View Full Version : Tall commercial buildings – Do I meet requirements?

I remember reading somewhere on this forum that the requirements for stage 8 commercial buildings is 20,000+ in city and 250,000+ metro. Well my current city has a population of 105,000 and I have about 275,000 in metro. So what's the deal? I have no stage 8 buildings whatsoever. The land value is high, I have a municipal airport and a convention center. I thought by now business would be booming. Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy!!! :wallbash:

I think those requirements are slightly wrong really. To get proper Commercial Skyscrapers i needed 150,000 pop in my city with 40,000 commercial, and an metro of ~600,000. Took me bloody ages to do! :)

If you have no 4x4 lots and a really high demand and good access (roads, rail, etc) then it will never happen.

Keep in mind - they are hard to get for a reason. ;)

Ploppable buildings...that's a good idea. When I first read the stats I thought they were kind of off, it seemed easy. And yeah, you're right, they are hard to get for a reason. 600,000 in metro? Jeeezzzzz, that's going to take a while. Took me forever just to get 275,000. Thanks. :tongue3:

Here's that post where I read the stats.

That's not enough yet. You definitely need a bigger metro, and a large CO$$$ contiguous market.

Oh ok, kind of figured. I've read a few posts that say that installing Rush Hour makes it easier, anyone else notice this? :? I have yet to get Rush Hour but can see how hellpfull it would be with the monorails and all.

Hmmm...very interesting. From what I have seen the transportation systems are pretty neat. Thanks for the help!

Are you running Simcity 4 Rush Hour? If not, have you patched the game to the latest patch? There is this stage 8 bug in the pre-patched version that makes stage 8 not pop out.

Also are your citizens well educated? And how much do you have for commercial jobs. You need quite alot of jobs to have skyscrapers.

I would like to ask.. how do you guys make 4x4 lots? in my cities, i generally have 6x6 lots where 2 3x3 lots adjacent to each other... where both sides point to the road like below...

||<ooxx>||
||<ooxx>||
||<ooxx>||

do you have to demolish that area and rearrange the zone to make the 4x4 lot? or is it automatic?

I'd make bigger lots...6x10, or 8x10 (the 10 is the long.) overall, it's just more of an efficient use of space.

to make 4x4, hold down CTRL while zoning.

sometimes it'll automatically zone 4x4 for commercial, but rarely; I had similar problems and using CTRL helped a lot.

ahhh.. ok... so you can actually create those lots....I just let it automatically create lots... thanks....

by the way... what is the largest possible lot for commercial and residential?

The Contol suff dusn't work with me mate.............
I have to wait until the demand is extremly high befor (re)zoning some lots, and i usualy zone (4times) 4x3 so together is 8x6 (or 2times 4x3).

But does someone here got a level 8 building without any update or rush hour?

http://games4mac.de/media_g4m/reviews/simcity4/1.jpg

Because i've got like 8 medium citys with a population between 300.000 and 350.000 with like 10-20 $$$ commercial builings like the one above (far right) and allot more, but no level 8 building like the one above (tall white one).

Is it even possible to get level 8 buildings without an update or rush hour?

how do you know what are the level types of each building?... is there a site that specifies which are the levels of each building in SC4?....

i don't know the levels of each building... how would i know? I've been playing SimCity for a long time yet I haven't even see any some of the big buildings in their pictures....:D

That tall white building is called the "Pedriana Pharmauceticals". And it is one of the few stage 8 buildings that hire 7000+ CO§§§ people. To get it you'll need a very high commercial demand, and also a high number of commercial jobs existing in the region. Even so, everything depends on your luck. It's a 4 by 4 and hard to come by.

No, I don't think so you can get stage 8 without the patch. Before the patch there's a bug that prevents the player from getting stage 8. Everything was fixed in the patch.

That's my commercial downtown with 3 residential neighbours in Rush Hour.

The buildings that hire lots or have lots of people typically above 1000 are stage 8 buildings. Some stage 8s have 1401 jobs, others up to 4000 to 7000. The biggest for commercial are the 7000 plus ones. As for Residential, I've a Walkup Tower which conists of 4000+ residents, I've never gotten the Ong Condos before, not sure how much it has.

To get stage 8 commercial lots you need to zone as far away from dirty industry as possible and you also need to get about at least 50,000 commercial jobs. It also helps to have a high residential population and good transportation. ;-)

My city didn't get stage 8 commercial buildings until it had about 300,000 people and about 1 mill metro..

In the original game, I got my first and only level 8 building when my region had just hit 1 million. - Somewhat realistic IMO. After the patch they seem to be pretty easy to get, once you have a couple of connected cities going.

Ha - in my old city (all commercial based) there were some 4million jobs - it was a sea of blury commercial offices and 5 airport :lol: Now considering I had some 80% of all commercial jobs based in one massive city I never really saw any super talls - there were however so many 150m+ towers there that you could literally swear all the scrapers of reality had been dumped into this commerical mammoth :lol:

I've started up again. From anew, considering I was just near to breaking the 7mn mark last time before the game fucked up :( My population is already up to 200,000 after 2hrs play. I have a great knack for micro/macro-economics and I'm able to play this game without any mods, cheats or tweaks - all in the mind. I bet by tomorrow morning when I wake up I'll be past 0.5mn by lunchtime :)

OH.. i wish I have a faster machine to get big population at a shorter time... I'm just using the minimum requirement... :(
