Subotica is a beautiful small town with over 100.000 (municipality has 150.000) inhabitants (it is estimated in 2006. that it has almost 120.000). It is situated on the north part of Serbia near the Hungarian border, it is the second largest city in Vojvodina after Novi Sad, and it is one of the five biggest cities in Serbia. It has been experiencing a construction boom for almost two years after a 15 years long depression. I think it deserves to have its own construction thread and I also want to show everyone that Novi Sad and Belgrade aren’t the only cities in Serbia where is a lot of construction going on, and, of course, since I live in Subotica, I opened this thread but I wish that there are more people from my city or from this part of the country to update everyone about the projects in Subotica and other cities. I also want to invite everyone to discus about these projects.

First, for those who have never seen Subotica, a small description of the city. It is popular with its city hall and its 80 m high watchtower…

…squares …

…fountains…

…art nouveau style architecture, the old city core is full of it, for example:

…and of course its beautiful Palić lake:

First I will start with the biggest project in town. That is the hotel-business center “Galleria” worth over 15 million euros in the center of town. It has an underground two storey parking lot, four star hotel, five restaurants and cafés, and 29.000 square meters of business offices.

It is in the final faze of construction so I just can’t wait for the grand opening in few months. On these pictures you can see the façade on one part of the complex, and the construction of glass roof over the atrium.

This is a much smaller but also very luxuries villa-hotel Sent Andrea on the Segedinski ili Palićki put.

Now I will show you our new residential buildings that are gathered mostly on the west part of the city near the old town core. They are replacing the old one storey houses. They are not tall, only 3 to 4+roof storey high because the detail regulation urbanism plan doesn’t allow high buildings. High-rise commie blocks are situated in the suburbs, except Tokyo commie block quarter near the city center with up to 14 floor ugly high-rises. These new buildings look kind of cute and they have the highest residential standards. They all look a like because all of today’s construction companies were once one large corporation.

Here are some photos of construction sites in my neighborhood:

In Engelsova street right across the new Galleria

In Krivajska street

The residential-business complex in Frankopanska and Braće Majera streets

Another comlex in Arsenia Čarnojevića

Two buildings in Vatroslava Lisinskog street

Miloša Obilića

Ivana Zajica

Three buildings in Kumanovska street

A large building comlex in Plitvička and Bore Stankovića

Prva lamela u Celovečkoj, druga će se sledeće godine graditi

Ivo Lola Ribara

Nušićeva in the city core

The horror mamut on the Sinagogue square, preko puta Gimnazije meni je odvratna, nikako se ne uklapa u ostatak trga :puke:

One of my favorate, the large residential-business complex in Braće Radića street, behind it the same company is building another large complex but I can’t find the rendering

Cute building on Braće Radića

Centar Sarić kod Sarićevog spomenika

Somborski put

Beogradski put

Žarka Zrenjanina

Now few photos of reconstruction of the city, radovi u gradu:

Sanacije mnogih fasada u centru grada

Plans for next year are: finishing the construction of the indoor swimming pool complex, rebuilding the National theatre, new aqua park on the Palić coast and the new spa hotel complex.
Proposed: a new shopping mall in center of the city, the biggest in Serbia worth over 50 million euros.

Welcome to the forum :) Subotica is a great town, and of course Novi Sad and Belgrade aren't the only towns in Serbia :) It's great how it's finally doing better.

Great thread, Subotica is very nice city and it surounding is even nicer (gorgeous Palic lake)
You mentioned in the first post rebuilding of the National theatre, does it mean only refubrishing and renewing of facade or complete rebuilding including adding some additional space to this apparently small building and maybe adopting and expanding of scene itself.
