Thodupuzha is the biggest town in the Idukki District and is the commercial center of the district.TDPA is strategically placed as a gateway to the high-range parts of Kerala. It is the fastest growing town in Kerala and the main commercial center in the region.

Thodupuzha is not part of high ranges
; but it is lowland with hilly regions spread across as against wide perceptions.
Thodupuzha economy is driven by agriculture, business and small industries.

In recent years Thodupuzha has shown more interest in promoting tourism.:eek:kay:

Thodupuzha is blessed with natural scenic beauty and is ideal for all nature lovers.:eek:kay:
The famous hydra project the Malankara dam is developing as a famous tourist center.

Now many film shootings are done in this area, and it becoming the most favorable shooting location for the industry.:applause:
Another place is, Thommankuthu is a famous waterfall and tourist place located 18 km from town in Karimannoor Panchayath.

Some roads projects also going to complete within this financial year..

The Manakkadu road towards Parakkadavu ( Parallel road for TDPA _MVPA) , will be complete in this year..

The Nellappara-Madakkathanam Bye Pass also will complete this year..
This road goeas via Purapuzha-Nediayasala-Parakkadavu-Madakkathanam.. an easy way ro connect pala road and mvtpa raoad . Will help to reduce the traffic in TDPA Town.

Another good thing for Thodupuzha is if Vallikkada bridge near Avoli finishes, traffic from Thodupuzha to Kolenchery-Ernakulam side can use it through Avoli-Vallikkada-Peringuzha-Marady-Ooramana-Peruvammuzhy(NH49) road.

Manakkad-Parakkadavu-Pandappilly-Muvattupuzha is the first road which goes parallel to the main route through Vazhakulam. The Nellappara-Purappuzha-Nediyasala-Parakkadavu road joins at Parakkadavu and may reach Kadalikkad. I've slight doubt that there is another Parakkadavu near Nediyasala.

Whenever LDF in power, they used to create blunders in Mullaperiyar issue and there by endanger the lives of people in Idukki, Ernakulan, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts.

1. Now CM Pinarayi Vijayan is saying, the ownership of Mullaperiyar Dam is with TN and the land belongs to TN. Kerala has no right. He was also saying the Dam, which is constructed using Surki, Limestone and Jaggery is very strong, can resist major earthquakes and safe. Hence there is no need for second dam.

2. During 2006-11, then CM VS Achu appointed a Tamil agent Justice KT Thomas as Kerala's representative in Mullaperiyar case. Thomas back stabbed Kerala and favoured TN. He got kickback from TN Govt in the form of land, money, apartments and women.

3. C. Achutha Menon renewed an already expired treaty between erstwhile Travancore and Britsh Madras, there by Tamil Nadu got chance to take the ownership of the dam. TN is using Mullaperiyar water not only for the Drinking and Irrigation purpose (which is reasonable), but also for generating power, generating Mineral Waters, providing Industries, all these are against the treaty.

4. The stupid EMS continue to provide Mullaperiyar Dam water to Madras state despite the fact that Mullaperiyar treaty is expired.

The Power is tilted in favour of North Malabar and South Travancore. They don't assumably, care for central Kerala. Besides, Kerala is not what it was prior to 1956. Present Kerala state is fragile and weak when compared to Tamilnadu which has nationalism and lobbies working hard to ensafe their state.

Kerala's Strong (or Weak) CM

Can’t dismiss TN report on Mullaperiyar: Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he feels there is no immediate need of new dam.

New Delhi: It seems Kerala has changed it stance on construction of a new dam in Mullaperiyar.......

Responding to the queries of media persons here, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he feels there is no immediate need of new dam.

“The Tamil Nadu government’s report on reinforcing the dam structure cannot be dismissed. Also, there exists no need to invoke sentiments in the name of the dam. In this connection, both the states can have a bilateral talk,” he said.

To a question whether veteran leader V S Achuthanandan would be appointed the advisor to the government, Pinarayi replied: “For me, there can be advisors.”.

In development projects, the participation of private parties can be allowed after ensuring that it would not cause the state any harm. The decision on entry of women into Sabarimala temple will be taken after analysing the topic in detail,” he said.

What happened to green field highway from Thodupuzha to Ernakulam? Seems like this was something not going to happen under LDF rule. Thodupuzha's development needs better access to Angamaly-Thrissur side and towards Kochi. For that, bypassing Muvattupuzha is necessary.

Muvattupuzha town is in such a mess without any bypasses and traffic from almost 60kms around the town piling up for connectivity towards Kottayam/Thrissur/Ernakulum/Munnar etc, makes it too congested, often in the mornings and afternoons.

»»Radial/Aerial distance from Thodupuzha to Muvattupuzha or Kothamangalam are almost the same. If a highway through already established roads connecting Thodupuzha with Kothamangalam realises, that'll open up a northern corridor for connectivity to Aluva,CIAL and towards Thrissur. I hope, Kothamangalam-Adivad-Thodupuzha under 25kms distance realises.

»»Thodupuzha-Pandappilly-Pampakkuda-Thiruvankulam-Irumpanam-Kochi may be the possible alignment for the proposed greenfield Thodupuzha-Ernamkulam highway. However, I wonder how it is possible to connect under 50kms? May be, from Padma junction to Thodupuzha under 60kms is possible. This route will bypass Piravom and Kuthattukulam and goes through undeveloped regions in Muvattupuzha and Kunnathunad Taluks which is helpful.

There are no good hospitals in Idukki district and more often we see Ambulances stuck in traffic jam in Muvattupuzha which are going to MOSC Medical College, Kolenchery or towards Rajagiri, Chunangamveli(Aluva) or Lissy Hospital etc. It takes 1 hour or more in daytime to reach Kolenchery Medical College from Thodupuzha side. So many benefits if Such new highways are made bypassing Muvattupuzha.

The reason is too many roads and highways converges in Muvattupuzha and no bypasses exists

Today, the whole highrange, Erattupetta,Pala, MC road, Perumbavur, traffic are relying on Muvattupuzha town to move north/western and south/eastern side. By realising Kothamangalam-Adivad-Thodupuzha highway, We can hope to ease this traffic. Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha and surrounding regions all will benefit from this move. Hope the Politicians from Thodupuzha, who are devoted to the cause of that region works for this.

Gifted with so many bypasses & ring road it is easy to escape from traffic blocks in Thodupuzha town. But now the problem is the scarcity of parking space within the town. A lot of business is lost due to this problem. Last month I went through a street for purchasing something from a particular shop, but I could not find a parking space and so I cancelled the plan and drove away. This problem has to be addressed.

Thodupuzha has narrow existing roads. Remember the town was once just a small junction and a market concentrated around old private bus stand. After joining Idukki district the funds starts pouring and under the efficient administration of P J Joseph sir, who helped the town grow by urban planning done by central government agency back in the 80's which is still getting implemented. Give some time as development is still happening. A flyover is supposed to be built somewhere in the town now.

Yes, A mall will come in Vengalloor, (the Corner side of 4 lane By-Pass) opposite to the MoonLight Regency.

The land is owned by Pulimoottil family and the rumor is that, its the Lulu group who is behind the project..

Upgrading highrange towns to municipalities can be beneficial as more funds can be utilized. This must be implemented because the scenario in Idukki district is, From the formation of Malanad/Idukki district, Thodupuzha is taking lions share of whole Idukki district government allocation. Thodupuzha is not even highrange or has any semblance. Thodupuzha, Pala, Erattupetta all falls under the same eastern most midland culture and demography. The highrange municipalities should start lobbying against deception of lowrange* based politicians who have taken the whole Idukki district at ransom by taking Idukki's funds and developing Thodupuzha Municipality.

lowranges - easternmost midlands in Travancore - Thodupuzha, Pala, Ponkunnam, Vannappuram, Erattupetta, Kanjirappilly etc affluent rubber farmers lives here.

Thodupuzha-Ernakulam Greenfield Expressway through pre-existing roads
Meanwhile, Any update on Thodupuzha-Ernakulam Greenfield express way proposed under last budget? OR Is it scraped?

If you look at Gmaps, it is clearly understandable that, there is no need for touching Muvattupuzha, for connectivity from Thodupuzha to Ernakulam as Thodupuzha clearly has coordinates in Southern and Eastern directions.

If the Manakkad-Pandappilly-Pampakkuda-Thiruvankulam road is straightened, levelled and widened, this can be easily achievable. The 50kms Kochi-Thodupuzha connectivity is not possible as claimed. But, in 55-58kms distance range you can get fast connectivity to Kochi by developing this highway through pre-existing roads.

This highway can immensely help in the growth Koothattukulam, Pampakkuda and other parts of Ernakulam district too including various tourist interests like Arjunan Mala temple, Areekka Waterfalls etc.

This highway, if realized will help Koothattukulam, Pala and central, south Idukki districts and even Pathanamthitta too to use this highway through Koothattukulam-Pampakkuda road. Thus, a very good proposal benefiting not alone Thodupuzha, but most of Idukki, highrange towns in Kottayam district and Pathanamthitta too.

Thodupuzha has evolved as a small city serving Idukki, parts of Ernakulam and North-eastern side of Kottayam district like Pala, Erattupetta etc. But, the town has lesser accessibility owing to lying on the eastern end of the midlands. The only outlet route which is available is Muvattupuzha road. Rest are hilly and not holding great importance in terms of accessibility to major centres in Kerala, including Kochi. This needs three highways from Thodupuzha which can be easily developed through pre-existing roads.

1. In order to avoid Muvattupuzha-Perumbavur congested corridor, develop Thodupuzha-Adivad-Kothamangalam highway under 22kms. This is quite possible and helps in northward connectivity from Thodupuzha to Aluva, Airport and northwards.

2. Current connectivity to Kottayam from Thodupuzha is through PM road via Karinkunnam, Kollappally, Pala route which is really hilly, even after the KSTP road development. Developing by straightening and widening Thodupuzha-Vazhithala-Marika-Koothattukulam road makes it faster to connect to Kottayam, possibly lesser in distance too.
