The only thing I can remember about the Ground/Arena, --is that some businessmen owned it, ---so don't know if the businessmen want the Arena for something else ---and the football Club were told they had to look else where, ---but I read that Darlington FC had arranged to play their home games at Shildon, -----but now they have changed ---and will play at Bishop Auckland instead.

Manchester City attacker Adam Johnson’s wages are likely to torpedo any hopes Sunderland might have of signing him this summer.


The Sunderland-born winger could well leave the Etihad Stadium in the next few months after losing out on a Euro 2012 place with England, simply because he has not played enough football over the course of the season.

But should he ask and be allowed to leave the Premier League champions, he will be far too pricey for Sunderland, with City likely to ask in the region of £10m and Johnson’s £85,000 per week wages being massive stumbling blocks.

TWO South American clubs are battling for the services of Sunderland’s unwanted Argentine international Marcos Angeleri.


The 29-year-old wants out of England after a miserable couple of years in which he has made a handful of appearances and it looked last month as though Argentine side Independiente would give him the escape route he craved.

But now it appears as though he could rejoin former club Estudiantes after spending time training with them and the two rival clubs are set to hammer it out for the suddenly in-demand defender’s signature over the next few days.

Yeah your right mate, --these type of mini tournaments usually follow the same type of format, ---but like you say they are just friendly's--which help get the players into shape.

I was at the game on Friday night and while it was a disappointing score friendly results mean nothing my and there were 5/6 players missing who could well be in the starting line up for the first match v Arsenal. Our best two playes on the pitch were Meyler and Catts. The main concern I would have would be that we are in desperate need of two goal scoring strikers but MON is working on this.

A BLACK Cats programme which helps get Wearside teenagers fit for work is to run again.


Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light says it will hold the second of its Back on Track programmes for 16 to 19-year-olds after a successful launch at the beginning of this year.

Run with funding from Springboard, courses will last between 15 and 20 weeks and will give those enrolled on it the chance to get BTEC qualifications and the chance to improve numeracy and literacy skills.

The opportunity to get experience in football coaching, life skills and business administration is also available.

Sunderland AFC has signed a “significant seven-figure deal” with Team Korea, with the club’s badge being printed on the side of the sailing crew’s yacht for the America’s Cup.

The 18-month partnership was completed in time for the start of the new football season and will lead to other high-profile branding projects, with the Team Korea logos to go on show inside the Stadium of Light throughout Premier League games.

Yes it started this year along with the elite program which sunderland has top status in.

Trying to make sure young talent gets competitive playing time

That's weird. I've never heard of that before.
In fact I can't recall hearing much of the under 21s league at all, just the 1st team, reserves team and youth team (teenagers). Is this a new thing?

Yeah as brettred said it began this year, ---btw, --in addition to the 3 over age out field players, --each Club is also allowed an over age Goalie too.

So there's still the reserves, they've just this under 21 league too?

The matter has now been resolved, with Mr Wallace – who claimed the club backed down – signing up to its new supporters’ reward scheme.

However, SAFC Commercial Director Gary Hutchinson said the aim had not been not to prevent people from using the club’s name and identity, but to ensure they were not being misused.

“I fully understand the passion in the city,” he said. “As someone who was born in Hylton Red House and has lived in the city all his life.

“I understand the passion around football, how much the people in the city think of the club and how much the club thinks of its fans.

“We are very proud of our supporters wanting to wear their colours and wanting to support the club and be part of what we are doing.

“But we also need to protect the club.”

SUNDERLAND are hoping to wrap up a loan move for Senegalege centre-half Kader Mangane this weekend.


The Black Cats have agreed a deal with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal to take 6ft 5in defender Mangane on loan until the end of the season and he is expected on Wearside over the weekend to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Sunderland will head to Hong Kong this summer to take part in the prestigious Barclays Asia Trophy.

SUNDERLAND boss Martin O’Neill is pursuing interest in other strikers as well as Swansea City front-man Danny Graham.


The Black Cats made a firm bid for the £5m-rated 27-year-old this week, who Swansea have suggested they will only allow to leave if their bid to sign Stoke City’s former Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones succeeds.

But with other clubs, notably QPR, Norwich and Reading interested in signing the Gateshead-born striker, O’Neill is not confining his search for new striking talent purely to the Liberty Stadium.

He said: “I don’t want to talk about individuals at other clubs – that’s not my remit.

“But what I would say is that at this stage we do have several irons in the fire when it comes to reinforcing ourselves up front.

“We are looking at a variety of players, not just the one.”

CONNOR Wickham has been given the go-ahead to move to the Championship on a short-term loan deal after dropping down the pecking order following the arrival of Danny Graham, writes Chris Young.


Wickham has made significant strides this season and Martin O’Neill is anxious to ensure that progress is not halted by a lack of first-team action after Sunderland’s attacking ranks were boosted by the £5million deadline day capture of Graham.

Regarding this player, --- apparently he is still under contract, --and his Club are asking for about £4million, ---think SAFC have cooled interest in the player.

STEVEN Fletcher says Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet is “frighteningly” good – and now one of the the top goalkeepers in the game.


Mignolet received the North East Football Writers’ Player of the Year award for 2012 on Sunday, despite the claims of several Newcastle players who helped the Magpies finish in the top five last season.

Oh I'm not sure - the club's never had as much publicity, including the exciting Keane era. Newcastle fans would be advised to contain their remarks given that they're just one place above with an inferior goals difference ;)

It's worth a try, as we were going down, no doubt about it, as for Newcastle going down, stranger things have happened, personally I want niether to go down, football and supporting our teams is what both sets of supporters excel at, the supporters of both teams are top class and deserve better than what we are served up from the players.

I was really supprised when MON was sacked, --and didn't think the Club would go for Di Canio, --but as he's the new boss, --I'm prepared to give the man a chance, --and like most Sunderland fans hope he can keep us up, ---but whatever happens--I will still support the Club.

SAFC stars of the future could hail from Tanzania, thanks to a ground-breaking new partnership.


The club is lending its expertise to the East African nation, with the creation of a football academy programme which will nurture the sporting talent of the country’s youth.

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Dk Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, met with SAFC chairman Ellis Short and club chief executive Margaret Byrne for a tour of the Stadium of Light and Academy of Light today.
