through the housing estate. There are loads of other ways but those are the two I use. The views from the top are unbelieveable ,you realise how urban Teesside is bobalania May 9th, 2011, 11:35 PM Great. :) Thanks for that. I want to go up over the summer. Also on a variety of different times, i.e. sunrise, sunset and to see illuminations etc. The North East HUB June 18th, 2012, 10:21 AM Olympic 2012 Torch Relay – North East of England Photos & Comments featuring torchbearer Claire Paczko. http://wp.me/p28ppz-10j The North East HUB December 16th, 2012, 03:28 PM Voting is now open!
