I came across these two photos on Facebook and was thinking OMG, jo'burg has really gone down since I was there. I grew up in J'burg but now live in the English Lake District. I know things were bad for a while but I thought it was getting better. if these photos are anything to go by J'burg has become a dirty slum. When I was a teenager we used to go to the nightclub in this photo but look at it now. Do you have any photos of j.burg now good or bad.

Drew, take a look at all the developments, the Gautrain, the inner city renewal, and all the photos of upgrades, the BRT etc.

Joburg is improving all the time. There are still run down areas, and some areas have gone backwards, but mostly its COOKING!

yes that's where i saw the photos - sorry I don't seem to be able to upload them here. I'm glad to see that it's not the whole of jo'burg that is bad, the way the facebook group goes on its as if the whole city has gone down with no mention of inner city renewal.

rofl, just imagine some tourists who've watched that movie go to CT next year & encounter a local at Hout Bay who was annoying them & they use that one.

What a coincidence I also watched it yesterday morning. Cool story, Think it demonstrates well what happened to the Hillbrow after the end of Apartheid. It's good to see that they have made many improvements in the Hillbrow. Now they just have to open up the Hillbrow tower to the public, and make something of the Ponte

Joburg has always been a city in flux - constantly changing, constantly reinventing itself. It's wild and crazy, and certainly not boring. The change isn't always comfortable, but it keeps the city buzzing and attracts as many people as it manages to scare away. It's certainly not an easy city to understand, there is no black and white, and is really one big mash of spaghetti Bolognese. That's why I love (and sometimes hate) it, and I don't think I would like to have it any other way.

That's what's happen(ing) to Joburg. The Death of Joburg - aside from being racist, bigoted and victimised - just doesn't understand Joburg, and is simply one big rotten banana.
