Two architect firms is involved in the project, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd. The tower contains commercial offices, a shopping centre, a museum and a 6-star hotel. The foundation stone was laid on August 27, 1997, but a fund shortage on the Japanese side caused by Asian financial crisis halted the project, and nothing had since been done to the projected structure. Construction finally resumed on February 13th, 2003. The design of the opening near the top of the tower has changed in mid-October, 2005; from a circular to a rectangular opening. Architect and developer claim that it is cheaper and easier to implement the new design.

This has to be one of my favorite building coverages because it's practically updated on a daily basis! By the looks of it they seem to be finishing about 1 floor per week. I love steel structures construction is always faster than concrete structures. It's amazing how much has been completed with in the last year!

looks like the core jump is about to happen. lev50 is highest "exposed" floor in the core with equivalent of 5 more in core box. Im pretty sire SWFC core jumps consist of 4 at a time, thus the speedy construction. so anyday now it will zoom up 4 levels to lev59m or 275m/900ft high!
