Kitwe is the second largest city in Zambia, with a population of 363,734 (2000 census). It is the hub of the Copperbelt, Zambia's copper-mining region, in the Province of that name, with a complex of mines on its north-western and western edges.
Kitwe includes a number of townships and suburbs including Nkana East, Nkana West, Mindolo and Garneton. The city is sometimes referred to as Kitwe-Nkana. As well as the mines, the city has light industrial areas manufacturing building materials, furniture and consumer goods.

2nd largest city in Zambia, geographically near or on route towards Lubumbashi in DRC. Feel free to contribute, this one for me alone will be a difficult task.

Lived in Kitwe from 1979 to 89 and loved every part of life there. It had the best climate of any city/town I have visited in the world and I have visited 10 countires in 4 continents.
A beautiful calm city with an easy pace of life, I always thought Kitwe was smaller than Ndola and so the 3rd largest city in Zambia...
Has it overtaken Ndola in size now?
Thanks for the pic updates Storm Shadow. The Barclays and Kitwe Hardware still look the same, the others I am not sure of.
One anusing detail in your map of Zambia is that they have forgotten to show Kitwe on it :)
Shoprite seems to be a new supermarket chain whcih wasnt there in 89 when we left Zambia. Is this near NIEC stores in Kitwe?
Very Happy to see a Kitwe thread thanks for opening it Storm Shadow...:)
