Marriott Announces New York City's First Residence Inn
WASHINGTON, John Marriott, executive vice president of Marriott International, Inc., joined by New York City's Mayor Bloomberg and G. Holdings Corporation chairman and CEO Harry Gross, today announced plans to open the first Residence Inn by Marriott in New York City -- a 357-suite hotel located at Avenue of the Americas and West 39th Street. Construction begins today, and the hotel is scheduled to open by the end of 2005.
The project is part of the Bryant Park Tower, a 43-story building that will also include 96 studio and one-bedroom rental apartments, street-level retail space totaling approximately 8,500 square feet, a bar overlooking Bryant Park and onsite valet parking. The hotel will be owned by G. Holdings Corporation and operated as a Residence Inn franchise.
In reference to the centennial anniversary of Times Square, Mayor Bloomberg said, "At 100 years old, Times Square has never looked better, and I salute John Marriott and Harry Gross for working together on a project that will be a wonderful addition to the area."
