Basically, they are building a new arrival terminal near Ras Abu Abood Bridge near the entrace of the Cornish. It is to be completed by 2010. The old arrivals area will be joined with the departure area to increase its size. It is capable of handling 2770 pax per hour, and can increase to 3300 by 2015 (something which I dont understand, since the New Doha Airport will open by 2011!!!)
It will have 746 parking spaces and two floors in addition to Duty Free Areas and 8 baggage belts.
amrja October 23rd, 2009, 05:37 AM Could this be a sign that there might be an even bigger delay with the new airport?
Qatar Son 333 October 23rd, 2009, 09:40 AM Till today they are still expanding the facilities in the DIA... Just recently the completed the expansion of the VIP terminal...
Halawala October 23rd, 2009, 03:44 PM ITs stupid expanding the VIP Terminal; they should have expanded the main terminal building until the Premium Terminal to join all these buildings together instead of building a separate arrival building 2 kilometers away!
Qatar Son 333 October 23rd, 2009, 04:27 PM 2km :crazy2: whoa, hope it will have direct access to the main road...unless their expecting the passengers would be willing to travel 2km to get a taxi.....

Massilia October 26th, 2009, 10:35 AM Thanks Halawala... since you know the NDIA project pretty well, do you really see it opening in 2011?

Hmm.. I could see it open perhaps in Dec. 31st 2011 or mid 2012. They need at least 6 months to test the airport systems after completion. I hope they finish it in 2011.
fairul October 26th, 2009, 12:09 PM for the package i work with..construction wise...we should complete all the construction work by October 2010 (mind you..we have one of the biggest package for NDIA)..the runway systems to be handed over by May and July 2010 respectively...the integration testing and commisioning to complete by Jan 2011...we are working hard to achieve this milestone
back to the topic..i dont see why there's a need for another arrival terminal...it doesnt make sense to have a separate terminal...i agree with the comments above..might as well extend the current terminal to the VIP..
Halawala December 15th, 2010, 06:25 AM DOHA: The new arrivals terminal at the Doha International Airport (DIA) will open to passengers on Sunday, the DIA said yesterday.
The last flight operating through the existing arrivals area in the airport’s main terminal will be Emirates EK841 from Dubai, scheduled to land at DIA at
0830 hrs.Passengers on subsequent flights arriving at DIA will be directed to the new terminal where all arrival services, including immigration and baggage collection will be available.
The first flight operating through the new Doha Arrivals terminal will be Qatar Airways flight QR133 from Kuwait, scheduled to land at DIA at
1130 hrs. Access to the new facility is provided through C-Ring Road between the VIP roundabout and Ras Aboud flyover. Travellers and those receiving passengers arriving into Qatar by air have been advised to take note of the changes. Passengers who have parked their vehicles at the main terminal will be offered a free shuttle service to transport them back to the car park on their return to Qatar. The existing Arrivals area will be renamed as Departures & Transfers terminal from December 19.
Following the opening of the Doha Arrivals terminal, work will begin on expanding the Departures & Transfers terminal to provide larger check-in and transfer areas, as well as additional boarding gates and other amenities. The expansion will facilitate predicted growth in passenger traffic through Doha International Airport while the country prepares its state-of-the-art New Doha International Airport (NDIA), located four kilometres to the east.

Last I heard the runways are already handed over! They are just waiting for the passenger terminal. Is the Control Tower and Maintencence Hangers/Center complete? Hmm... seems an awful lot to complete before December 2011.

nope..we've yet to hand over the runways...physically the runways/taxiways are completed..still minor works on going for the airfield ground lighting (AGL Lights)..
so..back to the topic, who'll be the first to take photos of the new arrival hall?

Alrayyan December 19th, 2010, 10:43 AM Cool, this will serve the 2011 AFC Asian Cup better I guess :)
Massilia December 19th, 2010, 05:58 PM I tried the new terminal today :D It's definitely an improvement compared to the former one! More immigration counters, more e-gates, more luggage belts... it should come in handy before the new airport opens!
salman515 December 19th, 2010, 06:08 PM ^^ perfect time to travel :D
Do you guys know what will happen exactly to the old terminal ? I heard it might be for Qatar Airways flights. Personally, I think they should merge it with the departure terminal and add more gates and restaurants. just what the airport is missing.
Massilia December 19th, 2010, 10:33 PM ^^ perfect time to travel :D
I had to travel for a very good friend's birthday (I know he might be reading this:D) but I'm sad I missed the best national day and celebration in Qatar's history... please do even better next year:)
fairul December 21st, 2010, 03:28 PM i noticed this yesterday, (correct me if im wrong) that every single vehicle to enter the Arrival Hall compound has to go through the ticket booth and quite a number of traffic at the exit which has create bottleneck.
Alrayyan December 21st, 2010, 04:40 PM Because apparently parking or not you still have to pay a minimum of 2 riyals which made traffic....
