Wow, looks terrific, really nice project, in terms of the area development that would be just the best project so far, still if it would be a bit lower due to the fact that it's location is too near to the Riga city historic centre protected area and it would harm the whole view of the right bank! IMO, they should whether cut down more than the half of the structure's height or just remove the skyscraper to some better place with the perspectives of highrise cluster because for that disctrict there wouldn't definately appear any more ideas of similar structure constructions! :dunno:

Hundreds of people from many countries of world over several years analysed where to build highrises in this city and - where not. There was made thorough analysis of skyline and visual impressions from hundreds of places, transport analysis, communications analysis, wind direction and air pollution analysis etc.

After this work there were designated numerous places in city to build highrises. More place than ever will be needed. Even more than analysis allowed.

But no - one man with big purse comes and says - I don't care and I want it where I like it. Disregarding everything - traffic jams to come, changed pollution pattern, visual impacts, laws.

Don't be like sheeps - this project shows why our country is where it is now - governed by a bunch of not too clever people and a society blindly agreeing to everything these people do. Don't support it, please!

As an investor, I would not invest my money from my purse ( :D ) in Rumbula, Spilve or any other place far away from Riga downtown. I think there is something more - that stupid latvian fear from all kind of high rise buildings (if we can count 24 floor building as so high-rise). GRINDEX Multifunctional building is ONLY 84 meters, not 500+ meters. This building would dissapear in NYC!

Laurijs, I think you missed this part of Gatis' comment: "Hundreds of people from many countries of world.." I somehow tend to think that these weren't just ordinary German senior citizens-tourists, but city-planning specialists. I understand - it is so cool to have such building built during hard times, but financial crisis does not mean that the brains of people should be switched off. Shlesers and his business supporters are the worst (even ignorant) populists ever been in power here in LV. The impunity with which these people try to rule in Riga, makes me think they forget that city is not their private property.

There are lots of really good sites for highrises designated in Riga, not that stupid as Rumbula or Spilve (in Spilve highrises have never been allowed - but next to it in Podrags some Estonian hotheads really dreamed about 60-floor highrises).

What about going some 300 metres south from the current location of project? There the transport problems are not hot anymore and you are allowed to build high. Or - just move over the Krasta Street to Daugava - there were two competing projects, each got 24 floors allowed. Now they have stopped, but permit is there!
What about going to the places between Zunds and Daugavgrīvas Street - build up to 40 floors, if you want! What about purchasing the already supported project at Hanzas Street, next to the Centre - for some months there is standing a shield and selling this project? What about all the locations along the airport road? What about strip between Andrejsala and Eksporta Street - exactly 24 floors allowed and detailed plan elaborated - and former project could be easily talked to some good deals! What about Mukusalas Street - there is allowed 16 floors and detailed planning is complete, location is sweet and everything can be done quickly, with applauses from all sides!

But no - be stubborn and go there, where you are not allowed and where is no good opportunity for transport organisation...

hm, interesting. I don't know what to say, but this sound like a lot of space that Riga does not need right now.

Grindeks debesskrāpis vietā, kur atļauti pieci stāvi.

Atgādināsim, ka "Grindeks" pie Salu tilta, kvartālā starp Lāčplēša, Maskavas, Bārddziņu un Mazo Krasta ielu uz uzņēmumam piederoša zemesgabala vēlējās būvēt 24 stāvu augstu ēku, solot projekta realizācijā ieguldīt ap 36 miljoniem eiro (ap 25,2 miljoniem latu). Problēma gan bija tā, ka līdz šim šajā teritorijā bijusi atļauta piecu stāvu apbūve, bet pēc pēdējiem grozījumiem pilsētas attīstības plānā - maksimums deviņu stāvu apbūve..

AS "Grindeks" padomes priekšsēdētājs Kirovs Lipmans oktborī izteicās, ka aicinājis atļaut šajā vietā būvēt viņa iecerēto debesskrāpi, norādot, ka viņam "sirds sāp", redzot šo degradēto rajonu ar "bijušajiem morgiem".

^ I really hope he won't manage to convince the city head architect ever! This monster cannot be allowed to be constructed there, it's ridiculous and inappropriate, the best decission would be 9 floors indeed! :ohno:

Ot at least he could move over to the other side of Krasta iela and easily build his 24 floors.

Now, isn't this the real reason why Dripe and Princis had to go?
