Kwidzyn Castle | Kwidzyn, Poland

Kwidzyn – the second biggest and most important teutonic castle in Poland. The construction was built at the beginning of the 14th century and was the seat of the Pomezania Province Chapter. The castle is made of a mutual complex with a former cathedral, presently a parish church of the 14th century. The castle itself is quadrilateral-shaped (50 x 43 m) and is connected by narrow, covered gallery leaning against pillars with a tower called Gdanisko. In the antique interiors – a museum presenting the history of the city and the castle. In the Miłosna suburb a centre of horse riding. Worth visiting – the gothic teutonic castle.

Hey Raine I always thought this castle wasn't built by Teutonic Knights. As far as I know It was a bishop's headquater. Correct me if I am wrong!!!

9.5/10 Shape of this castle is even better than Malbork

now I'm not so sure, probably it was built by Teutonic Knights, but later it began as a residence of Pomeranian bishops for a long time...

It was built for Pomesanian chapter (kapituła Pomezańska in Polish), a community of clerics who lived together and which duty was election of bishop. There was another castle in Kwidzyn, wich was bishop's residence (it was dismantled in 17th century). The castle in Kwidzyn has very similar layout to Teutonic Knights castles, and Teutonic Knights had very much influence on chapter, and that is why it is confused.

I would also discuss if it is - architectonically - the second important castle after Malbork (considering not only Teutonic Knights castles but also castles influenced by them, such as Kwidzyn and Lidzbark). It was partially dismantled at the end of 18th century, interiors were rebuild during 18th and 19th century, and whole castle underwent restoration in 19th century. As more important castles are regarded Lidzbark Warmiński (Warmian Bishops castle) and Radzyń Chełmiński (despite it is a ruin).
