HCC Gwen Stephenson president to retire next year

Hillsborough Community College President Gwendolyn W. Stephenson will retire in June, ending a tenure that began in 1997.
She previously was president of St. Louis Community College.
HCC expanded during her leadership and now has five campuses. Enrollment is nearly 45,000 students.
Stephenson also oversaw construction of the SouthShore Center campus in Ruskin, the first green community college campus in Florida, and the construction of a 400-bed apartment complex at the Dale Mabry Campus for students.
She is the second area community college president recently to announce plans for retirement. Carl Kuttler Jr., president of St. Petersburg College, plans to retire after the board of trustees names a replacement.
