The Sunderland-born winger could well leave the Etihad Stadium in the next few months after losing out on a Euro 2012 place with England, simply because he has not played enough football over the course of the season. But should he ask and be allowed to leave the Premier League champions, he will be far too pricey for Sunderland, with City likely to ask in the region of £10m and Johnson’s £85,000 per week wages being massive stumbling blocks. Published on Wednesday 17 October 2012 09:07 MAXIMISING the value of Sunderland AFC’s brand to sponsors and advertisers means walking a fine line. After the Echo highlighted the case of The Fort, our website was bombarded with comments from angry fans, who claimed the club had taken too hard a stance against the Monkwearmouth pub. SAFC had written to landlord Alan Wallace, threatening “further action” if he did not taken six flags bearing the club crest down from the windows. The matter has now been resolved, with Mr Wallace – who claimed the club backed down – signing up to its new supporters’ reward scheme. However, SAFC Commercial Director Gary Hutchinson said the aim had not been not to prevent people from using the club’s name and identity, but to ensure they were not being misused. “I fully understand the passion in the city,” he said. “As someone who was born in Hylton Red House and has lived in the city all his life. “I understand the passion around football, how much the people in the city think of the club and how much the club thinks of its fans. “We are very proud of our supporters wanting to wear their colours and wanting to support the club and be part of what we are doing. “But we also need to protect the club.” Read more http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/business/latest-news/we-must-protect-the-club-sunderland-boss-defends-club-over-safc-flag-row-and-says-the-black-cats-are-good-for-business-1-5034057 kingdom bhoy October 19th, 2012, 07:16 AM As I understand, --this under 21 League replaces the Reserves, --and it's more about bringing on and Developing the younger players. I'm guessing this isn't the publicity the club hoped for with this appointment. Oh I'm not sure - the club's never had as much publicity, including the exciting Keane era. Newcastle fans would be advised to contain their remarks given that they're just one place above with an inferior goals difference ;) kingdom bhoy April 2nd, 2013, 07:59 PM Got very mixed feelings on the Di Canio appointment but one things for certain it will not be dull. johnson293 April 2nd, 2013, 10:22 PM I know we aren't out of it yet, and certainly not gloating about anything... ok, except maybe the negative media attention this appointment has brought on SAFC. I can see this going one of two ways. I think he'll either give the players a gee-up, and get them to regain the passion that lifelong Sunderland fan Martin O'Neill had lost, and you'll get away from the drop zone. or He'll try and press a regime on them that they aren't ready for, and alienate and possibly publicly humiliate the some players, as he has done in the past, and it'll all go pear shaped. Things that work on League 1 and 2 level players, may not necessarily work on premiership players. It'll be interesting to watch from the outside, at least! :) eaim April 2nd, 2013, 10:58 PM I know we aren't out of it yet, and certainly not gloating about anything... ok, except maybe the negative media attention this appointment has brought on SAFC. It'll be interesting to watch from the outside, at least! :) It's worth a try, as we were going down, no doubt about it, as for Newcastle going down, stranger things have happened, personally I want niether to go down, football and supporting our teams is what both sets of supporters excel at, the supporters of both teams are top class and deserve better than what we are served up from the players. denm April 3rd, 2013, 12:41 PM I was really supprised when MON was sacked, --and didn't think the Club would go for Di Canio, --but as he's the new boss, --I'm prepared to give the man a chance, --and like most Sunderland fans hope he can keep us up, ---but whatever happens--I will still support the Club. denm April 8th, 2013, 12:30 PM Three strange goals in a 2-1 loss at Chelsea, ---another defeat --yet there are encouraging signs, and I thought we played really well especially in the first half -- personally I think we deserved something from the game, ---but thats gone now --and we are in the mire still,--still think we have a chance of staying up, --but it's getting harder each week. bigchrisfgb April 14th, 2013, 05:19 PM It pains me to say it but congratulations on today. Tyr April 16th, 2013, 01:53 AM What an amazing week for Co.Durham that was. Di Canio....as long as he keeps his mouth shut on politics and produces stuff like that he's welcome to stay. Really nice to see us playing well AND winning for once. This last season it seemed to be the case that we'd play amazing everywhere but in scoring and as a result lose and on those few odd occasions we did get something it would be out of a mediocre game where we scramble one in. denm April 16th, 2013, 08:52 AM Three deserved and very welcome points, --and it's so refreshing to see a more attack minded side, ---so well done to the Lads, --and lets keep it going. denm April 21st, 2013, 10:08 AM An excellent result, --and another three welcome points, ---keep it going Lads.:cheers: kingdom bhoy April 21st, 2013, 10:22 AM An excellent result, --and another three welcome points, ---keep it going Lads.:cheers: Massive win yesterday another 3/4 points should see us safe. Nice touch Ellis Short celebrating with SAFC fans in the Life of Riley pub in Sunderland city centre last night. denm April 22nd, 2013, 10:08 AM Massive win yesterday another 3/4 points should see us safe. Nice touch Ellis Short celebrating with SAFC fans in the Life of Riley pub in Sunderland city centre last night. Yeah I think maybe another 3 points should do the trick, --and yeah, --saw the photo of Mr Short in the bar, --he looked happy :) denm April 30th, 2013, 10:21 AM Took a hammering last night, ---a very poor second half was just not good enough, ---anyway, --take it on the chin, --and put it right next game.:ohno: kingdom bhoy May 6th, 2013, 11:51 AM Its going to be a very tense affair tonight.
