From HOK:
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
3,954 acres/1,600 hectares
HOK's plan for Al Joharah creates a modern urban oasis that capitalizes on the rapid expansion of metropolitan Riyadh and provides a new identity for the city's northward expansion. When fully developed, Al Joharah will accommodate a population of approximately 200,000 residents.
The plan incorporates principles from Western cities and New Urbanism while focusing on local context as the heart of the design. The five key elements include a downtown business district, a regional retail and entertainment district with a regional park, a research campus and office park district, and several neighborhood districts.
