#057 l Bank of America Plaza l DALLAS l 281m l 72fl
Bank of America Plaza
Dallas, USA HEIGHT: 281m/921 feet FLOORS: 72 floors COMPLETION: 1985 ARCHITECT: JPJ Architects Inc. Upon completion in 1985 this 72-story skyscraper instantly achieved a landmark status as the tallest in Dallas and the most recognizable silhouette downtown. The Bank of America Plaza skyscraper is clad in silver reflective glass. At night the skyscraper's lighting feature is amazing; it is outlined by over two miles of radiant, emerald green argon tubing and is seen for miles from around the city and suburbs. The skyscraper is home to Bank of America which is Texas headquarters and one of the largest banks in the nation. Due to banks changing names or bank mergers the now called Bank of America Plaza skyscraper has the distinction of being renamed more times than any other skyscraper downtown; at least six different names since the project was announced in 1981. Initially in 1981 this was called Main Center and the development was to be done in phases, it was to include a twin 72-story tower and a high-rise hotel with supporting retail space. The remaining phases were not built as a result of the collapse in the real estate market of the late 1980s. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...5/dallas03.jpg http://www.dallassky.com/wpe6.jpg http://www.dallassky.com/wpeC2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/dallas06.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/dallas05.jpg |
8.5/10
I love this one. I might be irrational here, but its corners and setbacks appeal to me..especially that neon lighting. I prefer this to the Wells Fargo Plaza. http://dallas-hotels.visit-dallas.co...line-Night.jpg |
Yeah, The neon...Pretty cool effect. I particularly like this one..
9/10 |
The lights make it look cool at night but I am not partial to boxes I give it a 8.5
|
Not bad, could use some more curving but pretty much stands out from the crowd.
8/10 |
It was supposed to have a 921 foot twin. It's argon (not neon)
is fine, although there's the bunch that love to hate the brashness of it. Night lighting on tall buildings has been very symobolic of the city of Dallas' somewhat isolated prairie location for seventy years - a type of lit beacon, if you will, has always been on the big ones. Lot's of corner offices in those niches - good for tenants. It is 939 feet from the base of the sunken plaza and is the most prominent piece of glass and steel on Dallas. 8.5. i dont like the green outline, it makes it look like its simesorta toy or sumthin
|
I actually really like this building.
9.5/10 |
great tower. . . one of my fav Texas scrapers;) 9/10

Few buildings (or cities) boast such an impressive nighttime profile:
http://www.users.tpg.com.au/mitsima/...s/image036.jpg The building itself - 9/10 for height and glass facade. |
Glass, glass everywhere!!
Nice form and sharp lines. Neon work is suitable and certainly gives it presence. (Dallas is so pretty, pretty @ night.) 8.5 |
it's tall and the setbacks are cool though i'm not crazy about the neon...8/10
|
I've always liked this building. 9/10
|
Awesome by day, phenominal by night. 9/10.
|
I like it, but the top looks kind of stumpy. It could use a better crown. On the other hand, I am a sucker for the argon lighting.

Nice design and very tall. 7.5

8.5/10 - Has good height, and I really like the combination of horizontal and vertical setbacks, which moves it "beyond the box." Plus, the facade really dances with the light. and the night lighting is awesome - yes, Dallas does have a very nice night skyline, BTW.
But it does need a better top, and vertical instead of horizontal lines on the facade would help the height even more. |
Awesome building! Tall, the argon lighting kicks ass too! i give it a 9 outta 10. I'd love to have this one in the Atlanta skyline!
What is that water in some of the pics? Was that added there in photoshop or does Dallas have a little pond next to downtown? |
it`s high but not more 6.5/10
|
-Bump!-
Why? Because it's awesome! And green. |
