Final curtain for Il Casino
The Dominion Post | Saturday, 22 December 2007

A company that owned what was Wellington's best known Italian restaurant has been put into liquidation.

Il Casino Ristorante Ltd owned the former Il Casino restaurant in Tory St. The restaurant was opened by Remiro Bresolin in 1976.

It closed for a refurbishment in 2006. But after Mr Bresolin was diagnosed with lung cancer it never reopened. Mr Bresolin died last March.

In September 2006 the building was sold for $2.25 million to developer Andrew Fawcet, of Globe Holdings, best known for apartment developments. Mr Fawcet is still considering options for the site.

Karori accountant Terry Bastion, who is acting as liquidator, said the Bresolin family decided to have the company liquidated because there was no longer a business or any assets. It was a solvent liquidation, meaning the company had not been in financial difficulty.

Mr Bresolin's son Lorenzo declined to comment.
